I mean, he's a good director, so in that sense uhhh - that's something.

Being a garbage person does not affect whether I like a movie or not. I love braveheart, I love apocalypto, I love the Pianist, I love at least half of woody Allen movies.

You can hate the people and the nepotistic system that keeps them profitable without hating the individual works and performances created.

Yeah, agreed. Whether they should continue getting gainful employment at these top levels after we have the facts though is another question, but I do like all the movies he's directed.

Being able to enjoy the movie is one thing, but I'm not paying money that's going in his pocket.

I'm kinda shocked that this topic has become about Mel Gibson and everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room... Why in GOD'S name are we getting another Lethal Weapon?! Riggs and Murtaugh have to be in their 70's and 80's at this point. The first Lethal Weapon is one of my favorite action movies of all time... I rank it in the top three of 80's American action films along with Die Hard and Predator. I've even gone so far to rank it ABOVE Die Hard and I STILL don't see how a 5th film could or will work. No idea.

I totally forgot about that for a minute.

I was thinking your were referencing rush hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

Maybe its time for a Lethal Weapon/Rush Hour crossover!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the success of Rush Hour is why Rock and Li were added to the franchise in the first place.

Somehow I've never seen any of these fully besides Lethal Weapon 4 when it came out. I'm mainly surprised to see Mel Gibson potentially directing anything again.

Also, I only watched 4 because I was a huge Jet Li fan.

4 is probably the weakest one. The first one is the best. 2 and 3 are ok.

He just directed Hacksaw Ridge, which came out in 2016, which was nominated for 6 Oscars, including best director. :p I don't think it deserved all those accolades but I liked the movie. It wasn't Braveheart/Passion of the Christ/Apocalypto-level (all classics in my opinion), but it was good.

I've never even heard that title somehow wtf. I only saw Apocalypto a few years ago but thought that was great as well.

I forgot Hacksaw Ridge was directed by Mel Gibson. For some reason I remembered it being a Clint Eastwood movie.

It was pretty good. A little bit derivative for a WW2 movie (there's nothing it does that a bunch of other movies don't do better), but it is still very well done.

edit: Ah, Clint Eastwood directed HEARTBREAK Ridge. I can see how my brain mixed that up.

Yeah, agreed. What makes it unique and helps is the pacifist solider perspective,

Let's not forget that despite being a good actor and a GREAT director, he IS a shit human being

During a recent interview, Winona Ryder revealed disturbing anti-semitic comments directed at her from Mel Gibson.

Apparently Ryder had been telling this story to people for YEARS before she went public.

Indeed. He's been pretty awful to his ex-wives as well. There've been some pretty bad incidents alleged.

I was going to ask why this is news before I saw your comment under the article.
