Keyser_Soze Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Looks like there is still quite a lot of remastering to do. Quote This remaster adds 4K support, restores cut content, and more. 1 Quote
maddux4163 Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 I’m all for remasters. But man, this eventually stops becoming warranted after a while eh? Quote
Bloodporne Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 ...where is the remastering? I thought I kept clicking on the 'before' comparison shots but nope, that was the whole video. Quote

Remasters simply mean “playable on modern hardware in modern resolutions” it’s the easiest way to make a buck Quote

They're actually doing something with this version. Quote

gamer.tv Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 I can't say I've played more than a tiny bit of Shadowman (about 20 years ago, on my friend's Dreamcast) but I do remember wanting it and the fact that the N64 magazine I used to read, rated it 93% and decent for mature audiences - also the same score they gave Jet Force Gemini. Not much of this post is relevant, but that's what happens when you drag up something from 20 years ago... 1 Quote
number305 Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 My memory of that game is trying really hard to like it because it had such a cool premise, and it was one of the only really dark n64 games. I couldn't however find my way through the mazes where all the walls floors are ceilings were the same blurry muddy textures. Quote
XxEvil AshxX Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 I was actually kind of excited, but if theyre not touching the original graphics then i can assume theyre not tweaking the level design either. Some of those areas were just awful in their layout. This is the exact type of game i would welcome a ground-up remake for, but i just can't accept an up-res'd port. Quote

Actually this, give me "The Shadow Man" and take the concept, atmosphere, and bring it up to a modern standard. Quote

I loved the whole "voodoo/realm of the dead" angle and aesthetic, but the tech just wasnt there yet. They really could do something special with it now. Quote

Yeah, I mean, it's a remaster, not a remake. Quote

heydude93 Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 When playing the Turok remasters I was taken aback by how easy on the eyes N64 graphics with higher fidelity look compared to the hyperdetailed, dictating-to-imagination visuals we're so accustomed to now. Remakes can often be a definite improvement (Gears Ultimate Edition, RE2make, Black Mesa) but not always, so I hope we get more remasters and ports like this. Quote

Well in the case of Turok and this game there were PC editions out there, heck if you even watch this video you can see the N64 version is just a blurrier, worse running version of the PC game. But boy the PS1 version takes the cake for running like poo. Quote

Indeed, the increased sharpness/fidelity of the remasters (plus the added post-processing and various effects and tweaks) definitely make the visuals shine more than a straight port would. Even though the graphics in Turok 2 are simpler, the blood effects alone are hypnotically good. If only Team Ninja took inspiration from Nightdive. -_- Quote
vaxick Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Enjoyed this one back in the day, but I'd be hesitant to play it today as I'm sure time hasn't been kind to it. I appreciate Nightdive doing these uplscales, but sometimes I'd prefer a visual overhaul such as was done for Outcast. Quote
Keyser_Soze Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 Pretty interesting sounds like they got the assets from the PC but the source code from the Playstation. Looks like one of those old archaic games was saved by Sony But the rest looks like they did a whole bunch of stuff in blender so it wasn't just a simple port, seems like they actually did a lot of work.
