Apparently the US has also supplied them with 40,000 rounds for these howitzers as well, enough to more than exceed the number of times they should fire before refit.

The Ukrainians need those 155mm munitions in a hurry as they're desperately running short of their Soviet-era 152mm stockpile.

Thread on what to expect from Russia. Basically, that they can only sustain an aggressive offense for a few weeks at most (if that), and if Ukraine can hold then the situation in the east may turn into something similar to what happened in the north (Russian troops being demoralized, without proper reinforcements/supplies, and vulnerable to Ukraine counter-attacks):

Russian forces made minor advances in the ongoing offensive in eastern Ukraine on April 19, seizing several small towns and advancing into the key frontline towns of Rubizhne and Popasna. Russian forces continued major assaults with heavy air and artillery support but are continuing to build the logistics and command-and-control capabilities necessary for a larger offensive. Russian forces have not achieved any major breakthroughs, nor have they demonstrated any new capability to conduct multiple successful, simultaneous advances. Russian forces additionally made grinding progress against remaining Ukrainian defenders in Mariupol’s Azovstal Steel Works and announced plans for a May 9 Victory Day parade in the city – indicating Russian forces will declare victory in Mariupol by that date at the latest.

Key Takeaways

  • Russia’s offensive in eastern Ukraine secured minor gains in the last 24 hours, taking parts of the key frontline towns of Rubizhne and Popasna.
  • Ukrainian forces reported the presence of small numbers of Syrian or Libyan mercenaries fighting in Popasna (eastern Ukraine), likely individual recruits fighting under the umbrella of the Wagner Group rather than larger units.
  • Russian forces made incremental advances in Mariupol and continued to set conditions to declare victory in the city by –at the latest – May 9.
  • Russian forces made minor advances around Izyum but have not secured any major breakthroughs.

Russian forces may be preparing to conscript Ukrainian citizens amid continuing recruitment challenges. The Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported on April 20 that Russian occupation forces are planning to hold pseudo-referendums in occupied Zaporizhia and Kherson Oblasts to declare a forced mobilization and “throw ‘mobilized’ Ukrainians to the hottest parts of the front.”[1] If confirmed, this effort is highly unlikely to generate meaningful combat power and will provoke an uptick in protests and partisan actions against Russian forces in these regions. The GUR additionally reported that Russia’s FSB is conducting a purge of the political leadership of the LNR in retaliation for its failure to achieve military objectives since February 24.[2]

This is a widespread problem in this country. The citizens in the county to the North of me are fighting tooth and nail over a much needed apartment complex because it will "urbanize" their rural community. While in the same breathe argue that $1400/month that people are currently charging for a room in their homes is outrageous. Or that the number of people living at the RV parks in travel trailers is a shame to the county.

Apparently one of Russia's largest chemical plants (in Ivanovo Oblast) is on fire. There's been a few...accidents happening recently at large facilities that have been forced to shut down due to sanctions. Speculation is that the owners have been told that if they lay anyone off they will face treason and other charges, so their only option is to literally destroy their facilities in order to have an excuse as to why they are not paying their workers.

These Phoenix drone systems haven't been seen by the public, and were apparently literally just finished for Ukraine:

INSIDEDEFENSE.COM

President Biden and the Pentagon have announced the latest $800 million aid package to Ukraine will include dozens of howitzers and more than 120 new unmanned aerial systems rapidly developed by the Air Force specifically for the Ukrainian military to defend itself against the ongoing Russian invasion.

Kirby, in a discussion with reporters today, said the Phoenix Ghost, manufactured by Solana Beach, CA-based Aevex Aerospace, was rapidly developed by the Air Force to have capabilities similar to the Switchblade UAS, which acts as a loitering munition.

Kirby declined to provide additional details about the system, but said the Phoenix Ghost was designed to “deliver a punch.”

“It was developed in direct response to Ukrainian requirements,” he said. “I’m not at liberty right now to talk about the production of this thing.”

Wow, a governing caucus is unhappy with its leader so they're gonna remove him. Imagine that.
