I know there are a few Lynch fans here and I absolutely love this new Edward Hopper-ish artwork particularly.

Despite my love of of Twin Peaks, I’ve never actually watched any of Lynch’s films besides ‘Fire Walk With Me’ (and I’m honestly disgusted it got the original response that it did, because it is a masterpiece- it’s impossible to imagine a film doing a better job at capturing the horror of personal trauma). I should start checking his other stuff out.

I think if that aspect sold you on Fire Walk With Me specifically, Mulholland Drive will be right up your alley. I personally think it has the added impact of feeling like his most immediately human movie if that makes sense.

The film is up to interpretation but for me it's the magnum opus of capturing the exploitative, destructive and surreal reality of Hollywood and America's obsession with celebrity and their perfect lives. If Twin Peaks lays bare the vile shit below the surface of smiling small towns, Mulholland is the horror of Hollywood.

If you end up watching it, tag me if you post impressions.

Edit: Also if you love Fire and Twin Peaks in general I have a hard time thinking you wouldn't love Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive especially.

Awesome.  I have the current Criterion blu-ray so I'm not sure I need to jump on this, but I'm all for continuing to preserve Lynch's astonishing body of work.

I still maintain that Mulholland Drive is the most unnerved that I've ever been watching a movie.  A friend of mine let me borrow his copy in high school, and watching alone in my basement one night, I was so drawn in and then startled that I had to turn it off.  I eventually finished it, and I still think it's Lynch's crowning achievement.

Lars von Trier's Antichrist does that for me. Something about its tone and atmosphere I find incredibly unsettling and I've seen the movie three times lol.

I’ll watch this again at some point. I might have still been in high school when I watched it the first time, and I didn’t dig it at all. But I’ve bounced off of other Lynch stuff in the meantime (I’ve tried getting into Twin Peaks three different times for example), so maybe it’s just not for me.
