Not necessarily discovering but just going down the 1992 list and discussing what I think of the albums on it. Some I've heard of course and some I haven't heard.  I'm at Nick Cave and the Bad seeds which is 19 on the list so it wouldn't be difficult to swing back around and put my thoughts on what I've heard since.

Which album is that, Henry's Dream? I actually don't know that one either if so.

I honestly do as well and I like a lot of really down and out and dirty bands/musicians but somehow Sludge in general just irritates me with the levels of wallowing.

Sludge is one of the sub types of metal that seams to be heavily disliked, and the wallowing aspect is a big part of it. I personally cant stand Power metal or NWOBHM .

I actually kind of...hate Power Metal flat-out. NWOBHM depends heavily for me. Diamond Head, Angel Witch and Witchfinder General are bands that pop in my head that I'm really into. I fucking love old Priest and Maiden of course I guess that's NWOBHM. I was never a fan of, nor interested in, all the tiny underground bands that England spawned around that time.

Since I brought up Diamond Head, all their studio albums suck I think but they have a batch of early demo-ish recordings that are some of my favorite pure Heavy Metal. There's a compilation CD I bought on a whim in the early 2000's that consisted only of those tracks, the polished studio versions are lame.

I like most sludge. I'm with you on Power metal for the most part with some exceptions. NWOBHM mostly like depending on the band, I haven't really heard a ton of it other than like the top bands (Iron Maiden, Venom, Def Leppard) which I enjoy.

I linked it in my post so you can look at the whole list and  yes, Henry's Dream

Some really heavy hitters released in '92, goddamn. I scrolled to maybe #30 and essentially every other album was something I like and/or a classic.

I just listened to Henry's Dream during breakfast and I have the same issue with it as I have with basically any non-Murder Ballads, early Nick Cave album. I love the music, the storytelling but I hate his irritating and jarring disjointed wailing. I get where he's coming from and all and I could endure the tone-deafness but his phrasing drives me up the wall on his older albums. His vocals are also always, probably purposely, awkwardly high in the mixes. I made it five songs in but had to turn it off ultimately.

Despite the same issue, I actually do really like Tender Prey and some tracks on From Her To Eternity for their sheer insanity.

I've loved Popol Vuh since I was a young teenager and discovered Werner Herzog's films. My uncle had the soundtrack to Nosferatu and it's been a mainstay in my album collection for ages. I had never heard this particular album until a few months back and been listening to it regularly since, it's great:

King Harvest needs no introduction

A good mix of funeral doom and death very much in the style of Hooded Menace.

I've been listening to this album, and specifically this track, a lot lately. I forget if I posted Deru already but if you're interested in Ambient music, this is a great album.

good stuff, the static and pops give a real low fi feel.

Have you ever heard Pye Corner Audio? I ask because they/he (?) have a series of releases called Black Mill Tapes which are transfers from old cassette recordings and I fucking love the lo-fi crackly sound mixed with some dystopian sounding electronic tunes. Reminds me of the VHS days as a kid.

@Bloodporne

I love the lo fi aesthetic, and the VHS days, not sure what makes it appealing for me though.

I mean, I grew up with it so I could easily just say that but I think it's a certain stylized 'distance' that's added for me. There's a more surreal quality to it, like beamed from a different time or reality than just 'right now someone made this'. It's hard to put into words but I like that distance if you will. I also really like demo sound and shit on Metal recordings.

I grew up on it as well but I never thought of the "surreal" aspect, good catch.

If you're a regular bandcamp user I'm sure you've kept your eyes out, the occasional weekends they will give 100% of the sales to the artists.

On June 19th (and every Juneteenth from now) they will donate 100% of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund

This is happening again this weekend BTW

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact all of us, and artists have been hit especially hard as tours and shows are canceled for the foreseeable future. With such a major revenue stream drying up almost entirely, finding ways to continue supporting artists in the coming months is an urgent priority for anyone who cares about music and the artists who create it.

On March 20, 2020, we waived our revenue share in order to help artists and labels impacted by the pandemic. The Bandcamp community showed up in a massive way, spending $4.3 million on music and merch—15x the amount of a normal Friday— helping artists cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and so much more. It was truly inspiring.

On May 1, 2020, we did it again and fans paid artists $7.1 million – amazing!

On June 5, 2020, fans paid artists $4.8 million, and so many artists and labels used the day to donate to organizations fighting for racial equity that we had to put together two separate posts (here and here) to list them all.

But the pandemic and its impact on the music community aren’t over, so on July 3, we’re waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp, from midnight to midnight PDT. Check isitbandcampfriday.com for timezone demystification.

Musicians will continue to feel the effects of lost touring income for many months to come, so we’re also sharing some ideas below on how fans can support the artists they love and how artists can give fans new, creative ways to provide support.

It may sound simple, but the best way to help artists is with your direct financial support, and we hope you’ll join us as we work to support artists in this challenging time.
