...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM PDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of western Nevada, including the following
  county, Mineral.

* WHEN...Until 800 AM PDT.

* IMPACTS...Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos and
  water over roadways.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 451 AM PDT, Doppler radar indicated that light
    precipitation continues across Mineral County. Between 0.5 to
    1 inches of rain has fallen in the last 6 hours. Minor
    flooding remains a concern due to saturated soils and
    continued light rain.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Hawthorne, Luning, Mina, Walker Lake, Indian Head Peak,
    Excelsior Mountain, Hawthorne Industrial Airport, Fletcher,
    Mina Airport, Junction U.S 95 And NV 360 (Tonopah Junction),
    Huntoon Valley, NV 361 At Mineral-Nye Co Line South Of Gabbs,
    Rawhide, Junction U.S 6 And NV 360, Schurz and NV 361 At
    Mineral-Churchill Co Line.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

I don't really hear it. But to me and to the person here in town that pointed it comes off sort of after the fact. Like telling a person that is in an accident to not crash.

I more find it funny, because a few years back they put out a statement during a high wind event that if yourself in a roll over incident that you should stop driving along the US95 corridor...

it’s a common phrase in the south as well. People underestimate how deep the water is and can’t see the rise and fall of the road under the water.

The phrase is said because flooding waters can cause deaths after the rain passes. A flood and dangerous currents can sweep somebody in the middle of a storm, but many people will drive in flooded roadways after a storm, thinking their car will be fine. They won’t realize the depth drops considerably, and that’s when they’re killed.
