  1. Really sorry to hear this, @brucoe. but I'm pulling for you. Please let us know if there's anything your fellow D1PSh1ts can do.
  2. Red Dead Redemption 2 Grand Theft Auto V Neither of which I've actually played yet. 🤦🏼‍♂️
  3. When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.
  4. It doesn't always come at the same time every day and I'm not always in the lobby at the same time every day.
  5. I check mine at least once per day, yeah. It's in the lobby of my apartment building.
  6. Come visit western Oregon! The area in and around Portland has beautiful nature to explore, is known to be very foodie-friendly, and has all the homeless you can shake your stick at!
  7. I too am rockin' the ProMedia 4.1s from around 2003. I'll bump them up a bit louder tonight in honor of their fallen comrade.
  8. Absolutely. This drove me nuts when I read these. Too much world-building, not enough plot. Get on with it, already!
  9. While I agree it definitely wasn't a great joke (not a particularly creative observation, IMO) I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't start accepting violence as a reasonable reaction to even a bad joke. I know that's not what you're arguing for, of course. It's also absurd to me that he assaulted someone on live television and was allowed to not only remain at the show but to actually win an award and give a tearful speech about being a vessel for peace. What a night.
  10. What's also weird to me is that the joke itself was so innocuous... He went with GI Jane, a strong female character, rather than say, George Costanza or some other negative character. Maybe it's giving him too much credit, but it's Chris Rock... if he were really trying to burn her for her baldness, don't you think he would have done better? I think Smith and some others are confusing the subject with the target of the joke. Frankly, I don't think violence should ever be the answer to a joke. Smith looks like a bloody idiot, IMO, especially when he then makes a speech about being called to be a vessel for peace.
  11. From Reddit: What does Chris Rock have on his face?
  12. Assaulting people on live television. Very cool, very normal.
  13. @Biggie, assuming you aren't just trolling, you're making the classic mistake of extrapolating from a small sample size. Even if every single person on this board had a mild case that just felt like a cold, this is an infinitesimally tiny percentage of total COVID cases (e.g. 1000 users [olol] / 476 million cases worldwide [according to the WHO] = 0.0000021%) and wouldn't prove a damn thing about its severity to the world population at large. I'm legitimately happy for you that your case was mild, but acting like the vaccines are unnecessary because you had a mild case is to completely misunderstand the point when literally millions and millions of people worldwide did not have your experience.
  14. Damn it. Been a fan of Foo Fighters for 20 years; poor Dave, Nate, Chris, and Pat. Glad I got to see them in concert a couple times... they do indeed put on a hell of a show. RIP, Taylor.
  15. Anecdotally, even here around Portland, OR I'm seeing a steadily declining number of masks. In the past, going even 20 minutes outside of Portland was always like entering another world in this regard, but it seems everyone is giving up here too.
  16. You're right, of course. I'm not guaranteed the direct hire sysadmin job, and in the meantime my current employer clearly does not have my best interests at heart.
  17. Since I'm sure everyone is very invested in my saga : Asked for the raise yesterday, was told by the HR guy it was not possible but that the position might be getting made into a direct hire position and that if it goes that way, he would strongly encourage me to apply, because then it's on them if they want to pull me out of the lab. This weekend marks the beginning of my intense job search phase as a plan B.
