I’m just curious how feasible it is to play this game as a below average shooter player.

Heh, well you could always join a server that's just bots to feel good about yourself. That's what I usually do.

I hopped on tonight for the first time, thinking I would just play a couple rounds to try it out.... and before I knew it an hour had gone by. I only played Dust 2 tonight the entire time. :daydream: It looks great and the gunplay is still fantastic.

I definitely have lost my reflexes though. This community is above average in their shooter skills, and I think I usually finished around 6-8-4 or so (Kills-Deaths-Assists). I'll definitely be coming back to this in the coming weeks.

I’m surprised at how simple it is. There’s not much to it.

That's the reason for its tremendous popularity!

It's pretty much the same game it's always been. :p

To think Counter-Strike would return with a sequel 24 years after the original came out.

There's hope for Half-Life 3 yet!

Steam tells me I've put in nearly 20 hours into Counter-Strike 2 in the last two weeks. I've been enjoying it a lot more than I expected to after all these years on these same maps. There was definitely a learning curve getting back into it, there are still frustrating moments where I can't hit the broad side of a barn, and I rarely am finishing a game higher than around the middle of the scoreboard, but... It's fun.

What has been and what's to come for one of the greatest PC games ever made.

Quote

September 27 saw the full release of Counter-Strike 2, the latest iteration of and the first direct sequel to the greatest competitive FPS ever made. Despite the number, it is the fifth game in the main Counter-Strike series, which began in 1999 with a mod for Half-Life. Valve quickly hired the mod's creators after its release, and launched Counter-Strike as a standalone game in 2000.

Counter-Strike's subsequent journey is an article unto itself, but the last and most significant stop before CS2 was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, released in 2013 and built-upon in a pioneering fashion, and which was, until CS2, the biggest and most exciting esport in the world, peaking toward the end of its life at an incredible 1.8 million daily players.

We had the opportunity to speak to the CS2 development team at Valve to ask about the past, present, and future of one of the greatest PC games ever made

I've continued to put more and more hours into CS2 (currently sitting at around 35 in the last two weeks ). Despite some major flaws (e.g. gun mechanics are infuriating sometimes) I've been enjoying it overall. If you get a team that uses voice chat and cooperates, it's a ton of fun. It also looks really good, IMO.

Had a match a while ago where a teammate wanted to kick me because she said I wasn't buying any weapons. I was. What the fuck? Maybe I bought them after she had bought hers and closed her buy screen, but I don't know why she thought that.

That's really weird. Even if you weren't buying weapons: so what? Picking up teammates' or enemy weapons off of the ground is a reasonable strategy to save up money... And why does she care, anyway?

Tonight I played for about 30 minutes and in my final game, I went 11-3-4 (Kills-Deaths-Assists) and was the top player. I decided to quit "early" for the night because it wasn't going to get any better. :p

Steam is telling me I've put in 44.5 hours into CS2 in the past two weeks. The problem with that number is that I've only been back from a two-week vacation for one week, and I didn't play at all on my vacation. Soooo.... playing this has basically been like my full-time job this past week (on top of my regular 9-5). :p Granted, there have been several days off for Thanksgiving, but... it's probably time to ease up.

Once I've started to get better at learning the maps and the angles, learning where to target, when/where to throw grenades etc., I'm starting to more frequently get kills and assists and I'm sometimes even ending up on the upper third of the scoreboard; my enjoyment of the game has gone up a lot over the past few weeks. There are still some very frustrating moments here and there (mostly having to do with the gun physics, i.e. "how the hell did I miss that shot?!") and there do seem to be an above-average number of toxic jackasses playing (racism, juvenile attention-seeking, etc.) but so far I haven't been completely dissuaded from playing. On the contrary: the game definitely has that "just one more round" appeal to me. When you get a couple people with mics who are calling out enemies, strategizing ("you go this way and I'll go this way", etc.) it is really damn fun, IMO.

How much money have you made off skins?

Nothing gained so far, but I've spent maybe $10 to unlock crates. :p

Two of my weapons are worth about $20 each though, so I could potentially make it all back and then some, if I didn't want to keep them.

Are you playing, too?

The last time I played anything Counter Strike related was the original game when it was replete with people using custom sprays that were gay porn, so... probably 20 years ago.
