  1. Just finished Witcher 2. - Great graphics for its age - Better story than I expected (writing and voice acting were passable compared to terrible in the first game) - Combat was generally fun, but suffered from inconsistent difficulty - Buggy as hell. Any game that requires you to manually delete saves to prevent crashes to desktop needs a patch - Generally pretty impressive given its age Trying to decide what to tackle next from my backlog - go straight into Witcher 3, or restart games I didn’t get very far in (GTAV, MGS V, Spider-Man, Xcom ) or something new (Just Cause 4, Wolfenstein:Youngblood, Divinity, DMC5, Nioh).
  2. Anyone else having problems getting the app to install? Mine keeps timing out trying to contact the server during the install. It has been a free game on EGS before. Even if you don't like Epic, it never hurts to grab their free games.
  3. Looking at the list of presenters, it doesn’t look like there can be much in the way of big announcements or reveals. The only big publisher is 2k...
  4. Wiener schnitzel Its a breaded veal cutlet. Maybe its a Cali thing not knowing that? Because it is pretty common restaurant item in the Midwest and in central Canada -- particularly at Oktoberfest.
  5. You just don’t like hot things. Which is OK. Fire is only about 500 Scoville, I can tell the difference between it and mild, but it’s not really comparable to “hot” food at most restaurants.
  6. I've bought Amazon cables a few times (not just HDMI, but charging cables) and never had one fail. I haven't seen them sell braided cables though. (Unless you mean the braided cables sold by random sellers on Amazon Marketplace -- if you're buying those, you never know what you're getting.)
  7. Fire is about as hot as "Frank's Red Hot" -- it adds flavour, but almost nothing in the way of heat.
  8. I don't think there is much consistency in what "defunding the police" means. Sandy Hudson, one of the co-founders and leaders of "Black Lives Matter -- Toronto" has written numerous op-eds and appeared in television interviews. The position she has put forward is the complete defunding of all police. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1745746499555/ (I don't know if people in the US can see this link, but she is pretty clear on her POV) We must defund the police. It is the only option. Defunding The Police Will Save Black And Indigenous Lives In Canada While in some circles, defunding the police may not mean "completely eliminating the police". It appears to mean it in some circles, including the largest BLM movement in Canada. @CitizenVectron If you found my reaction strong in the other thread, I read it shortly after hearing the above interview on CBC News Network.
  9. The only HDMI cables I've had fail are older ones that had notable corrosion on them. Likely from over 100% humidity, and salt in the air from the ocean. I've never had one fail from normal use.
  10. There are very few countries that have unarmed police (Iceland, most of the UK, Norway, New Zealand). However, the fatality rates during to police interactions are significantly lower in other parts of the world where the police ARE armed -- Europe and most of East Asia for example. The vast majority of police work is non-violent, which speaks to the relatively low levels of death in Canada at the hands of police. When someone calls 911, how does the dispatcher know if a situation might become violent?
  11. I've personally lived through two police strikes , of a police force that is significantly more corrupt/violent than anything in Canada. I'm pretty sure I know what not having police is like. @CitizenVectron, if you're serious about disbanding police forces , why don't we use your province as a test case to see what its like not having a police force. If we do this, will you let me know how it works out for you? 'Cause I'm pretty sure I want them around in Ontario.
  12. I don't think there will ever be a single "miracle drug" for the treatment of COVID-19. Based on everything I've read, it is more likely there will be a "cocktail" of drugs. I don't think anyone knows what drugs will/won't be part of those cocktails (because I suspect doctors in different areas will use different cocktails).
  13. Another vote for RDR2 -- "dislike" is probably a strong word, "disappointed" is probably a better description. Other thoughts -- TLOU is a last-gen game. Horizon:ZD and GoW are awesome (and both are in my top 10 of this gen).
  14. There were a couple of comments on Canadian policing in this thread, just wanted to make a couple of clarifications. RCMP -- The RCMP are not analogous to the FBI. Yes, they do a lot of the things the FBI do in terms of federal investigations, but they are also responsible for policing some highways, and will do "regular policework" in some provinces, towns and first nation reserves. (And no, they didn't invade a first nations reserve.) A couple of other differences between Canadian and US police forces (based on my personal experience living in the suburbs of Detroit vs the suburbs of Toronto): * Death from interactions with police in Canada happen at ~1/3 the rate as in the US (On a tangent, I also lived in Brazil at deaths occur in Brazil at ~10x the rate of the US); victims of first nations and black backgrounds are over represented in these fatalities * Police forces tend to be at the "region" level (roughly analogous to a county ), rather than the municipal level (so they tend to be much bigger than some US suburban forces) * Tangent: They spend a lot less of their time enforcing speed limits in Canada. Which police force is most racist? I don't know how to "measure" racism, but the Toronto police force has had the reputation for having significant racial issues. But clearly, Canada is a BIG country, and the issues in Manitoba/Saskatchewan are fundamentally different than Ontario. Sorry for the tangent, back to your regular scheduled programming.
  15. Grading free agent signings. Grading draft picks. Grading offseasons. Power Rankings. Ranking NFL offseasons. QB tiers. Ranking "NFL triplets". Sports sites seem to be filled with pundits who are willing to offer an opinion, frequently with no tie to stats or advanced stats. Given the extra time I have on my hands I have googled draft grades from 3-4 years ago, and last years power rankings from a few of these sites (espn, cbssports, nfl.com, etc.). My learnings? These guys aren't any more "prescient" than your average guy on the street.
