Anyone recently play Day's Gone on the PS5 or PC?

I played this game back at it's initial release on PS4 and I didn't give it as much time as I've would have liked. I remember it being pretty fun with solid game mechanics, story, good gun play, solid characters, and a blast riding the motorcycle. But it had bugs and a few other technical issues that made me drop it.

Now that it has been patched for the PS5 with 60fps, native 4K resolution, all bugs fixed, and better lighting,  I'm very interested in trying this out again. It's been 3 years since it came out.

Anybody recently play this on PS5 or the PC version? This type of game is my favorite genre so I'm very interested in giving it a go now with the improvements.

It impresses me more as a handheld game on deck, it fits that profile well to show off the new level of power available on handhelds. It doesn’t really impress me in any way on the big screen, it looks okay. Even on pc at 120, compared to other stuff, it looks nice enough but not really standout in any way in regards to graphics imo.

Why do you bother asking? You'll be playing this by the end of the day no matter what anyone says. :p

Well I just went to downloaded it because I already own it. I'll play a little later this afternoon but I was looking for anyone who played it on the PS5 or PC.

I just watched a video review of the PS5 version and they said with the improvements it's considered next gen looking. It looks pretty impressive to me visually.

It doesn’t immediately hit you on the head, but the lighting and weather effects still hold up quite well IMO, especially for a last gen open world game.  The Horde too, but with that, it’s more impressive for the hardware limitations of the vanilla PS4.

They seemingly found a way to do Lumen-like lighting in UE4.  Modified the engine, similar to Rocksteady’s efforts with UE3.

I should boot it up on PS5 sometime too, now that I’ve got one.  Reminds me how much it sucks there is no RDR2 next-gen patch.  Gotta play that one on PC I guess.

I played it after they patched it and it's definitely worth checking out. Taking out those hordes is so much fun once you level up Deke. I heard it's seen as something of a dissappointment for a Sony first party.... so much so that while we may not get a sequel, we ARE getting a movie based on it :p

In all seriousness, I think I have one or two more hordes to take out.

Question. I downloaded it and when in the dashboard where you select the game you want to play it reads PS4 next to it?

Did I do something wrong? I've been searching online about this and I'm not getting any answers.

Help! :p

Not sure Mr, I've only played on PS4 pro and then later on PC, not sure how it works on PS5.

I think it's a great looking game on PS5. I never finished it due to its size but my time with it was surprisingly fun. I definitely recommend it. It was kind of like.. Last Of Us 1.5: Open World? Combat is heavy and hard-hitting.

I think it's just a PS4 game with a patch. So itll say a PS4 game. Pretty sure that's why?

You're correct. I am playing and got the patch and it's 60fps and the visuals look great. This is like an arcady TLOU. I'm really liking it so far.

@stepee You know I'm a graphics whore and just got done beating TLOU 1. Well Days Gone on the PS5  looks VERY good. Like I would consider it a next-gen title. I was expecting average visuals but I was way off. The gaming world is beautiful with an impressive forest and streams. I'm big on having good water in games and this has it. I ran into a waterfall and it looked better than any I've seen in a game.

The resolution is fantastic but the 60fps takes it to a new level. Also, this game is terrific. I love the style of missions, gun play/combat, and characters. This is a surprise for me.

Riding the dirt bike is a lot of fun too and thank God they got the controls down for it.

I can see myself playing this for a while and it takes over 30 hours to beat the campaign.

Anyone with a PS5 or a nice PC should definitely play this game.

I completely disagree and I just got done playing one of the best visuals in a game with TLOU 1. Days Gone's visuals, lighting,  and draw distance are incredible. I'm not sure what you're smokin, pal.

I mean it looks like a good looking ps4 game but at 60fps, which is good still, but it doesn’t impress me compared to other stuff, it’s not at that top tier with hfw, cyberpunk pc, dying light 2 pc etc, or say Last of Us 2 on ps5 even. Right now ps4 but in handheld impresses me more than ps4 but 60fps.

I agree now. After seeing some of the characters faces it's PS4 quality. The environment is next-gen level. I think you were the one that said we really haven't seen "next-gen" games except a handful and this environment is really impressive. The day and night cycle is beautiful too.

This game is intense. I'm genuinely frightened by some encounters. I'm running out of ammo too quickly as well. The dirt bike rules.

Edit: I found that police cars have a good amount of ammo in the trunks. I spend my credits at settlements for ammo too.

Also, the hordes in this game absolutely terrify me

I read it takes 36 hours to beat this. I don't know if I have the patience for a game that long these days. I still think it's really underrated but it does start off slow. It takes a few hours before things get interesting.

If I jump back into Saints Row that's even longer and like 40-45 hours to beat the game. :/

I think that it took me even longer than that, I remember thinking that I was near the end when another big section of the map opened up. I was only around the halfway point when that happened.

