General Gaming What are you playing today?
Paperclyp replied to CastlevaniaNut18's topic in The Spawn Point
I bought Divinity Original Sin 2 on sale. I've already put like 17 hours into it, but I am crawling at like a snail's pace. A few of the battles took me a lot of tries to figure out some better techniques, and I'll admit I'm spamming the teleport gloves. However, I think I am getting better. The game has a really satisfying loop of battle, get a few new pieces of gear, story, battle going on for me right now. I also bought Grim Dawn on sale but have not played it yet. I don't know how that game was completely off my radar until recently. -
Certainly no crunch going on here and Jason Shrier doesn’t know what he’s talking about etc etc

General Gaming How do Fallout 3/New Vegas hold up?
Paperclyp replied to ShreddieMercury's topic in The Spawn Point
I can't speak for 3 because I haven't played it in like a decade, but Vegas is still pretty fun. I find it to be pretty glitchy even on PC though. -
General Gaming Giant Bomb and Gamespot sold to Red Ventures
Paperclyp replied to Brian's topic in The Spawn Point
Sometimes I appreciate what Abby brings to the table, but I often find myself frustrated with her thought process. Would be funny if they brought Dan back. Seems like he just plays games on Twitch anyway. -
General Gaming FFXIV, WoW, & XC. A wall of text that no one cares about.
Paperclyp replied to Bacon's topic in The Spawn Point
I actually played this for around 70 hours early in the pandemic. It was my first MMO. I played tank which I probably wouldn’t do again in hindsight, but I enjoyed it regardless (a lot of pressure for a noob tho). I only played through the initial game content (right before they made it more manageable to do so with a patch). At times I found the game very fun, stylish and satisfying, and others I found it to be insanely tedious and boring. Bear in mind I played the entire thing solo, and I recognize I was playing the weakest part of the game. I was impressed at how kind people were even when I was messing up as tank at times. I could see how if you had a good group of friends these games would be some of the must beloved things you could play, but my experience just left me past wanting more and part meh I kinda wish I had those hours back. -
General Gaming What should I play next: Witcher 3 vs. Ghost of Tsushima
Paperclyp replied to Bloodporne's topic in The Spawn Point
Play the Witcher. It's great. -
see if you could direct me to him saying he doesn’t want to be objective or tell the whole story, I’d be more apt to be more skeptical of his reporting. I don’t wanna send you on a scavenger hunt, so don’t go out and search for it by any means, but the way he’s being talked about as a joke and a hack it’s just like... eh I dunno it seems disproportionate to what’s actually happening. I don’t necessarily take any one bit of reporting at face value and assume there is no other side. But as a journalist you feel like no story is ever really complete or as fully fleshed out as you’d like it to be. And they all make mistakes.

if that is the case isn’t this precisely why a story like this would be important for crying out loud?

Also the GI stuff I saw was from a podcast that suggested that if there WAS a vote (hypothetically) that most people would have voted to crunch. That doesn’t make anything Jason reported that I’ve seen to be untrue. It’s also ironic that that clip of a podcast was taken out of context in efforts to expose JS, when they were doing the very thing they accuse him of doing.

Also he says in the subsequent tweet that it doesn’t make CD PR a villain or anything but crunch IS happening. what is the issue?

Lol I don’t hold any allegiance to JS, I can’t even spell the man’s name correctly. They’re as serious of questions as you are for bringing those up as points against him. I think the second question is rather applicable, though, as people are like HE WONT EVER ADMIT TO BEING WRONG, and yet never seem to offer any specifics about what he’s wrong about. And in fact, in this case they jumped on him and were like SEE THERE WAS A VOTE AND THEY ALL WANTED TO WORK, and when that turned out to be false I certainly didn’t hear a bunch of those people being like “wow, I was wrong and it was irresponsible for me to jump to such a conclusion based on faulty reporting.” If you’ve got actual stuff that shows he doubles down on actual false information, I’m willing to question his ethics as a journalist. But I haven’t seen that.

What constitutes a “full story?” What did he “get wrong” that he didn’t correct? If “net positive” is a garbage term to describe a journalist whose job is tO rEpOrT tRuTh AnD fAcTs, what about the term “toxic?”

JS doesn’t owe you fucking shit on Twitter. He doesn’t need to attempt to engage with the random weirdos who respond to him. Good for him for blocking them. Got an issue with his reporting? Let’s see the counter information. When presented with “JS is actually toxic,” vs “JS is probably a net positive for people working in games,” I know which one I’m leaning toward.
