  1. You could just turn off the 3D effect on a normal 3DS...? I dunno, I thought it was great. Literally added a new layer to the visuals and I'm so bummed it went by the wayside with later hardware releases, and that they didn't even bother with the Switch. It was almost like going from SD visuals to HD for me. And it was so unique! No other system was really doing that "glasses-free" 3D effect. It was purely aesthetic, but man? I couldn't go back to 2D visuals after seeing an Arwing look like it's flying out of the screen and the nose of the ship was about to poke me in the eye, LOL. I've been playing the demo for Bravely Default II on Switch and I can't begin to describe how disappointing the visuals are because they don't have that 3D depth that was shown on the 3DS. I mean, it's still pretty, but it's lacking that "oomph." To me, it's like trying to play something like...I dunno, God of War on an old SD, CRT 4:3 television or something. It's a HUGE step back, IMO. But that's just me. To each their own!
  2. No way dude stereoscopic 3D was AWESOME! Well, I thought so anyway...
  3. I'll be honest, I wasn't really a big fan of 3D World. I felt it kinda paled in comparison to 3D Land and the lack of stereoscopic 3D and full 360 degree movement kinda sucked. And yeah, multiplayer just made things a headache. I'm still gonna get this, because Bowser's Fury looks legit and...I dunno, whatever I'll give 3D World another shot. Maybe I'll like it better as a handheld game. Who knows!
  4. Well, I think I've only said that Nintendo had the most reliable hardware...is that really up for debate? I mean, it's not like memes like these get made for no reason: I'm not saying Nintendo's hardware is perfect (I know from first hand experience, if you remember my 3DS apocalypse story... ) but broadly speaking it's well regarded as having the most reliable machines on the market. If you disagree, that's fine. I just think the majority of people accept the fact that they are. But like whatever, haha. As for Friend Codes...look there is no way to really deny the fact that the system they have in place is antiquated. It was when it first came out, and I won't argue. *That* said? I think it's really blown WAY out of proportion. Yes, it's ridiculous. Yes, there are better ways to do Friend Lists. Yes, it's stupid that they still haven't gotten completely rid of them (though you can Friend someone through other means without the use of codes). However, it's not that bad. I kinda rationalize it like this: it's like getting someone's phone number. What do we do with those? We plug in a 10 or 11-digit code into our phone, create a new contact within the phone, and then done. Never have to remember that number again. Now consider a Friend Code. We plug in a 12-digit number (*1* measly number more than a normal telephone number) into our Switch. Boom, done. Took all of 30 seconds and you never have to do that again. Was it REALLY that difficult? Seriously? I mean...c'mon. But again, yeah it is the worst online system for online play. But it's no where near as bad as some make it out to be. And it's not like Playstation or Xbox's online systems are this holy land of perfect connections and completely happy customers. I've played plenty of online games for both systems and had to deal with lag, slowdown, disconnections, the whole 9 yards. Plus my accounts have been hacked and had money stolen from both systems (never happened with Nintendo...knock on wood) And everyone like to boast about online chat, but honestly? The amount of garbage I've heard from rando's online? Yeah I've sworn off online chat with anyone expect my friends and family. I guess I should have expected it, but WOW. People get really salty when they lose in Street Fighter, LOL. I couldn't hit the mute button fast enough! Again, thanks for chatting with me about stupid stuff like this. I honestly do appreciate it. Cheers!
  5. I can’t remember if I ever beat Aladdin. I still own the cart, I should probably give it another go.
  6. Well, to be fair, I don't think anyone (including myself) said it was "great." Just that it's "fine." Perfectly fine. Not good. Definitely not great. But...it's fine. But what's this about not being able to play online with your friends? Personally, I do that all the time. And you can definitely send messages/game invites to your friends. In your Switch's profile page, on the menu on the left of the screen, there is an option there called "Online Play Invites" which is the 4th option in that menu. Right between "Trending" and "Friend Suggestions." I think there are some more options like that within their phone app thingy, but I never use that so I don't know for sure! The Share Play thing that Sony does is awesome, though. I do wish Switch had that. Heck, it should be industry standard! (does Xbox offer this service?) Nintendo had been doing an offline version of this feature for years...via the GBA/DS/3DS "Single Cart/Download Play" option. But that was just local play, not online. Wish they would build upon that for Switch for both offline and online play. But...alas. At least you can play classic NES and SNES games online together with friends, which is at least something. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't play classic games online on Playstation or Xbox, right? So...that's at least something. And okay, fine @BloodyHell THIS post was me defending Nintendo, sue me!
