Only the mob takes the fifth.

Recommended Posts

It seems like it’d be really easy to get Trump to implicate himself, just tell him something like “I was talking to Tiffany Amber Thiessen last night and she said you were too dumb to do crimes. That’s not true is it?” And watch that annelidic rectum of a mouth of his start flapping.

I know “Trump pleads the Fifth” is an easier headline to print, but I would prefer something more like:

”Former president Trump, subject of multiple criminal investigations, pleads the Fifth in NY tax fraud case.”

I think we often lose scope and scale when talking about Trump, but that ship sailed long ago.

Everyone should take the Fifth when questioned by authorities.

Which is why it's probably a good idea to not run around spouting malarky about how only the mob does it.

I had thought that the NY case was (and should be) a criminal one, but apparently there is a criminal case in addition to this civil one, though the Post mentions that the criminal investigation may be stalled.

I have to admit that I find it rather confusing what is and isn't a criminal case in a situation like this. I think of civil cases primarily being between two private parties, so when the government is going after you for tax fraud, it's odd to me that it can be a civil case.

Also, Trump just has so many crimes it's hard to keep track of which investigations are which.

This civil case is still related to his taxes and property valuation, right? So it's not like some dude suing him over not getting paid for work, but it's banks and other financial institutions with their own high-paid lawyers who where nice suits?

It's the state suing him directly over taxes owed. Another suit would demand a new deposition.

The criminal case is effectively DOA because the Manhattan DA has declined to seek a grand jury indictment (at this time):
