The king of Battlefield datamines has returned to share the first details about Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone.

As some leaks hinted at, Hazard Zone appears to be taking inspiration from Escape from Tarkov, and Hunt: Showdown, with persistent gear and the potential for perma-death and loss of equipment. The mode does not have its own map as previously thought. Instead, it takes place on modified versions of the game’s existing maps, or some of them, at any rate. Temporyal found a Hazard Zone variant of Orbital – the alpha map, so it stands to reason that others exist.

The PvEvP mode inserts players with a Little Bird helicopter into the dangerous area, where they’re tasked with collecting intel from data drives and crashed satellites. This setup was actually hinted at in the recent Exodus in-game short film, which teased some elements of the larger conflict.

Across the map, you’ll run into AI enemies on patrol, and they’re even able to call in reinforcements. As in Tarkov, AI bosses will also appear as one of the bigger objectives in Hazard Zone.

I wonder if Michael K. Williams' death has anything to do with the potential delay.

I doubt that. There's been some rumours of a delay for a while now, especially since they still haven't announced a beta. From what I've heard before DICE was ahead of schedule, so maybe they hit a snag of some kind recently.

I think Williams's death might impact with their ongoing story plans as they will be updating the game and backstory throughout the coming years, and they probably had plans for Irish to appear in more trailers/short films, similar to what CoD has been doing with Warzone and its seasons.

Anyone try to the beta. Jumped into a game or 2 and the graphics on the Series X in beta mode looked pretty amazing. Some textures here and there popping in but it looks stunning. Couldn’t get a fucking kill to save my life and I should of had at least one. Might jump on for some more tonight after work

I’m interested in it but swamped this week and don’t think I’ll be able to play it. I’d be interested in seeing what people thought.

I played a round on Series S and it's pretty rough. Graphical glitches out the wazoo. Weird ones too that you wouldn't think would have made it this far into a build (even if it is "a few months old"). I'll be honest, and yes I know it's an old build, but I really expected it to look better on the Series S. At this point I don't even think it looks as good as Battlefield 1 or V did on the XBO. It looks like Battlefield 4. Like, if they were to drop in a map from BF4 it would look exactly the same.

There was no tornado in the round I played so I can't comment on how that looks. As it stands right now though, in my opinion if you don't have a Series X or PS5, this game might not be worth the premium $70 price tag.
