General Gaming What are you playing today?
Paperclyp replied to CastlevaniaNut18's topic in The Spawn Point
I agree. And I guess because it's empty it feels small to me too. It's a series of vignettes rather than a world. But I still love the game. It just didn't hold up as well as I had remembered it. -

miss my Steiner icon I replayed IX when it came out on switch. The time speed up features make it so much more playable today. I don’t remember the translation being so bad, but I’m sure it is. It really does have some good characters though, and it makes me understand some people’s quibbles with like the materia system allowing any character to be any class. There is something to knowing Vivi will be your mage throughout and so on. One thing that struck me is that IX kind of lacks great side content other than the card game. The world felt small to me. -
Nintendo Monster Hunter Rise - Sunbreak Expansion Coming June 30, 2022

Can anyone give me a quick synopsis? Is this a legit MH game or more of a side game? -
Sony Anybody here own Control Ultimate Edition on PS5?
Paperclyp replied to DarkStar189's topic in The Spawn Point
I’m tempted to buy this at $20 as well. Let us know if you figure it out! What a mess Sony has made with that stuff. -

Nintendo Nintendo should just make a powerful console.

Are you like from a time machine from 2005? I swear you posted another thread that just was like you missed 15 years of discourse lol. -
Nintendo Nintendo should just make a powerful console.
Paperclyp replied to CastletonSnob's topic in The Spawn Point
God I have so many things I agree and disagree with in this thread for vastly different reasons especially with the OP. Do I wish Nintendo made more powerful hardware? Yes? I mean it would be nice, and I’m willing to pay more for like better hardware that will run games better... but what is this 3rd party discussion? You’re not going to play third party games on your Nintendo console even if they’re there. Come on now. Nobody does that, and if you do do that with some of the games that are on there, what’s wrong with you and why do you hate yourself? Nintendo is a very anti consumer company, I totally agree with many people on that, it’s hard to argue they’re not. I also don’t believe the people making some of the most important decisions at Nintendo understand what does and does not make their hardware successful - they often learn the wrong lessons from their success. At the same time I think calling them a shit company is hyperbolic. They still make fantastic software and overall I think the switch is an excellent console even though I have my quibbles with it. Also I think anyone who thinks the PS2 sold so well because it was a DVD player probably wasn’t around in those days lol -
General Gaming What games do you hope to get around to in 2021?
Paperclyp replied to crispy4000's topic in The Spawn Point
I recently revised my physical list of games I’d like to beat, paired it down quite a bit. Current priorities are FF7 Remake, Spider-Man and Miles Morales, No Man’s Sky (I’ve played it quite a bit but never really dug in), and then I’m playing around with getting the platinum in MK11 (just the base game). I can’t think of what else is on there. Edit: oh duh hades -
Sony Demon’s Souls crashing, won’t eject disc.
Paperclyp replied to nublood's topic in The Spawn Point
Demon’s Souls looks a lot better, but Dark Souls is a more refined version of what Demon’s set out to make. Demon’s Souls is very exploitable and few of the bosses offer a real challenge once you understand the hook. Dark Souls is just really well designed all around from the environment that slowly links together to the more challenging bosses, better balance between builds, and IMO game systems that work better. That said, Demon’s still holds a special place for me and some of the things you could consider “less refined” are also just kind of charming in their own way. If you’ve never played one and are looking to play something on your PS5, I think Demons looks and sounds so good I would edge people toward that over remastered, which IIRC isn’t an overly impressive upgrade over the original. -

Man, once again you are way too kind. Despite my misgivings about Cyberpunk, I really am interested in it and excited to play it. Unfortunately I am still rocking a AMD Radeon (TM) R9 390 Series, and I do not trust the game to run too well on my PC. That said, I'd actually take a pre-order of Hitman 3 if that's a viable option? I'd love something new to play on my PS5 when it comes out in a few weeks... -
Sony Demon’s Souls crashing, won’t eject disc.
Paperclyp replied to nublood's topic in The Spawn Point
My disc drive spins up periodically regardless of what game I have in there. It’s always very apparent when it is happening because it sounds like it is attempting to spin it faster than any disc has ever been spun. -

Editing my post because I assume AC and sack boy must be physical discs? That is odd. If it were happening to me I would return the PS5 ASAP and get a fresh one. -
General Gaming What games did you spend a surprising amount of time on?
Paperclyp replied to Bloodporne's topic in The Spawn Point
Someone mentioned Battlefield 4 - oddly I loved that game and probably played it more than any other shooter last gen (other than PUBG I guess, almost seems like different gens to me). Other than that games I know are high are Diablo 3, Smash Melee in college, I'm perpetually playing a Souls game, PUBG, I think Halo Reach is probably up there... hmmm. Not sure what else. Def Skyrim. Beat GTA 5 3 times I think. Black Ops 2 is probably up there. I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious ones. -
I mean, the crux of the reporting was that the developer was forcing mandatory overtime after they promised not to to fix the bugs in the final stretch of game development. Somehow the message many people took from that is that Schrier was just trying to sensationalize something for clicks? Instead of maybe the game wasn’t coming together as planned and the people at the bottom were suffering for it.

Are people still saying Jason’s reporting is inaccurate and he was only talking to disgruntled former employees? *largest shrug

That’s what’s unbelievable to me. It almost feels like they are purposefully tanking the entire company.

Also demon's souls ran pretty well overall for me, but had 2-3 instances of the choppy glitch I was talking about. A console restart always fixed it. A consistent issue I have is putting the console into rest mode, and then when I come back the next night it is off and acts like I've shut the thing off wrong, has to repair the drive (which thankfully takes zero time compared to the PS4). I would be curious if people put theirs into rest mode and it legit never happens to them.

The defective units are the ones the graphical issues the artifacting and whatnot that is representative of a GPU problem. The crashing issues are widespread, but apparently not universal. If it's defective hardware causing the issue, they're in for a class act lawsuit and a whole world of hurt given how rampant it seems to be.
