The Cyberpunk Gameplay Discussion Thread

If I care enough about the game, ill eventually see everything on subsequent playthroughs. That's how I handled The Witcher 3 and the various Bioware games. I just didn't care enough about that particular quest to want to go further. Im ready to wrap this game up and wait for patches before I try to play again to be honest.

The mission “chippin in” popped up for me last night just as i was going to start the end game (peaked at a guide to see how far I was in and the next main mission is the point of no return). And as I understand it- you get Johnny’s gun, jacket and porche if you play it right. So I think I’ll definitely take a stab at it. Then finish the main story.

I did that mission chain... definitely worth doing if you want to get those items. Not too tough either. I'm in the same boat as you though... I'm kinda ready to move on from the game for now. Maybe it will get better for me when I replay it in couple of weeks but ultmately this game did NOT live up to the hype or my expectations.

While I've been really enjoying it, I think it'll be hard to say this game didn't disappoint from most aspects.  It just had too much hype to live up to.

I don't think it'll come anywhere close to Witcher 3 in regards to how it's remembered.  Maybe after some updates and DLC to clean up some things.

One thing that I think does come into play a bit, is Witcher 3 was the culmination of the series coming together, and had a lot of characters we really cared about that we knew from the previous games.  I also feel it did a much better job of pacing how we interacted with different characters.

Spoiler

I ran through Panam's story, Judy's story, and a few other of the Side Gigs stories, and now I get a sense they might be done completely.  I have been knocking out a ton of side content over the main story, so that maybe partially my fault, but in Witcher 3 I felt the pacing of everything just felt more evenly presented in terms of interactions with all the characters.

I still think it's a very solid and fun game, but for 7 years of hype, I do think it'll largely be forgettable once I wrap it all up.  Witcher 3 left a bit more of a lasting impression when I finished it.

I wound up doing this whole chain tonight. This was by far my favorite side quest. It really fleshed out Johnny as more real and not just some cliche rocker edgelord.

I also really loved the back and forth control between V and Johnny and it really makes me wish that was more of a theme throughout the whole story. Who knows...maybe the DLC will explore more of Johnny’s past.

What’s with the field of greenhouses at the southern end of the map? There is a quest marker and a food vendor right in the middle - but I’m stopped by an invisible wall. I’m assuming this is maybe the end game area?

either way in a 5 minute romp through there I found 2 pieces of pretty powerful legendary gear.

I don’t think that it did for anyone, it’s just not the game that we were all expecting it to be based on how CD Projekt Red presented it over the years. I’m still enjoying it, but it’s far from the game that I was envisioning it being.

It;s not just that for me though... coming off of The Witcher this game feels like a step BACKWARDS for them as a dev. Like it feels like to me, that they just had to polish what they had and put the game out. Game just feels like a mess of unrealized ideas and potential.

It lacks the same overall quality and polish of The Witcher III, and seems like it was made by a different developer IMO. Like I said before, it seems like something that Techland would have made. It has a Eurojank feel to it that The Witcher III doesn’t have, and a big part of that is due to the amount of bugs, glitches and jank that it has. But l also agree with you that it somewhat feels like a mess of unrealized ideas and potential. It seems like something that went through several different design changes during the course of its development.

It’s a rather ambitious game with an exciting scripted main storyline, and a ton of optional side content a lot of which is the quality of main mission content found in other similar games. So I can see how a game of this magnitude of storytelling, character interaction and sheer amount of gameplay content put into a large varied open world could be difficult to polish to a shiny sheen, but it still should be in a better state than it is considering the developer behind it and the amount of time that they worked on it.

I dunno, there have been some stellar parts of the game that will certainly remain with me, particularly certain lines and story content. Is it The Witcher games? No, but it's so different it was never going to be. I don't forgive the bugs and jank, but this is still a game like few others. I definitely have issues with the game (the pace of story content, the disconnect at times between characters and plotlines, etc.) but this is still a pretty crazy game.

Yeah, this definitely feels like a CDPR game to me. I expected it to be a small step down in terms of quality from the Witcher 3 given that they spent a decade iterating on how to make a great Witcher game and only some of what they achieved with TW3 would transfer to a new IP and gameplay method. Overall, Cyberpunk basically met my expectations. In comparison to TW3, I liked the gameplay and main story more but didn't like the world or characters as much. I put 106 hours into TW3, including expansions, and was sad when it ended. I have 56 hours in Cyberpunk and felt like that was about the right amount of time.

Completed the main story today. Before I get into my ending and a question I have - I’ve got a few other questions.

on certain guns and armor pieces (particularly legendary or iconic) there is a round yellow icon with an exclamation point on them. looks like a quest marker. I also noticed this on the ping quickhack. What is it supposed to signify?

Is the reward for completing the game the same for everyone or is it ending based? I have no idea what it is. I went to a ripperdoc and there was a legendary cyberware that I cant use bc it requires 18 body snd im not even close. So I’m not sure if that’s it or I picked that up somewhere.

