E3 2021 is almost here, which means it’s time for HOPES, EXPECTATIONS, RUMORS, and VIDEO GAMES.

I've no idea the time stamp, so here's a summary from a Reset user:

"He also said a few more interesting things about Ubisoft:
Next Assassin's Creed game will be really big, even bigger than Valhalla
He heard similar things to the rumors of Ubisoft Sofia's AC being cancelled/morphing into a valhalla DLC.
The Far Cry after 6 will have a radical change for the series.
Skull and Bones will release in late 2022 or beyond.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still very very early in development."

Valhalla's biggest weakness was how big it was -- the content should be more "dense" in the world, and made with less copy/pasting.  It could be a great 60 hour game, but has the ideas/concepts stretch out to 150 hours -- which IMHO is to it's detriment.  [The same thing could be said about Origins/Odyssey.]  However, each game has gotten better than the previous one...

The trailers made it look like Far Cry 6 will be a u-turn away from the direction they started going with FC5 -- which while good, wasn't as good as the previous two numbered games.

I agree. The size of Valhalla has made me not want to get it yet (which judging by sales, they're not dying for my money lol), so hearing bigger isn't as exciting as it used to be when open-world games were smaller overall.

I know it's Ubisoft and I guess sales figures speak for themselves but I can't wrap my head around anyone finding 'EVEN BIGGER!' attractive at this point. I really like Days Gone but I'm not sure I can do another open world game after that for a long time. I don't know how some people fit this kind of game in regularly, shit gives me an anxiety attack just opening the map.

Days Gone could have had some fat cut off of it, but I think the content is so far between the hordes and nests and even scavenging that it's easier to not feel overwhelmed taking your time on it.

But on the whole, size is part of why I haven't played Valhalla, so I can't see myself going for something even bigger. But the tease also makes me wonder if anything's going to be procedurally generated.

Days Gone is very bloated but I enjoyed the gameplay and frequency of really well-designed camps etc. a lot so I was cool with it. I still ended up dropping it for Control, Shadow Tactics, Nex Machina and now Returnal and I see a pattern here. I did the same with Witcher 3. I really enjoyed both of them, especially Days Gone and I'll go back to it eventually, but I end up playing these types of games until I get my fill and never complete them. Not even close. They feel like some sort of exhausting life replacement simulation to me and with some distance I tend to view some aspects I found novel and interesting at first to just be dangerously close to real-life chores.

It's just crazy to me how much more absurdly bloated, convoluted and cluttered these AAA/AAAA games are becoming all the time. Half the time I read that kind of thing and just wonder how many years of 100 hour work weeks that involves for their employees to even get a game like that out the door within a reasonable time.

You know, considering Sony has given us big games like Days, Horizon, and Ghost the past few years (I enjoyed all of them), it’s been quite cool the past eight months to get slimmer games (Sackboy, Returnal, Ratchet, and non bloated open worlds like Miles or wide lines like Demon’s Souls). Destruction AllStars issue was that it launched a little too slim, lol.

It certainly made me appreciate games that are this length or just don’t have the same kind of fat in them.

Funny enough, I'm thoroughly happy with supporting $70 titles like Demon's Souls and Returnal over some bloated-ass Applebee's meal of a game I'll never finish anyway just because I'd feel like I'm technically getting more quantity. I completely agree and especially Returnal has been retraining, or refining rather, some of my tastes and views.

I'm still trying to finish Valhalla. It's just so dull. Odyssey was much bigger but a 100x more interesting.

I agree. I’m finally near the end of Valhalla after 80+ hours, and it has felt somewhat like a slog a lot of the time. I was never bored in Odyssey, I blew through 100+ hours of it always having a good time. It was just fun to pick up and play. But Valhalla feels like a step back in terms of combat/gameplay, and is extremely story heavy. It offers a good story and cast of characters, but it just keeps going and going.

I got the Wrath of the Druids expansion, and while it has been good so far it’s basically just more of the same dragging the game on for even longer. I want to finish it and the last main story quest so that I can move onto something else since this game has been consuming way too much of my gaming time.

I like a good lengthy experience from action adventure games and RPGs, but Valhalla goes a tad bit overboard. I don’t know why Ubisoft would want to make the next Assassin’s Creed game even bigger, but if they do I hope that it’s more like Odyssey and less like Valhalla.

They should totally make an Assassin's Creed game modeled after FC: Blood Dragon - a 5-10 hour 80's action movie inspired romp.  The animus is the perfect vehicle to fit this in the cannon even.  Hell, make this the first attempt of using an Animus prototype with Desmond's closest previous ancestor, but it all goes wrong because it's using 80's "movie computer technology".

You're saying the next historical setting should be...the 80's?

It could be, but I was thinking about doing a historical fakeout.  Be a prequel  using Desmond's actual ancestor from the 80s.  And be a throwback to the first games when you spent a lot of time outside of the Animus.  We'll play through the beta version of the Animus, but it breaks and the rest of the game is an 80s action movie.

How about an AC game where the story is told from the perspective of an actual person that actually existed in the historical time period, and they accidentally activate a device from the ancients (forget what they're called) that launches them forward in time to the 80's.

So they're a historical person in present day, dealing with not only the culture shock, but having to set in motion the creation of the Animus so that Desmond can ultimately go back to their time and gain the knowledge to save the world.

I mean, what if Leonardo DaVinci was actually the inventor of the machine that sent Desmond back into the body of Ezio, so that he could help Desmond find the Apple and therefore control the machine that saves the world?

Why the fuck not?