Actually, I’ve heard that the story only takes around 10 hours to finish. But it’s an open world sandbox game, so you’ll be doing a lot more than just the story missions in it. As you know I’ve been playing it every day for hours since it came out, and I’m only around 50% done with the story because I’ve been mostly messing around in the game world and doing side stuff.

Yes, I read about how days gone looks like it’s going to wrap up and then they open up another gigantic map. The game is way to big for its own good.

Ok, Saints Row seems more manageable but I really do like Days Gone. First world problems I guess.

I couldn't sleep so I got up at 1:30am and played Days Gone for 2 hours. It's now picking up and I had to beat a boss which was a bitch. I think I'm going to stick with this game for a while.

I've been watching reviews online and they say the first half of the game is 6/10 stuff. Second half is much better and more like an 9/10. More of this gigantic map is opening up with a snowy region which is a nice change.

I like this game.

I personally liked the game from start to finish, I thought that it was consistently good throughout. It’s a 9/10 game for me. I’m glad that you’re enjoying it.

Days Gone's game play really clicked with me and I've played through it three times between PS and PC. I really want more of this world!

Replayed it last year, did everything again, which isn't easy in an open world.

It should have done better and reviewed better than it did, imo. I mean I wouldn't expect stellar reviews with the game having less polish than most of Sony's games, but the fun factor, especially with some of the hoard set pieces, was off the charts.

I agree. I can’t believe that it received 6s, it shouldn’t have received anything lower than 7s IMO.

It did seem more like a third party multiplatform game than a Sony first party game, but other than for some performance/technical issues here and there it wasn’t bad. It’s one of my favorite games in recent memory, and it’s a shame that it’s not getting a sequel.

I like this game.

There’s like 5 chapters from what I recall.  The first one is decent, since you’re getting a grip on the world and it feels at its most survival horror with your limited skills.  Second chapter is the real slog, although you do get an interesting arrow type to play with. (Crossbow is op)

The third chapter suddenly the story picks up, almost like it’s a different, much better game than the first two, and that high stays to the end mostly.

The first few hours isn't awful by any means but it was getting a bit boring for me. I think they did a solid job setting things up for you and I pushed through it. Now I'm having a lot of fun since the map opened up with more characters to get the story going again.

The game at it's current state is extremely polished now with all the updates and patches. When it initially released most reviews were positive about the core game but there were too many performance/technical issues to warrant higher scores. I think I'm hitting the stage in this game where it's taking off. Plus, they nailed the dirt bike perfectly which was extremely important as you are on that thing 75% of the time.

It literally feels like TLOU in an open world from a gameplay stand point. Obviously the voice acting and story can't compete with TLOU. Overall, it's a game worth playing if you invest some time in it.

It’s a fine looking game still! i just wouldn’t put it in the top 20 or anything like that.

A PC review that backs up my claims about the graphics in this game:

"Design-wise, the world of Days Gone is absolutely beautiful. Taking place in the town of Farewell, Oregon, there’s a wide variety of environments ranging from lush forest to windswept mountain peaks.  It’s one of the most gorgeous and detailed open worlds I’ve ever seen, and this is only further enhanced by some of the best weather on the market. Rainfall will turn forest trails into a slick, muddy mess and heavy snow can completely transform previously-sunny areas into picturesque winter wonderlands. They’re still filled with corpses, rapists and murderers, but scenic all the same. Even the skybox at night is goddamn magnificent, offering a glowing celestial mass of constellations and stars."

You should fire it up on your PC and check it out to confirm what you think about the visuals.

I guess I'm still in the early stages of this game. It's getting a tedious now with quests that are nearly identical every time.

I'm not liking Deacon at all which is a big deal. He's just a miserable smart ass and he has no personality.

This game is good but not great. It's like a 7.5/10. I'm losing interest and getting bored doing the same shit over and over again. I understand it picks up at around 20 hours but that is ridiculous to me. I'm taking a break from it for now. I gave it like 10 hours and thought it would get better as some positive reviews say it does if you give it time. It started out cool as hell and then got way too repetitive. There's a very good game at the core, but the developers really fucked up the pacing in this game and were way to ambitious.

I'm glad I gave it 10 hours and I enjoyed myself to a certain point.

I feel like this was a game that received a lukewarm reception when it came out thanks to the issues you're talking about. People mentioning the bad dialogue like, "I'm gonna ride you like my motorcycle" or whatever he says. I really never heard anyone saying anything good about the game until years later. Perhaps that's partially "not that bad syndrome" which pumped up it's perceived value and then you came along and didn't feel like it lived up to it's new status. :p

Pretty much. It has a lot of shit in the game you would want in a zombie apocalypse setting. But to actually buy the really good guns to take on a horde for instance, you have to gain trust from one of the settlements you're helping out. Problem is,  it litteraly takes hours upon hours to go from level 1 guns to say level 2 and 3. I'm talking 20+ hours of quest's to gain trust levels!

So then you get a nice story setup in the beginning and then litteraly the story stays put until like hour 20 or so. I mean if I was retired and had nothing to do all day, I'd  MAYBE beat this game before I passed.
