  1. I've been playing Origami King for awhile now and really loving it. I was initially turned off after finding out that yet again, Paper Mario would have meaningless battles, lack of party members, and little in the way of equipment/item management. Basically all the gameplay tropes of a standard JRPG that Nintendo has abandoned since TTYD. But now after completing half of the game so far, I'm not so sure I want traditional JRPG mechanics in this. It's actually kind of a relief knowing there isn't some arbitrary experience level you need to be at determined by the amount of enemies defeated, in order to beat the game. I can go through the game, avoid every enemy, and be just as prepared for every boss had I defeated everything along the way. With that said, I don't think Nintendo can get away with this in every situation, as evident by previous Paper Mario entries. Origami King fortunately has a fantastic battle system which is crucial. Every encounter has a unique puzzle to solve, and it's really engaging. Sure, you start to notice patterns pretty quickly and can solve the puzzles pretty fast as you progress, but bosses are always a blast and reversing the battle system is brilliant. I'd still like to see them attempt this kind of puzzle battle system while also keeping a cast of party members. And I do think they can implement a better equipment system, but overall this is a great step in the right direction. So anyway, this got me thinking. I think I'd love a standard JRPG, but with experience-less battles. For a lot of JRPGs, regular battles become more about the grind to progress the story than anything else. If you're not at the level the game expects you for a boss, it's going to be a frustrating experience. Whereas taking out the necessity to do battle along the way can reduce the monotony that often comes with JRPGs. Even the best ones. So what do you think? Are you on board with more Paper Mario's like this? Would you want a traditional JRPG to have meaningless battles if the battle system mechanic was rewarding in it's own way?
  2. You’re on the right path then. Just keep in mind there are secrets everywhere and hidden destructible walls to find.
  3. What other power ups do you have? Beaten any bosses? Exhaust everything you can do in the Norfair area and Lower Brinstar before dealing with yellow doors.
  4. I disagree. When you're adapting a story that everyone is familiar with I don't think it's necessary to play it straight the whole time and stay true to the source. And besides, they already show that Morgan la Fay is behind it all from the first 5 minutes of the film. Whereas that's one of the reveals in the poem at the end. And really, I think we saw everything we needed to see starting from the flashback and to when he decided to remove the waist band. The whole movie shows him as not a very honorable knight, and the flashback shows his life had he remained deceitful and a coward. Revealing the protective sash he had and removing it, Gawain was able to become the honorable knight he set out on his quest to be. I think whether the Green Knight killed him or not is irrelevant thematically.
  5. I always loved how the Prime series handled Chozo lore, so I'm excited for more Chozo in the mainline series. I'll be honest, this game is coming out at the perfect time. Almost everything is getting delayed to 2022, so there should be very little in the way of competition for Metroid Dread. Not to mention, there hasn't really been an install base on a Nintendo system more suited for this game. If this game doesn't do well especially during the golden age of Metroidvanias, I think the series is dead. If Nintendo knocks it out of the park this could be what revitalizes the whole franchise.
  6. The first thing she said coming out of the movie, "I hated every minute of it". Lol, as expected. But this was her idea so I don't feel so bad, and she always enjoys being at the Alamo regardless of what we see. As for me, I really enjoyed it. Didn't love it, certainly didn't hate it. I was never bored though or felt like the pacing was plodding along. I guess my biggest problem is his quest to reach the Green Knight didn't really feel purposeful or even that eventful. I know there's a lot of symbolism there that I haven't had time to digest, but there wasn't really much development in terms of plot or character. And I totally agree with @Zeluge, the ending was masterful. From the second he reached the Green Chapel I was enthralled all the way through to the credits. Obviously the big hook of the film is what's going to happen when he meets the Green Knight again. And I think when the whole movie kind of hinges on this moment, you build up an expectation in your mind that is almost impossible to meet, but honestly I think he completely nailed it and my expectations were far exceeded.
  7. So my wife knows I wanted to see this, and she surprised me with tickets for tomorrow. She doesn't do arthouse films. Is she going to regret her decision? She also gets bored at epic fantasies like LotR. So maybe this being the opposite of that will work in her favor.
  8. I've only played it on the Wii, which didn't have any camera controls aside from centering, and it was fine. The game was built around not having full control over the camera.
  9. Permanently on NeoGaf because I called them a hive mind, which they were, and then the hive mind moved to ResetEra. I've been temporarily banned on ResetEra twice. Once for calling out a mod locking a thread wrongfully, and another for having a 100% correct take about a race related news story.
  10. One of the most nostalgic albums ever. Anyone in their 30s or 40s can probably pinpoint an exact feeling or place listening to this. I feel like it's hard to be objective though because half the album was so overplayed for a whole decade and I really only associated Semi Charmed Life with Chuck E Cheese after seeing the same commercial over and over for what felt like my whole childhood. I'd probably go with Jumper though.
  11. Before I had kids I would have jumped on all of these 1up Arcades. Now? I do not want anymore clutter in my house. Maybe in 20 years I'll make an arcade room or something. For now though, I have this and just loaded every arcade game on it. Good enough for when I need an arcade fix with authentic controls. Legends Gamer - Legends Ultimate WWW.ATGAMES.NET
  12. Man... Metroid Dread... This is like Square Enix coming out with Chrono Break.
  13. Wow. Doing what Mario Party 9 should have been all along. Edit: meant Super Mario Party
  14. Really need to get Two Point Hospital on Switch. I have it on PC but I really want that controller support.
  15. Nah. They'll show software for the next 6 months. Tease the title to BotW2 and confirm Prime 4 is still in development, but they don't have anything to show today.
  16. Or just watch the handful of decent movies and skip the rest or just watch the trailers. Really the only thing that matters plot-wise is that these characters exist and they beat the bad guys. There you're caught up with Infinity War. Have fun. There's like a dozen movies you don't have to waste your life on.
  17. Still waiting for a console HD remaster of the second Ace Attorney trilogy. Surely that's in the works.
  18. Arriety over Spirited Away or Totoro? Spirited Away My Neighbor Totoro Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Batman TAS (including Mask of the Phantasm) Beauty and the Beast Aladdin Escaflowne Animaniacs Adventure Time Gravity Falls Perfect Blue Obviously there's tons of stuff I could put on there, but I'm mostly just thinking of the entire package: animation, writing, influence, etc. Like Death Note is great, but it's hardly even animated for half the time.
  19. I nearly considered tracking down a copy of Nier and dusting out the PS3 to play it. Never even realized this is a remaster of that game. Didn't play Automata since it was a sequel (though that doesn't seem to be a big deal). Maybe this will be the next game I play.
