D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit. Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head...

Title for OP probably needs to be changed to Death Island from Dead Island. :p This should also probably be moved to the Movies/Entertainment Board. Either way, this is the fourth CG Resident Evil animated film and that means it's canon story-wise alongside Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta. All three were silly fun if you are an RE fan so I'll likely watch this one too when it comes out.

I always wanted to get into the CGI movies.  I remember playing RE2 way back and seeing the opening cgi cutscenes and thinking “just make a movie of this, it looks so good!”

I definitely recommend doing so, they are fun movies and are pretty much exactly RE in tone if you like RE. If you've played the games, they are pretty easy to watch. Degeneration takes place between RE4 and RE5. Damnation takes place between RE5 and RE6. Vendetta takes places between RE6 and RE7. Death Island takes place after RE6 and Vendetta, but also before RE7.

Degeneration is probably the closest you'll get to that given it takes place soon after RE4.

That's like my favorite one and it's been downhill ever since. I do like the others but I have a mancrush on RE4 Leon.

Fuk I think I just talked myself into playing RE4 HD project this year. Didn't do it last year since I beat I think the Switch RE4 last year.

I was contemplating streaming RE4 PC with the HD mod and then streaming RE4make after. It takes me about 12-15 hours to beat RE4 so I can start it like the weekend before release. Do we still have the D1P twitch channel or should I use my own?

It looks like they’re just going additional story from the remakes. Same art / VAs and everything.

I suppose it’s one way to take advantage of the art they have.

I think they are using similar character models but not using the game engine as you insinuated. I do recall that during the Capcom show they did make a big deal that Jill from the games was in the movie but that's not the Leon from the games.

This is clearly CG. :p

Also, it's supposed to take place between RE6 and RE7

……………….touché

they all looked and sounded very familiar to me, but I guess I didn’t listen closely enough.

Not sure if anyone ended up watching Death Island, but because I just played the RE2/3/4 remakes and RE7 (and its DLC) in the past 3-4 years I decided to rewatch all the canonical Resident Evil CG movies to build up to Death Island.

-Resident Evil: Degeneration - 6/10. This takes place pretty soon after RE4 where Leon S. Kennedy is still a DSO agent. It stars Leon and Claire from the primary cast dealing with an irritating senator and a clearly untrustworthy scientist. The motion-capture performance is pretty rough given this was made in 2008 but there's still a pretty badass parkour scene with Leon (which he usually gets one a movie). It's a relatively small film where not a lot happens but sticks to the RE formula well enough.

-Resident Evil: Damnation - 6.5/10. This one takes place pretty soon after RE5, but instead of starring Chris (which is what you'd imagine) it stars Leon again with Ada Wong popping in from time to time (no one else from the primary cast shows up in this one). Since this is after RE5, Wesker is dead and TriCell is gone. This one is actually a pretty fun one because first the motion capture has improved considerably since this one came out in 2012, 4 years after the first film and it shows. The female president of the fictitious "Eastern Slav Republic" turning into a military close combat badass specialist is incredibly amusing, Leon gets an even better parkour scene than in the last film, and the two Tyrants chasing Leon at the end of the film have super cool designs with a solid mix of action and tension that they can fuck shit up. This wasn't anything special either, follows the RE formula very closely, but it's silly fun. At this point Leon is becoming a pretty bitter DSO agent.

-Resident Evil: Vendetta - 6.5/10. This one takes place soon after the abysmal, action-oriented Resident Evil version of the Avengers, RE6, so the status quo has changed considerably. This one stars Leon (again!) and Chris along with Rebecca Chambers, finally returning to the franchise since RE0 in a non-military role, which is refreshing. Leon is more bitter than ever (understandably, he stars in all of these, he's tired of zombies) while Chris is still punching first, asking questions later and it's fun seeing the two try to out-alpha each other via their distinctly different personas. The motion-capture is the best it's been since this one came out in 2017 and the action scenes emulate an Equilibrium gun-kata or John Wick-type stuff. Nothing that different than the shit Leon and Ada were pulling in RE4 (or Chris in RE5). It all looks really good but unfortunately while the first two thirds are entertaining the last third devolves into a pure action fest which at times is fun to watch but goes on for far too long - the movie thinks the action is more exciting to watch than it is, but it isn't. It's also the least RE-feeling of the films, going for more of a chase the terrorist plot with zombies thrown in.

