  1. I've been saying for decades that the silent protagonist shtick was never good and makes no goddamn sense in any context! Every game that employs it is worse for it unless it's a specific story-related element. (Meaning the story was designed with it in mind, not people making shitty jokes about how quiet you are.)
  2. You're extrapolating a surprising amount of subtext from a very simple statement that I think I'm very clear on: Sometimes a good ass whoopin' solves things right quick. Otherwise you get situations like this, where one guy knows he can be a total cunt, and the only response the victims have is "Uhh... let's get him on social media! WOO!" the fucking idiot probably only has an Alex Jones forum account.
  3. I don't mean 1137, I mean like... 20-30 years ago. People have had the violence trained out of them at a fundamental level. Which is good overall, but bad for dealing with situations like this when clearly this dude needs an ass whoopin'.
  4. Yeah, lazy and cheap. I get it. They're a tiny indie company. They can't afford this sort of expenditure.
  5. The idea that they'd just reuse maps to build a bigger map just seems really gross and lazy as fuck to me. Like they don't trust themselves to make high quality maps anymore.
  6. I guess I could see the slow start complaint, but I didn't really feel that way at all. In fact, for what I expect out of a Dragon Quest game, this has gotten pretty much straight to the point. I feel like the first hour of DQ8 was running around a small town doing chores. Also I enjoyed exploring the big city in this one!
  7. It's like how crackalackin' means what's up NOT involvin' those crackas! A lack of crackas is good thing!
  8. Why don't you guys just kick the shit out of him? Remember back in the day when you were an asshole and you got your ass kicked, so there was a reason to not be an asshole? It's very effective!
  9. I mean, the quality of the instruments is better, but it still sounds like ass because it's not good music!
  10. That sounds like a good idea. But it kinda bums me out. Maybe someone will release an alternate OST mod pack or something. This one is probably my least favorite. Particularly starting at like 43 seconds in. It sounds soooo bad. Compare that with Ys 8's first overworld tune which I found to be totally awesome, a bit cheesy but I like cheesy (hence why I like most JRPG music!): Luckily that's the only part of DQXI I'm not loving so far. I don't even know if the DQ music sounds bad on its own, but I feel like it doesn't fit what I look for in an overworld theme at all. The overworld theme sounds like stodgy music for an ornate castle interior or some sort of ceremony, not some big adventure.
  11. I hope the music gets a lot better. The early music is really... bad? Like, actually bad. I'm not used to JRPGs with music that I don't like. Even the cheapest ones have catchy tunes. This almost sounds like parody Dragon Quest music designed specifically to be bleating and irritating. Other than that, having a great time so far. It's definitely picking up a lot faster than previous games and they added just enough to make it feel modern without overdoing it.
  12. Forcing myself to play a single game at a time seems like a nightmare! I can't be playing LESS than like 3-4 games at a time, and that's during drought season!
  13. They do! I stopped pre-loading a long time ago. With my connection even if it's 80-120GB it's still way faster to just download it. Yay for fast download speeds!
  14. Um... is it ever anything but running to the right and jumping? I mean I guess I saw him run to the let and climb, but visuals aside it looks terrible. Is there more to it?
  15. I tried to come back to it, but it still seemed fairly shallow. I spent years on games like Minecraft/Rust and the type building bases, so I'm not really interested in that aspect, especially with how the game has awful tutoriallization. On top of that, for a game about resource management, base building and survival the inventory system is a real steaming pile, y'know? Still needs a few big updates before I feel like it's actually ready for prime time. I do like that they let me crash my ship into the ground like an adult now, though.
