  1. Rebels is fantastic. Easily the 2nd best Star Wars show behind Andor. I'm very excited for Ahsoka.
  2. It probably isn't a coincidence that the F-16 news drops the same time as this news: U.S. intelligence says Ukraine will fail to meet offensive’s key goal Ukraine offensive will fail to reach Melitopol, U.S. intelligence says - The Washington Post WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COM Thwarted by minefields, Ukrainian forces won’t manage to reach the city of Melitopol, a vital Russian transit hub, according to a U.S. intelligence assessment.
  3. Opening uno threads is like walking up to someone in mid-conversation with a wall.
  4. You're right that him leaving and speaking out about the problems in the SBC are good. I'm not disputing that. And he serves as a great example for speaking out against Trump and supporting other people in the ability to speak out themselves. But I don't think it's damned if you do/don't. I think Moore hasn't run far enough. He's now affiliated with a non-denominational church that is nominally evangelical. The church doesn't affirm (vocally and explicitly accept) LGBTQ membership. They are merely silent on it. There's not one woman on the religious staff of the church. Modern evangelicalism doesn't have problems that need to be fixed. Modern evangelicalism is at its core rotten and cannot be fixed.
  5. The pastor in question is Russel Moore, an ex-Southern Baptist who had been the head of an entity within the Southern Baptist Convention before being forced out for criticizing Trump. He's definitely a moderate in the Baptist tradition, but he was still Southern Baptist and upheld most of the standard tenets of its belief system that created this monster. He can be surprised and shocked and saddened and everything else. But he helped make the leopards who ate his face.
  6. I will be spinning my The Band albums in commemoration. I've really started gaining a huge appreciation for them. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is a song that to me, a Tennessean, is reprehensible in what it lauds. But the way Levon sang it and the music just make it so so good. I wish it didn't mean what it did, but dammit if I don't sing it at the top of my lungs.
  7. The bomb didn't save any lives. It took lives. Ending the war saved lives, and that was a decision the Japanese made. Why they made it is not so clear cut.
  8. I'm no defender of the decision to drop the Bomb, but not even the Japanese War Council knew they would unconditionally surrender at the time of Potsdam. Likewise, fucking MacArthur doesn't deserve any credit for finding Hiroshima and Nagasaki morally reprehensible when 6 years later he is begging to blanket North Korea with the same.
  9. Wow, Megyn Kelly is looking rough. Who put her on a diet? She looks like a skeleton.
  10. Thanks for the rec. I need more novels, so this one will go on the list.
  11. It hasn't even been 88 days. It's been 63. The man has outed himself as a Nazi. Why the Dems are allowing him to run on their ticket is very perplexing.
  12. Seymour Hersh made an oopsie-doo and published in English a phrase which is not a common idiom in English... but IS in Russian! Also, the dig his "source" makes about Nigeria is likewise a relatively common line in Russian politics. Nigeria being the key example of political corruption. We don't really say that here in the US! I think Hersh's "source" is some Russian propagandist. Whether the source is doing this on his own, part of a subcontracted group, or employed by the Kremlin itself does not matter. The point is Hersh is a moron and is printing this because he believes it.
  13. From someone very smart I follow: "We too easily dismiss terrestrial explanations, ranging from sensor error to human fallibility, and I would start there 1000 times out of 1000 before looking beyond the stars for answers."
  14. I would rather have congress had another Hillary Clinton hearing. This is the dumbest waste of public money I have ever seen.
  15. Right. But also. I'm not saying it's an empty threat entirely, but as of today, they haven't done shit to these ships.
  16. The trouble with most of these fires is that they cannot be fought because there are no roads near what is burning.
