Thanks for the concern everyone, I really appreciate it. A quick summary of what happened to me is that I have diabetes and I haven’t been monitoring my blood sugar, and my blood sugar was through the roof. I got extremely sick with the most excruciating stomach pain imaginable, and was constantly vomiting without being able to drink or eat without vomiting. I foolishly thought that I could get better on my own, but I started to get worse to the point where I was going in and out of consciousness and hallucinating. My mom thankfully called the paramedics before I went into a diabetic coma which I almost did. I spent two weeks in the hospital getting better, but I also had a bad foot infection that they had to do surgery on otherwise I would have lost it. I came home Monday, and I’m feeling much better. They educated me in the hospital on how to manage my diabetes with diet and insulin so that I never experience either ketoacidosis (dangerously high blood sugar), or hypoglycemia (dangerously low blood sugar) again.

Yeah, they educated me really well at the hospital while I was there on how to manage my diabetes. There’s no way that I will ever allow myself to get that bad again, it was the worst experience that I’ve ever went through.

Feel free to PM me and we can exchange numbers. I’ve been diabetic since childhood and now in my late 30s have the best control of my diabetes in my entire life. It is worth the effort. Uncontrolled diabetes is hell on the body.

Always happy to be of assistance if you want it, also cool if not!

I somewhat edited my original post to give a little more information about what happened with me.

Did they get you on a continuous glucose monitor, like a Dexcom G6 or Freestyle Libre? Highly, highly recommended

Here is mine from right now. Instead of nearly useless finger sticks, you get minute by minute updates and tons of data to better understand the impact of food, drink, and activity on your glucose level.

You can also fairly accurately estimate your a1c by converting the average glucose reading into an a1c. Mine tends to be within a couple tenths of my official lab a1c results.

No, they didn’t get me on anything like that. I just check my blood sugar the old fashioned way of pricking my fingers with a lancet needle to draw a drop of blood, and use test strips and a glucometer to see its numbers.

Talk to your primary care doc or find a diabetes specialist and get set up with a Libre 3. Will save your life.

  • 3 weeks later...

I’m back in the hospital. :( I go to wound care three times a week to have my foot wounds cleaned and bandaged, I’ve been doing this for a month now without complication. This week they canceled my Wednesday appointment due to weather, so I had to wait until today to go again. So it was almost four days without having my foot wounds cleaned and bandaged, and when they went to clean it today they said that it’s infected and I had to go to the hospital. So I’m back in the hospital again, and was told that I’m going to be here for a few days.

Man that’s really bad luck to have it canceled and then get that infection like that, hope you get out of there soon!

We need to get this guy a steam deck. He could be playing Aria: Genesis right now while he's laying in the hospital.

I agree, it’s so boring here especially at night. I can barely get any sleep throughout the night because hospitals are one of the hardest places to get sleep.

I was in the hospital for 10 days a few months ago. What a nightmare and I truly feel badly for you. Hope this shit gets fixed asap.

They want to do a skin graft on me, and said that I’ll probably be in here for two weeks.

Damn man, really sorry to hear that.

Do you have a Switch, a Steam Deck, a Kindle, or something similar to help you pass the time?

Unfortunately no, just my phone.

I'm positive he doesn't. He could use a switch or deck right about now.

I could definitely use one of those right about now.
