I didn't realize this was a direct sequel? Slightly more interested now. I wasn't able to watch with sound just yet bit did they change the origin story?

Yep, a direct sequel to the 1992 original. I believe it ignores the two old sequels.

While the screenplay was co-written by Jordan Peele (along with Win Rosenfeld and Nia DiCosta) this is really a Nia DiCosta film, since she's co-writing and directing it. Her claim to fame was the indie film Little Woods (starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James) from 2018. This looks to build on that interesting film, in a good way. But I'd only credit Jordan Peele's involvement creatively so much though I will say he not only co-wrote it but he is producing it (not just executive producing it, a very different role vs. producing). So his involvement is more than the usual as well.

I'm not sure I even saw anything othee than maybe...Candyman 3? The original had a tragic tone I loved and I just remember the sequel being artless trash.

I don't know for sure - I was going off of Wikipedia which says it's only following the original (ala David Gordon Green's Halloween).

Yeah I double checked and couldn't find anything. Even my first post I say it's a sequel to the first film with no mention of the other ones. Maybe I'm thinking of a different soft reboot sequel, or I've confused myself.

That looks solid. I met the original Candyman actor in 2004 and he was scary in person. I'd thought they bring him back for this.

I met him at some Horror/Sci-Fi convenction in Orlando in the early 2000s as well, along with David Duchovny. I always remember that fondly because both of them were super cool and surprisingly chatty.

Per IMDB he is in it and he is cast as Candyman. Which make me super excited, Tony Todd is damn fine actor. His role as Ben in the remake NOTLD was so good and while the other actors/actress were not really notable , he carried that film. I really hate to use this term but I feel like hes underrated.

Yep, I met him in Cherry Hill NJ at a horror convention. I met literally every horror icon there. Robert Englund was my favorite because Freddy Krueger was my favorite growing up as a kid. Even Andy from Child's Play was there lol.

Very cool to hear! Thanks for the info.

He was great as the Coroner in the Final Destination films and the voice for the evil flash in Season 2.

His list of roles is a mile long, from horror icon to cartoon VA, Star Trek, X files, Star Gate, and Broadway too. Mans a legend.
