  1. People watch stuff on their phones... it happens. I've watched episodes of shows on my phone. This is a gamble for sure, but it is a smart one. I've been hanging out with my nieces and nephews for the last month. THEY DON'T WATCH TV. Their faces are glued in their phones and tablets. Parents can pay a monthly fee for a service that will keep the kids out of their hair... yeah that's a smart bet.
  2. Didn't see this posted but if it has been feel free to lock. Love this show and I'm looking forward to it coming back.
  3. To be fair, this award is for an original song in a MOVIE and how well it works for the film. Not how good the song is on its own.
  4. This show is AWESOME. I've only watched the first episode and I'm watching the second one now. Very well done series so far.
  5. Joker is the more "important" movie because it deals with issues.
  6. Sandler said if he didn't get nominated he was gonna pay the public back by making a bunch of REALLY bad movies and 11 nominations for the Joker
  7. No female directors nominated either... Oscars continue to highlight their irrelevance.
  8. Yeah Candyman was a classic and was VERY uncomfortable. Just an eerie movie.
  9. Knowing some of the things that are being planned as well as some of the talent involved I'm curious about the platform. The tech involved makes it even more curious. I DO think that one 1 minute episode a week is pushing it a bit, but what you gonna do?
  10. I don't know if these are considered "cult" films... they were all pretty popular and successful when they came out.
  11. There's been a lot of work with these guys the last few months. I haven't done anything for them but they've beeb hiring like crazy.
  12. Which is why I said I just don't find it to be an interesting take for the reasons I stated. I do feel like there is a good movie to be made dealing with a mentally disturbed individual who slips through the cracks of an uncaring, unsympathetic society... it just would probably be better served not having to carry the baggage of a comic book villain. In my humble opinion. All of the Batman stuff hurts this movie to me. It doesn't help it.
  13. No, I'm not "beholden to the mythos" I'm beholden to solid storytelling. Sure this is "a version of The Joker"... cool. It's just not a very interesting or compelling version of the character to me and brings nothing new to the character other than to make him an anti-hero... like dozens of other characters out there. This version of the Joker strips everything that makes the character unique and just makes him a mentally disturbed man. That's a take, sure. Alan Moore's "Origin story" in the Killing Joke managed to both make the Joker sympathetic AND reprehensible. This movie actively avoids making the Joker reprehensible which to me, personally, misses the point of the character
  14. It's also easy to just make a movie about a character like this and not call it "Joker" with all of the baggage that brings. Martin Scorsece did it 40 years ago with a little movie called Taxi Driver. When it comes to characters, you don't get more "catoonishly black and white" than the Joker. That's appeal of his character. Making him a perpetual victim of a society that does justify his actions to a degree which is why I said earlier that having him only exact his "righteous retribution" on obvious assholes muddies the water in what the film is trying to say. They STILL play him as an anti-hero in this movie which just doesn't work for me. It's why Rob Zombie's Halloween movies didn't work. We didn't need to see WHY Micheal Myers became Micheal Myers... He just IS. This movie tries to have it every which way... It's a one off that has nothing to do with Batman but it gives us a new take on his origin. Arthur is a victim AND a Perpetrator... don't cheer his actions, except he only kills the most unsympathetic characters in the movie because the filmmakers don't want you to REALLY be uncomfortable with him as the protagonist. Again, if folks enjoy the movie fine. There's some really good things in it, particularly Phoenix' performance and the cinematography. But the movie itself is weak. I look forward to seeing them undo the world they've created with the sequel though when you have Batman and all of his gadgets and bullshit running around THIS Gotham.
  15. Very astute analysis. I salute your well thought out and articulate rebuttal to my post You really ARE Arthur Fleck
  16. And this is the problem with this portrayal of the Joker. There are no redeeming qualities to the classical version of the character and no logic or pattern to the crimes he commits which is why he's so tough for Batman to pin down. The Joker is completely random in his thought process, but there's a brilliance there as well. Arthur Fleck is basically a mentally unbalanced outcast who snaps and then proceeds to enact retribution on everyone that he perceives as having wronged him. There's really not much difference in his thought process and that of your typical school shooter... yet here we are talking about how empathetic he is This is EXACTLY the problem I had with the messaging of this film from day one.
  17. I own that one too... actually bought two of them.
  18. No we shouldn't but whatever floats your boat. I get that some folks don't care about them, what i don't get is the failure to understand why people WOULD care about them. Seems extremely myopic to me that one wouldn't understand how a person would want to experience a story as the author intended without having all of the story turns spoiled for them ahead of time. It also illustrates to me a basic lack of understanding of how narratives work. EA didn't put that spoiler in a commercial until well after the game was released and most folks who were going to play it had played it. It's not like they showed it in trailers BEFORE the game came out because they wanted folks to experience that surprise for themselves. They even recognized that some people would have enjoyed that little sequence a lot more if they had no prior knowledge of it. Like myself.
  19. Yeah eventually all PS1's had to be played like that in order for them to work until they released the redesign.
  20. Yeah I'm there... Fargo is one of my favorite movies and TV shows. I may binge the other three season in anticipation.
  21. Got an O.G. Xbox then then upgraded to the X1X. Bought an X1S for the parent's house. I only have a PSpoor at my place.