  7. Oh, I am? Didn't mean to come across that way, I was just making observations. I don't *think* I was defending them in any way in this thread? Heck, my first post here was saying how Smash online is still gonna suck. Maybe it seems like I'm defensive because I'm not dunking on Nintendo all the time?
  8. Oh, I'm not bothered by it. I'm just kinda...I dunno, "wistfully" thinking out loud about how most gamers view the platform. I think it's fairly well documented that I'm a primarily a handheld/portable-oriented gamer. I rarely play games on a TV, so I get psyched when I see a high-profile third party game come out, and the developer took the time and care to make it work on a handheld. And I feel that kind of effort often goes overlooked, which is a shame. (I recognize that this isn't always the case, btw) But I guess it's easy to ignore when there is such a better version of the same game on another system, and portability isn't a factor. And that's cool, obviously I have no problem with that. Hopefully my posts and thoughts aren't bothering you too much. I like talking with a wide variety of gamers and I definitely appreciate your own thoughts in insights. I hope we can keep up the conversation.
  9. Fair enough for multi-plats, sure. Obviously those don’t apply to *every* game, but it’s enough for people to think that’s the status quo and not even consider those games on Switch. Unless they want to play these games on-the-go or enjoy some exclusive modes or features in the Switch version of a game. But even the third party exclusives don’t sell *super* well. Most of the time, anyway. Most gamers just go Mario/Kart, Zelda, Metroid, maybe Smash...and then they are done with the console. I guess that’s just...I mean it is what it is. *shrugs* Makes me wonder how Monster Hunter Rise will perform on the market.
  10. Yeah, sounds like Animal Crossing would be a slam dunk here.
  11. That seems to be what most people relegate Nintendo systems to nowadays. Just a few core first-party titles, and then done.
  12. Ah yes. I do remember you kicking my ass pretty hard in Mario Tennis Open several years ago! And unfortunately I can’t blame lag for that beat down, haha. I’ve played a few online games on 3DS with some of the members here in the past, too. Resident Evil Revelations’s Raid Mode comes to mind, as well as Monster Hunter 4 ULTIMATE and Mario Golf: World Tour. Never had a problem connecting or dealing with lag or slowdown. Anecdotally, it just seems that Smash Bros.’s net code sucks.
  13. How shitty have your online experiences been with Nintendo games? Smash is (in)famously bad, but anecdotally? Literally all other games play “perfectly” fine online. I’ve never experienced the kind of lag/slowdown that I’ve seen in Smash in other games like Mario Kart, Splatoon or Pokémon. Even third party games like Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Dragon Ball and Monster Hunter play smooth on Nintendo hardware. At least, in my experience. Am I just lucky, or have others experienced this as well?
  14. Anyone else having trouble logging into the PSN? I can’t seem get on. Keeps saying my password is incorrect. But I know it’s right. I changed it anyway just...because...and still no-go. Is it just me?
  15. Dude...snap some great pics of random Pokémon with us! NEW Pokémon Snap is soon!
  16. Not sure all of these are coming out this year, but here's what I'm anticipating: Bravely Default II Monster Hunter Rise Monster Hunter Stories 2 Bayonetta 3 No More Heroes 3 Metroid Prime 4 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) Shin Megami Tensei V NEW Pokémon Snap Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Persona 5 Strikers Hollow Knight: Silk Song Yo-Kai Watch 4 The Great Ace Attorney Collection The King of Fighters XV Guilty Gear Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
  17. I've always appreciated the "Quick Save" feature in some games. I think Game Boy Advance was the first time I encountered that feature. "Sleep Mode" on portables from GBA onward has also been great, though it doesn't really effect (affect?) the difficulty of games one way or the other.
  18. Ha ha, joke’s on you; the Switch doesn’t get ports of AAA games! Oof, I think I hurt myself there. Gonna have to sit down for a bit...
