  1. NCAA investigating No. 2 Michigan amid sign-stealing allegations - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM The NCAA is investigating the Michigan Wolverines' football program amid allegations of sign stealing, the Big Ten Conference announced.
  2. The Bears would be the lowest scoring team then, wouldn't they?
  3. I don't think Fanatec sells as much as Logitech/Thrustmaster. And I don't think they are viewed as highly as Simucube by the enthusiasts.
  4. Says the guy who picked the Raiders to be the lowest scoring team this week.
  5. On PC right now, you can even combine pedals, bases, wheels and shifters all from different manufacturers. People are using SimHub to manage all of that. The Thrustmaster and Logitech ecosystems seem to be mostly locked down. But Fanatec, Moza, Simucube, Simagic, etc. seem to be more open. I'm not an expert - just gone down a rabbit hole these last few weeks. The explosion of different SimRacing brands (and the end of the pandemic) are starting to really lower the price of getting into the hobby too.
  6. The aluminum extrusion rigs are the best for that (more money than this). At the moment, I am half convinced that a $3,500 setup makes sense ($1,500 for the cockpit/seat, $1,500 for the Fanatec setup, $500 for a buttkicker). I'm delaying until my common sense kicks in again.
  7. I have a 1440p Ultrawide. I did the same (usually getting around 70 fps, with some dips in more demanding places) -- I am in the habit of manually cranking every setting when I get into a new game, so I haven't been using auto anywhere. I was getting 120 fps+ with this setup in FH5, so I'm a little disappointed.
  8. You can get something like this for $250. Wheel Stand 2.0 - Next Level Racing NEXTLEVELRACING.COM I've been going down the simracing rabbit hole for the last 2 weeks -- the cost of the setup I would like has gone WAY down in price over the last 2 years, but still not convinced I would get enough use out of it.
  9. A lot of them are former Forza players who remember it fondly. They want something else to play. They don't consider GT in the same league either. That's not their comparison base. I've seen the same thing. You would think they would have dialed in some of the more popular wheels though. I haven't played it (don't have a wheel ATM). IMHO -- You're never going to get AI that everyone likes. The Sim Racing crowd wants AI that plays like real racers. But the casual crowd wouldn't find that fun -- they want AI that they can play against. I think I do as well. I do think they will expand it with regular events and new series as we go -- I'll hold my judgement waiting for the game to mature. I think I am in the same camp as you. I believe they were trying to take the game in a direction that didn't work out as well as they thought, and they had to pivot in late development. I have no proof of this, just a theory. Turn 10 isn't a PC developer -- so that probably explains it. I have a 4080 with an i7-13700k -- this game objectively performs much worse than FH5. I hope they figure out how to optimize it.
  10. Even cheaper -- this ad just got pitched to me: CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle for PC (5 Nm) FANATEC.COM $400.
  11. I think Forza Horizon 5 looks better to my eye (both on PC Ultra settings). Much of the complaints are that the XsX version, in particular, doesn't look as good as some of the trailers. (I've seen some suggest even the PC version on Ultra doesn't look as good.)
  12. I know a fair few Vegetarians (religious reasons mostly) - and they're not annoying. The PETA-loving, you're killing animals crowd that I have had the occasional brush-in with are the annoying ones.
  13. So, I think I have a summary of all the hate, some of it justified, some of it less so: 1) The physics aren't as accurate as iRacing or ACC 2) Online Racing is borked a) Match-making isn't doing a good enough job of separating the "serious" racers from the people who want to dive bomb b) Not enough penalty for dirty racers c) No radar/spotter to give you information on those around you in cockpit mode 3) Wheel feedback/controls are significantly worse than iRacing/ACC/F1 -- it's too optimized for controller 4) AI isn't good enough (strangely enough, I don't ever hear which game they want the AI to be more like) 5) Single Player Campaign isn't good enough 6) CaRPG mechanics detract from the experience 7) Game is poorly optimized for PC 8) Game doesn't look like the footage that was shared in the past/Game looks worse than Forza Horizon 5 9) There are too many game breaking bugs (I haven't had any)
  14. Sim Racing has exploded, and there are tons of options at the very high end -- $6,000 haptic systems, pedals that are $2,000 for each pedal, etc. You can get an entry level DD system from Fanatec (5NM DD base, pedals with a load cell brake, and the McLaren F1 wheel) for $600 -- add $100 to go to 8nm. Its also miles better than any belt/gear driven system.
  15. Much of the press and Raiders influencers were going with the JimmyG is a proven winner narrative. The problem with the Raiders is Ziegler and McDaniels are not capable of running a winning team. I don't know why the Patriots were able to be as successful as they were, but everyone who has come out of that system to work elsewhere has been a disaster.
  16. It's nice to want something. The NFL has rookie contracts largely negotiated in their CBA.
  17. There are lots of ways that developers can signal the importance of sidequests -- i.e. Hogwart's Legacy used different map icons to indicate the different things you could do at each place. The character's you met throughout the school would also give you side quests, which you could decide to do (or not). Most games don't just put an exclamation point above a character's head anymore.
  18. The string of bad teams the Raiders is playing early on may actually have them with a winning record after this week, and may convince some fans they aren't trash (they are). They're probably a 5-6 win team (and its only that high because of the amount of trash-tier opponents on their schedule this year). The one positive note for this season is we no longer have to deal with the "is it time to move on from Derek Carr" articles, speculation and discussion any more. We now know what its like, and so far it is objectively worse without him. One game with more than 20 points -- and that was due to a safety in the last 2 minutes against the Pats.
  19. I've had "streaming TV" from my cable provider (Rogers) for a long time. The video quality is not noticeably different from the heavily compressed HD on regular "digital" cable boxes. TBH, the only reason I have it is that they give me a $65 monthly credit that makes the Internet+TV bundle cheaper than internet alone.
  20. Miami Dolphins $1,000 QUESTIONS 1) Dolphins TD 2) Dolphins QB (This is 99.9% Tua, but you asked for a team) 3) Tyreek Hill 4) Tampa Bay Bucs (Low), KC (High) 5) Green bay, Washington, Cleveland
  21. There isn't one type of side quest -- in modern video games side quests can be anything from a huge side narrative to managing collectibles. Designers feel the need to include some quests to make the world more alive. Others are just there to pad out the game time for players who are motivated by "how long does this game take to beat". There is no straightforward answer, because so many different designers have done it in so many different way. I like having the option of deciding what I will do next. I like having the option of not doing something I don't enjoy. Fundamentally, given that different players have different preferences, I don't really have a problem with games having tons of side quests that don't interest me -- because they could interest someone else.
  22. Organizing things in areas of focus makes sense. Organizing based on the historical publishing entities doesn't. For instance -- having a mobile arm like King makes sense. Having Doom, Gears of War and Call of Duty under different publishing arms -- while deciding Starfield and Doom should share a decision maker.... Is tougher to understand.
  23. Playground is making Forza Horizon, and are just expanding to make Fable. I don't think they have the capacity to make a third franchise.
