That's a fancy Toys R Us. Our gaming section was slips of paper you had to take to the front. And ours didn't carry nearly that many accessories.

Of course, nothing can touch Toys R Us in the 80's. That place was magical.

I feel like most of us remember the game slips, even into the PS2 days. Twas surprised not to see it in these pictures.

Apparently they're taken from two Toys R Us stores in New Jersey.

Oh fuck yea. Being a kid in the 80's walking into Toys R Us was like walking through pearly gates of heaven.

Indeed. And at Christmas :epilepsy:

After a while, it was just a store. But back then, it was a culture. I can still recite every single word of that fucking song.

I don't remember slips at any of my local TRU. They went from looking like those pictures to just sticking everything behind glass.

The Paramus TRU was my childhood TRU. It definitely used to have the slips, but I guess they did away with them later on.

Totowa TRU was mine. Mom would bring me most weekends. It did have slips. I actually worked there once in 2007.

I have an oddly specific memory of being in a Toys r Us back in the day, looking at NES games they had available. The back of the box for Simon’s Quest referred to the first game being a “cake walk” and I needed to ask my dad what that meant. Ever since then whenever I see someone use that idiom I think of Toys r Us and Simon’s Quest.
