  1. The same can be said about consoles on your first paragraph. You only need gold to play online. I’ve got a few RL friends who don’t pay for gold and only play SP games. As for your 2nd paragraph - the same can be said for consoles again. Sony and MS both have really good sales almost monthly (and even better with gold). Also - if you buy physical, you actually own the game, whereas that’s not the case on PC except for ancient games at this point. And let’s be real, steam sales are not what they used to be since they implemented returns. 3rd paragraph, I’ve explained already(and no one corrected me for being wrong) is that gold subsidizes the lower cost up front for a console. $400 for console x 6yrs of gold at $60 = $760. That’s where I’m getting $800 comparable for a PC. Last paragraph, pretty much everything else I said. Gold subsidizes the lower cost of a console. Without it, MS needs to capture that revenue elsewhere - it’ll be in raising the price of the console.
  2. And of course, game pass for PC. Sure you could buy gears 5 @ $60 for instance and that would be it. But the value proposition of $5/mo for gears 5 plus hundreds of other games make it a no brainer. And that’s exactly what they are banking on. The PC has been established and MS putting a paywall up to play their games online would be dead in the water. They know that. The game pass for PC is answer and it’s a smart one.
  3. Exactly my worry. Competitive shooters is another issue with Potential FPS differences. Also there are games right now that give a competitive advantage to lowering settings (looking at you BFV). It’s possible for it to go the other way where things like foliage and effects are reduced on old gen gear. This could give them a huge visibility advantage.
  4. right... and my argument is this (disclaimer, i may be remembering this incorrectly, but I dont think so): i remember reading that MS makes little to no profit on the sale of a console. instead, their money is made on gold subscriptions and software sales. Crispy thinks gold should be eliminated bc PC players can play for free. My argument is that youre spending half the cost of a comparable PC as an entry point to play games and then you are amortizing the additional 400+ over the life of the console by purchasing gold. If MS does away with gold, then I would expect console prices to go up to make up for the lost revenue. and before anyone makes an argument that you can build a cheaper PC than $800... true. you can also get gold for $35-$40 vs the normal price of $60.
  5. but thats not the argument at all. Go back and look at our conversation. Its Xbox vs PC.
  6. Doesnt Netflix's highest tier plan charge you for 4K content? Thats basically the same thing. Arent 4K blu-rays more expensive vs DVDS at Redbox?
  7. this makes sense. However, I will say that there is a noticeable difference between the OG Xone (not the S) and the X1X. I have both and I gave my OG xbox to my son. The load times, texture quality, pop-in, etc. are definitely noticeable Im in the middle of The Witcher 3 on my X1X and Im playing on the 4k option instead of performance. The game is gorgeous....but the pop in and draw distance are terrible. Gimme that game with those graphical hiccups eliminated and Im happy. Thats really what Im getting at.
  8. they said 4x the performance of X1X. That seems pretty significant. All I want is interal SSD, Native 4K with a solid 60 FPS and a draw distance thats better than like 100'.
  9. again - A PC of comparable specs to a X1X is double the cost or more. Youre just spending the money differently. It would be nice if we didnt have to pay for gold but they at least give you a few free games every month to compensate. I really dont have a clue, but my guess is without this revenue, console prices would be considerably higher. $5 for access to hundreds of free games and day 1 access to exclusives is an exceptional deal. what do you want them to do? give you Halo, Forza and Gears for free?
  10. this is great but i hope they dont hold back the visuals to compensate for this.
  11. My gold was expiring on 5/9/20. I went on ebay and bought a 1 year game pass subscription ($45) and added it to my account. I then subbed to ultimate and Im now set until 6/9/21 (with the extra month free they give you). Thats two full years of the Ultimate pass. Im sure by the time Im ready to renew, there will be great deals on ultimate yearly passes as well.
  12. I dont agree with any of this. 1.) Xbox gamers have been paying for live for what? 15 years? Just because Microsoft is actually doing something awesome and releasing games on both PC and Console and implementing cross play/save, doesnt mean they should change their model on the console. If you want to play on PC do it...but cough up $800+ for PC. Or save $400 and buy a console and pay for gold over time. Its good to have choices. 2.) $5/mo for 100+ games now. Games being added monthly. and access to every first party MS release on launch day is a poor value proposition? Ok. Thats the cost of 1 game. IF you buy just Gears 5 this year, its the same price.
  13. Kinda reminds me of a spin on Left 4 Dead. Seems like it will be a lot of fun with a group of friends. Will Gears 5 be cross-play compatible?
  14. Ill admit after the sept update, Fallout 76 might be worth checking out. The beta I played wasnt terrible, it just felt like more of the same and I didnt get to experience or the issues people had with the full release since I only played for an hour or 2. Sad not a peep on TES: VI. I thought we wouldve gotten something else.
  15. Disappointed with the April release date. I try to scale by my gaming back come april and spend more time outside. This game hits literally as the weather starts to get nice and now Im gonna be glued to my TV for a month or more. Sucks. I was hoping for a holiday 19 release or worst case Feb 20 release (which probably wouldve been ideal).
  16. Division 3 should be 50-100 years in the future. Mankind has recovered since the events of Division 2 and has had decades of relative peace and prosperity. However, "the monster" has reared its ugly head again and is decimating population centers. The long-since defunct division is reformed and your are taken out of cryo-freeze to lead a team of agents to help track down the cause of the virus and also to help combat the resurgence of undesirables that are wreaking havoc on the population. Set in a near-future dystopian Los Angeles with all new hi-tech weapons and gadgets. Battle enemies not only on the ground, but in the sky and underwater.
  17. what about cross-play? if i could import my PS4 save to my xbox and then play with both xbox and ps4 friends, id jump back in
  18. In 15 years of being with my wife, the only game she ever paid attention to me playing was Heavy Rain.
