  1. To paraphrase a reddit comment on this video, in the context of reality this is a contender for strangest video ever made.
  2. I feel like that trailer revealed waaaay too much.
  3. It's actually been a big steam sale, in addition to the three games I already got I've bought Into the Breach, The Missing, Stardew Valley, Paratropic, and Wanderong
  4. GB reining in their GOTY deliberations is bittersweet, I liked how unwieldy and contentious things got last year but even for me some of it was a little wack. I am going to miss the "20xx's old game of the year" category.
  5. Picked up Donut Country, Red Strings Club, and STORIES UNTOLD. I'm enjoying Donut Country and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, funny, easy-playing game. Also for the three people on the internet who haven't played Life is Strange, it's $4 and you should play it.
  6. You people made it so I don't even want this game.
  7. Just finished Return of the Obra Dinn. Man that game was good but very frustrating.
  8. Games are becoming more political and if reviewers want to be taken seriously they need to consider not just how a game plays but also what it says. At the risk of moving too far from games and reviews and too far into politics, the concept of being "apolitical" is a political stance generally endorsing the status quo. A lot of people claim to be apolitical as though they are above everything, but it is really just an abdication of responsibility to society. Similarly, I am very skeptical of anyone who claims to be objective, unbiased, or 'rational.' They generally just don't want to acknowledge the limitations of their own perspective or the legitimacy of anyone else's perspective. With that said, I would be very skeptical of your youtube reviewer who claims to be unbiased and objective despite the fact that you seem to know what end of the political spectrum he falls on. I also think that relative to other forms of art, video games are new and audiences haven't polarized in the way that they have for music, literature, and film. We often still think of games on the perspective of good to bad, so you get a lot more people playing good games with messages that they don't necessarily agree with than you do in other forms of media. Specifically, you get a lot of well-regarded games tackling issues like mental health and inclusivity. So when a game like Celeste comes out and receives universal praise, there are going to be some people who play it and wish it would have stayed in its own lane and not had that touchy-feely stuff. I thought I was going a little overboard on the Celeste example, but I just rewatched the IGN review and they literally mention how you can skip the story if you don't think it's for you.
  9. Green Lantern was the worst movie I've ever seen and I will never forgive Ryan Reynolds.
  10. There are plenty of games that are better value propositions but 3-4 hours of entertainment for $20 is a fair price. Boy y'all came out of the woodworks to shit on a game for having an audience other than salty old coregamers. 95% of games are made with you as their target audience. One game that doesn't pander to you isn't the end of the world.
  11. Sounds like a mediocre game, a beautiful background, and a story we've heard one too many times. I still might pick it up since I'm a sucker for this kind of game and am inclined to be sympathetic to games with stories beyond "man finds things to shoot in direct proportion to how many bullets he has."
  12. I would like to point out to CBS and the "golden joysticks" that Fortnite battle royale is a 2017 game.
  13. Their refund stuff is as blatantly anti-consumer as you can get. Steam's refund policy is pretty bad, but at least they don't put huge roadblocks in your way. If a company wants to seriously compete with Steam they have to show goodwill towards consumers. They are eventually going to have to compete for sales of products sold on both platforms, and they will never be as convenient as Steam, so making me feel good about using their service over Steam was one of the only ways I would favor them. I guess they have at least one thing going for them which is the young Fortnite audience who may just be getting into gaming and may not already be using Steam.
  14. I like that they failed to address the reasonable assumption that Epic is paying them quite a bit of money for exclusive status, and that this is likely an unsustainable practice for Epic. I would say let the bidding wars begin, but I doubt Valve is going to play ball given their commanding position. Also the bit about a curated store is hilarious, I don't need Epic or Valve to help me find games.
  15. My initial impressions are that the single player mode is a long, padded, and similarly uninteresting mode to other smash bros single players. The online felt functional, but also pretty hollow in the way all Nintendo online games feel. I look forward to playing this game in the same room as other people.
