No, but that’s why we have fan translations.

Fair enough. Kal was kind enough to get me a copy of Layton x Phoenix Wright when he was in Japan, but I still have it sealed and just bought the english release when it came out.  I'm far too lazy to even go with fan patches sadly.  Maybe someday I'll do it for Edgeworth 2 seeing as an official release of that seems basically impossible.

I've never played any of these games but thought about getting that Trilogy release for PS4. What's the actual moment-to-moment gameplay like for someone who knows literally zero about this series?

"Gameplay"  Think of it as a visual novel with occasional choices you need to make to solve logic puzzle that you either get right or wrong.  There is essentially zero player choice that impacts the story, you just find the right answer and move on.  Keep in mind a lot of these games are old and are not friendly in the way modern games are. You will frequently miss a step forward because you were in one location, did all you could, and didn't release that by doing stuff in another location you have progressed forward enough for new things to happen in the original spot.  I love them for the characters and humor, but the original games definitely feel old.

Miles Edgeworth 2 was great, you should definitely get on that. Oddly enough, I never finish Layton vs Wright, but I still have my copy, which is fairly pricey these days. I never got into the Layton games, though.

Fan translations have let me play some really good stuff over the years. That early Fire Emblem sequel that was remade for DS was fantastic.

I liked Layton x Phoenix, but I also liked the Layton games.  It's almost worth it just to see how preposterous the resolution is, but you would probably be fine just watching a plot video on youtube or something.  Main line Layton series games can get exceptionally tedious towards the end.

Hmmm not sure if that'd be my cup of tea but still might give it a shot since they do look quite funny. Thanks

I don't know what your phone situation is, but the Phoenix Wright games are on iOS and I think you can get the first case for $.99 or something.  It's worth seeing if it's even appealing to you as opposed to buying the whole thing.

They're great. My gf, who's not a big gamer, loved playing it with me, but she's in forensics in real life, so she was kicking ass in the game.

We still impersonate some of the characters in the game. Hell, I administer shots to her and she'll tell me, "I need an INJECTION!" as if she's saying objection. Fuck... I really love the stories in these games.

The last cases in each game are crazy cool.

There's a good blog post Capcom put up about how they go about localizing the game

Still waiting for a console HD remaster of the second Ace Attorney trilogy. Surely that's in the works.

I think I read that if Great Ace does well, then the second trilogy is much more likely.

Which works for me since I've only played Apollo Justice.

Yeah this is true. Capcom has pulled some games from the App Store after some iOS 14 compatibility issues. But there are still some there, and they’re all similar enough that if you really hate one, it’s not likely any will be your cup of tea.
