  1. My plan was to be playing Armored Core VI on the Steam Deck and Spider-Man on the desktop. However... I have the Spider-Man crashing to desktop problem people are complaining about on the Steam Forums -- started about 7 hours in, and happens every 10 minutes or so. Works perfectly on Steam Deck. I think it is a really solid game -- it really fells like InFamous (with better side mission variety) with Batman combat. It looks great, the traversal is fun. But, it feels really repetitive to me -- not much variety to combat/enemies, Manhattan feels pretty much the same everywhere, and the story is "meh" so far. I was playing Armored Core VI on Steam Deck -- love the movement and controls, but the text was way too hard to read. But, it's great on the PC. Presently at the second boss (Balteus?) in the first Act -- and was really struggling with him (I've probably lost to him 8 or 9 times). Graphics look next gen, but I do find the gameplay really engaging. The short missions would make it a great game on Deck, shame the small text/Hud elements make it mostly unplayable. Kids wanted me to play Subnautica (while they watched) -- it's OK (not really my style of game).
  2. As a kid my father was transferred to Australia, where we lived for 3 years. I lived for 13 years in the US and Brazil as a foreign employee of a multinational.
  3. Recognize the limitations of the Steam Deck -- it is great as a handheld, and can play less demanding stuff at 1080p. But, I wouldn't expect to play current AAA stuff on a TV with decent frame rates.
  4. What record will the Falcons have this season?
  5. Have you got a good financial advisor to ensure the money lasts?
  6. I can see why you may say that. The mission structure is nothing like MGS however. The mechs aren’t particularly like Metal Gears. You’re right, the camera is not good.
  7. So I've played 5-6 more levels (just finished a big set piece). The difficulty after the tutorial is not bad at all. I am guessing the difficulty is all about the bosses, and the rest of the missions aren't particularly hard.
  8. No one outside of NYC calls him that.
  9. It's been more than 25 years since I read it -- so my memory is a bit fuzzy. However, my recollection was that he argued if you acted like you believed in God, and tried in good faith to believe, eventually you would. As I don't believe in God, I don't think the argument holds up largely for the reason of having to pick "A God" and knowing how to pick the right one. But, I still believe it is a fascinating thought exercise. And in the whole history of philosopher's trying to provide a framework for religion, Pascal's Wager was the only one that stuck with me. [Particularly given the fact that I have an economics degree.]
  10. I'll beg to differ. Pascal's wager attacks it from a different angle than most others, in that it doesn't try to prove god actually exists, but attempts to provide a rational argument for why you should have faith -- at least it's mostly internally coherent, which IMHO isn't something I can say for most of the other arguments. The intelligent design theory -- in where complexity means there has to be an intelligent designer falls apart when there are a whole series of scientific theories that show how complexity can develop without one.
  11. Consoles are meant to be inexpensive gaming devices. You can pick any 2 of inexpensive hardware, 4k, and high frame rates for a modern game-- but can't have all 3. That dream is still available for a GPU with dedicated AI cores.
  12. It's not really different than other games. True, most games don't have a difficulty spike in the tutorial. The first mission I completed after the tutorial was dead easy by comparison.
  13. I thought it was lower than that-- but @stepee was suggesting the use case was a handheld -- and IMHO, for most games they don't seem to close to a solid 40 on many titles.
  14. This really feels like a middle-school level analysis of one of St. Thomas Aquinas's arguments -- and IMHO, this guy really doesn't understand most of the science he's trying to reference. It's been decades since I spent any time on the philosophy of the existence of god, but I haven't ever found one that was even remotely satisfying to me -- and I've read arguments from some pretty sophisticated philosophers. If you want to believe, you have to do it based on faith alone -- because there isn't a coherent argument that can stand up to any scientific/philosophical scrutiny. [Similarly, it's also virtually impossible to prove the nonexistence of God (or almost anything else).] If you're looking at reasons to believe in God, I think Pascal's Wager is fascinating.
  15. I hope it is better than I think it will be. The lack of vector data, and the recommendation to have a base 60+fps rate don't give me a lot of hope. However, that said, there may be a subset of games (i.e. with a GUI that is pretty stable) that it works really well in.
  16. I've learned to temper my expectations with AMD features -- it will be interesting to see how well it works across a broad spectrum of games. Not holding my breath on this one.
  17. This is my first attempt at playing a FromSoft game, so I had to learn their design style (and what all of the meters are doing). I never played Sekiro (but always wanted to).
