Did you know you can permakill Skeletons even without holy? If you hit them when they’re on the ground and starting to reform they’ll stay dead.

Ah what the hell! NO I did not! I've been avoiding every single area with skeletons waiting to build up a holy weapon

I'm still going through the Sofia River. Place is massive and you gotta go slow because these ghost warriors ambush you at every turn, and then shoot like 6 foot arrows at you.

Yeah, watch out and flank them. Souls going full Sniper Elite Forest Stealth, it's a fantastic shake-up of the usual combat formula. Sneak a lot.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else but do you guys know you can run while crouching as well? I assumed you'd break your crouch and start sprinting, nope.

If the Bleed Damage stuff is as broken as everyone says, maybe switch to a weapon that isn't so OP?  I realize it's self handicapping, but if I killed some of these bosses in 5-6 hits like you've said, I think a lot of the fun of the game might be lost.

I don't even know if Margit can be bled. I killed him before any bleed effect took place. It was just regular hits inflicting normal damage.

The bleed effect is "broken" in that if you hit enough times, quickly enough (it builds just like it does on your character) you get a big burst of damage that appears to do a certain percentage of the enemy's health, making it extremely effective against enemies with ridiculous large HP pools, or enemies that allow you to get many, many hits in a row.

Of course, if they're immune or resistant to bleed or just don't offer enough openings to land several hits in a row, you might go an entire fight without a single bleed proc.

For example, my weapon hasn't felt OP at all in several hours. But it has a great moveset that's fun to use so I still enjoy it. I've got to have the most jack-of-all-trades build going now, I've got everything but health/FP/arcane at 18-20, and I'm trying to get 30ish faith, all while mainly using a melee weapon. And it doesn't feel like I'm "doing it wrong" at all, like it might in previous games.

I think bleed actually procs to damage done, so if you go 2H or use grease, it’s even more impactful (could be wrong about that though).

That might be the case! Would make sense to balance it so that it's no OP on fast-hitting weapons like daggers, which I vaguely remember being a thing in old Dark Souls games?

I believe they just call them critcal hits here.

Getting a critical hit openings after a jump attack or guard counter is such simple, yet stupidly satisfying stuff. From really excels at these fine-tunings that seems not that big at first. One of my mistakes when first looking at Elden Ring and the more time I spend with it, the more I see just how intelligently they approach every little change to the formula in this game.

Yeah that's fair, I haven't used blood weapons enough to know how it works, just that brief test I tried out.  How much damage do you do per swing? 500+?

Last night I finished the 3rd Big Main Story Boss.  Exploring that next area was fun, I found a ton of secrets, lots of new items I can't use.

I did find the Cat Talisman thing, that says immune to fall damage.  I got a bit too excited and tested it jumping off a cliff.  Definitely still die if you jump from too high, it just stops you from taking damage from normally survivable drops.

Also getting a 3rd Talisman slot feels so good!

Yeah. Sneaking is great but sometimes they just don't materialize until you pass by a spot and they appear behind you. Or some guys you are sneaking up on have another guy materialize further away who's a big sniping asshole.

I got absolutely destroyed like that last night. Died once so I thought hey let's just quickly ride my horse pal back to that location and sprint by everyone. NOPE. Snipers will crush you if you're on horseback even while sprinting.

Found an Icerind Hatchet laying around in liurna. It desperately needs to be upgraded, but its a pretty cool weapon with frost build up. Could be interesting in hotter parts of the game.

Also, does adding blood grease to a weapon that causes blood loss do anything?

You might just not be able to. In past games, if you tried to apply lightning to a lightning weapon for example, your dude just did the 'shaking my head you moron' jig.

Oh wow, those rune arcs are pricey, but wow, do they ever make you nutso strong. The godric rune is nuts.

Helping people in coop gives you rune arcs. Was helping people out yesterday will continue today. I can help any of you PC players. My build is at the point it pwns and I am getting back into the grove of "just dodge".

Edit: Funny incident. Went to help a dude vs a boss I beat and the guy went in just yolo'ed into the boss and died in the first attack chain.

Carian are resistant to holy (their armor and shields have boosts to magic and holy defense.  But yeah, mine so far is Bloody Slash, absolutely destroyed the second major story boss with it.

With holy you can instant kill them.

Oh I just picked up Bloody Slash and have been meaning to give it a go

The Grafted Blade Greatsword is not as cool as i expected. I don't get how people fight with these.

Gotta find what you like. Just about anything can work in the game. You'd have to like try to spread yourself thin across magic and melee in order to really fuck and even then it eventually work once you have enough levels.

The rune from the first boss is great as you mentioned but just remember diminishing returns. Vigor, endurance, strength, and dex all soft cap at 40. You can go above 40 for those stats but you get less of an increase past 40. I think the magic related stats have more relaxed soft caps though. Don't remember sincr I have done magic in any game.

Regarding Holy damage. I didn't really get why my Holy Mace doesn't kill the Skeletons. I could only actually kill them with the Holy Sword (or whatever it was called) Art of War. The Mace itself has Holy damage though, I was surprised to see it doesn't kill Skeletons.

I feel like I should put more effort in to making a character. I go for the vanilla looks currently a female vagabond. I mainly play these games for the combat, the difficulty, the mp, and to well see what broken build I can make that turns the tables on Miyazaki's house of horrors.

I blame that on the Spiffing Brit youtube channel. He tries to break the balance in games and it seems to have rubbed off on me.

I usually spend about...15 minutes or something until I become impatient and stop giving a shit what my character looks like.