I finished the game around lvl 28 /45 cred and around 48hrs. I was pretty OP at the end. High crit. And crit damage. Smart pistol with the Wild West perk. Wreck everyone without even leaving cover (I picked up a legendary smart pistol with like 480dps during the last mission somewhere)

as for my ending

Spoiler

I chose to let Johnny and Rogue go. It made the most sense to me thematically. It didn’t make sense to me to  pull Panam into this. She didn’t seem to have the skillset for a job like this.

When rogue died I picked up her gun and used it to shoot smasher in the head. Super satisfying

i eventually had Johnny give V back his body where he wakes up as a legend.

what I didn’t understand though was the very end - going into space and floating towards the crystal palace casino and then fade to black. Is that supposed to signify that this would be his last mission  and the fact people are calling me during the credits he succeeded? What did he do? Take down the casino thus putting the final nail in the coffin of Arasaka?

Or - he knows he’s going to die - and this is a suicide mission? Does he achieve the goal? And the People calling him during the credits not know he died?

so confused

with that - I think I still stand  with my original review score of 7.5-8/10. The story and the later side quests really kept the game from being a complete bust. Once I looked past the awful ai/NPC and shit I bitched about earlier in this thread - I really did wind up enjoying it. It’s definitely no Witcher 3 and overall didn’t really meet my expectations but it was fun romp. I look forward to the DLC and next- gen patch.

I had the same ending, and I honestly hated it.

Spoiler

If it were my choice as V, I would've given Johnny the body since he could live a full life with it. But as the decision was presented to me while I was Johnny, I didn't like the idea of him taking the body for himself.

I also was dating Judy at the time and she pulled the whole "breaking up with a terminal cancer patient" thing, which was a very not cool move.

I think the space thing at the end was V's last attempt at finding a cure for the AI cancer, and it is left ambiguous as to whether this is ultimately successful.

Even though it is pretty sad the Johnny gets the body ending is a lot more emotionally satisfying, I wish I had gone with it.

Despite it not quite being the game that I was expecting it to be and it failing to meet my expectations, I’m still having a great time with it. I like its story, characters, world, gameplay, music, etc., and it’s packed with stuff to do. There’s a lot of exciting things that happen in it, and it’s hard for me to put down once I start playing. But unfortunately its bugs, glitches and jank hurt the overall experience, and are what I have a problem with the most.

While I think that The Witcher III is a higher quality game overall, I’m enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 more since I like the futuristic sci-fi cyberpunk theme and gameplay/combat more. I’m 40 hours into it now, and I’m not ready for it to be over anytime soon. I’m doing just about everything that there is to do in it, so I expect it to take me a long time to complete.

One of the things I really appreciated about the Witcher 3 that isn't present as much in Cyberpunk was the environmental progression. Moving from Velen to Novigrad to Skellige made the world feel much more substantial than the relatively homogeneous Night City.

I agree, but The Witcher III is more of an adventure RPG that has you embark on an epic journey across the land similar to The Elder Scrolls games while Cyberpunk 2077 is more of a mission driven action shooter that primarily takes place in one big open city similar to games like Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs.

Naww, the space thing was just V trying to pull off the biggest job of all time, something nobody was ever able to do. At some point in the game, someone mentions it being impenetrable. It's nothing to do with cures, V knows she's dying, and she wants to go out big.

As for Judy, she made it clear beforehand she wanted to leave NC, and she knows V won't, so she did what she had to.

It’s interesting we had 3 different takeaways from that ending. And they are all plausible.

Spoiler

I came to the conclusion that he was going to take down the crystal palace bc while in the AV on the way to the afterlife, V is having a conversation w Delamaine who mentions that Arasaka is basically crippled financially and their credibility destroyed due to soulkiller basically being exposed for what it is. So I saw this trip to the crystal palace as like a  homage to Johnny since that’s all he ever wanted to do. V would honor him for being a good dude in the end and giving him back his body by achieving this final thing for him..destroying arasaka once and for all.

then @Moa makes sense because when V is having a conversation with Blue Eyes - Blue Eyes says something to the effect of “you’d do anything to survive, even if it’s just a few more breaths”. And then again in the spaceship, he says something about the data and helping V.  So I can totally see this being him going on a mission to try find a cure

and then @BloodyHell idea makes sense bc all V and Jackie wanted to do was become NC legends and this would certainly be the craziest thing anyone has ever done.

Either way - it looks like that location is totally being setup for DLC. And reading through some of the other endings - they could make them work story wise as well.

I think I probably just didn't follow the ending since I didn't love where I ended up.

More ending beef.

Spoiler

It seems like the final mission choices were made to align with the lifepaths, which I don't think was a great decision considering how little impact the paths had on the game prior to the end and how much the main story felt weighted towards the Johnny and Rogue path. I had expected the ending to be more about V and Johnny because I prioritized that relationship by going with Johnny for the final mission, but instead I got some streetkid ending where it turns out V just wanted a penthouse the whole time.

Yo, so I’m doing the second shooting competition and trying to get first place and cyberpunk can fucking go fucking fuck itself in its fucking fuckhole...fuck

You can shoot each target multiple times. You also only need like 44 to win.

Now what I came here to post. BEST MUSIC IN THE GAME