  16. It's a very passable Ubisoft game. Anyway, I don't mind cutscenes, but I guess it depends on a lot of factors. What kind of mood I'm in, what kind of game I'm playing, how much gameplay came before or after, has the game actually started yet, etc. For example, if I just want to get in to see how the game plays, I want to skip all the bullshit. However, if I've been doing gameplay for a solid 45 minutes, a couple minute cutscene is a nice natural break where I can take a bite of my now-cold dinner and hydrate a bit. I mean, I can just pause the game to do that, but as I said, a natural break. If I watch a 15 minute cutscene, get a "gameplay" break where I literally walk 20ish feet and activate another cutscene, it's going to irritate me. Aside from MMOs. They specifically put that break there in MMOs so you can take a break from the story and go do something else, since you can't pause MMO cutscenes. I think I hate forced walk-and-talks more. Furi is an awesome game, and very replayable, but my god those walk-and-talks are only good once. I think there's a mode that gets rid of them, but they're bad in general because they can't be skipped, and some take fucking FOREVER. You can't even swing your weapon around and jump around like a crazy person to keep yourself entertained.
  17. Oh I'm happy to bring up these topics because I think people should ask for better. Console versions shouldn't have to run at poor frame rates, or should at least offer the option. But the bells and whistles are all that matter, I guess. Although I think it's an exaggeration to say that's even half of the games I talk about, let alone every one. If these topics are predictable, the pushback of apathy is as well. It's a tired circle we run in, but I believe we should have better whether people are apathetic or not. While I'm fine with the idea that my posts are predictable (I'm still the same person no matter which game I play, after all) I do take some umbrage at the notion that I'm overly critical. I'm critical of elements of games that are important to me. I am fully aware that what is important to me might not be as important (or important at all) to anyone else, but I'm giving my opinion, no one else's. I can't pretend things that bother me don't just so people think I'm being less critical. What's the point of giving our opinions if we can't be honest? I really don't get why it seems to bother people so much. They're just my thoughts on games. And this is a forum for discussion. I don't think I've ever told people they can't or shouldn't enjoy games, although I do think people should demand better from the technical side even if they do enjoy what they have. Even if I hate Dragon Quest XI -- who cares? Why would that warrant mockery or jabs? Funny time jabs, maybe, but I always get the sense that these are made with at least a drop or two of disdain. I'm sorry my opinions are predictable?
  18. Mostly for it to be a little less slow and just a smidge more exciting. I get that it follows a very "traditional" formula, but DQ8 for example takes a million years for anything of interest to happen, and it's all very basic stuff. Now I'm not saying make it trope-free, that's kind of the game's thing, but it's so PLODDING. Even Dragon Quest Builders seemed to have more excitement, and of course the Dragon Quest Heroes stuff. What little I've seen of this looks promising in that regard. Also it looks like the battle speed is nowhere near as slow as it used to be. And they've moved away from the --in my opinion-- extremely lazy and boring to look at first-person battles! To be clear, I've only earnestly played a couple Dragon Quest mainline titles. So at the very least my expectations are set for what the series provides. And to be quite frank, I've found that my opinion on series or even individual games can change over time, often resulting in me enjoying them more or getting hooked in a way I wasn't previously, so I like giving them another shot.
  19. And I'll await your vague, nonspecific praise followed by radio silence of it once you stop playing 2 days after launch.
  20. I've been excited for it for the same reason he said he was in the Bombcast. It just has a real fucking clean look and sounds great. Just looking at the screenshots makes it look like a lot of love went into absolutely nailing the art style and general aesthetic. I keep wanting to like Dragon Quest games, and keep ALMOST liking them. I'm making my way through 8 on the 3DS at the moment, and it's fine, but it just feels... off, somehow. I'm hoping that 11 is an improvement. I'm very excited to give it a shot in any case!
  21. Picked this up a few days ago, since I remember the E3 trailer looking delightful. And surprise! It's delightful! Great music, great little radio DJ guy inbetween music, great art style that's really consistent, awesome performance, game is simple enough to play with one hand (so I can jack it or relax, or both) and it doesn't feel all busted or janky like a lot of recent games like this have been. Is it coming to phones? Because a lot of the UI looks like it would work on phones.
  22. Yeah it looks like some outdated pile of shit with a terrible screen. Some sort of horrendous, antiquated device for crazy people and lunatic children.
  23. Girl you did not just talk about how bland this gunplay looks and then bring up ME or GTA, the epitome of bland ass gunplay in either case. Also GTA V is way better in first-person.