Next I have Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, a 4-episode ONA which basically acts as a fourth movie, taking place after RE4 and Degeneration but before RE5. Then finally I'll watch Death Island, which takes place after RE6 and Vendetta, but before RE7, and that'll be all five Resident Evil canonical CG movies. Can a mod change the OP title to "Resident Evil: Death Island" and move this thread to the movies board? Thank you! @Commissar SFLUFAN @CitizenVectron

Okay, I have finally finished Infinite Darkness and Death Island, so here's the breakdown no one asked for on these two:

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness - 6/10. While this adds up to about the same length as the three previous CG Resident Evil movies, this is actually a 4-episode miniseries that's on Netflix and it plays more like a 4-episode show than it does a movie, where one episode ends and time passes and the next episode moves on to something else. This one takes place right after RE4 and the first RE CG movie, Degeneration, which is kind of strange since that movie came out in 2008 and this show came out in 2021, so to go back to that particular time period is strange. It stars Claire Redfield and, yep, Leon S. Kennedy again, the two who starred in Degeneration back in 2008, so there's a nice through line having the same characters back again. They weirdly don't really mention Degeneration in this movie but whatever. The story primarily focuses on two soldiers who got screwed over in a coverup by the US government with regard to virus testing during a civil war in a fictional Middle East country called Penamstan. Claire's inclusion in the show feels superfluous, as she's on her own investigating the coverup which doesn't really go anywhere since Leon separately figures out all the same information anyway. There's only a brief Leon parkour scene, which is disappointing, and the action isn't as good (or as ridiculous) as it was in Vendetta so it all feels kind of played out. The motivation of the main villain also doesn't make a lot of sense. This was probably on par with the first movie but otherwise dumb but fun.

Resident Evil: Death Island - 6.5/10. Okay, we finally got here, I didn't know what I was signing up for originally when I wanted to watch all the other movies to get to this one was a bigger project than I expected. Anyway, the movie is well made and fun but is very short - it's the shortest of all the films, clocking in at 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has the best CG so far, since it's the newest film, and takes place after RE6 and the CG film Vendetta (which had Rebecca, Chris and Leon). This one brings them back and brings back Claire and, finally for the first time for the movies, Jill Valentine. Having all 5 main characters who survived the original Resident Evil games that took place in Raccoon City is pretty cool! This one plays sort of like the Avengers of the RE movies with bringing them all together. However, the villain doesn't make much sense, nor do his motivations, though it was nice the henchwoman Maria from the last movie shows back up to wrap up that plotline. The film also is just way too short, there's really no character development for anyone except a small bit with Jill Valentine that the movie completely forgets about as it goes on. There is good action, which is nice, and there is a parkour scene with Chris and Claire, but no Leon parkour scene which is a fail. I enjoyed Death Island and it was definitely fun seeing all five characters at the end unleashing dozens of weapons at the boss zombie but there's nothing new or fresh about most of it. I will say Chris and Claire have never been on screen together (at least, not that I can recall) and then their first scene in this is casually talking over coffee as if Claire hadn't been chasing Chris for years. It'd been so long I briefly forgot they're even siblings. :p Anyways, I think if you're an RE fan you should check these out since you get to see the main characters actually hang out and talk with one another from time to time rather than constantly moving forward dealing with an immediate crisis. But overall, these movies play out like filler stories or side stories to the main games.

@Nokra@Kal-El814 - can someone edit the title of this thread to Death Island from Dead Island and move this thread to the Entertainment board please?

@Greatoneshere I corrected the thread title since that's the proper name but before I move it to the entertainment board, I'd request that @HardAct confirm that it's OK to do so since it's originally his thread.

All good with me, but this thread is about a movie, so presumably it would go to the Entertainment board by default I'd imagine, but no biggie either way.

Yeah you're probably right, and if I don't hear from HardAct before too long I'll just move it and give him the option of moving it back. Sometimes though people do post things on specific boards even if there's a more "appropriate" board for it just because they want that group's input, which IMO is fair. :sun:
