  1. I don't think there will ever be a single "miracle drug" for the treatment of COVID-19. Based on everything I've read, it is more likely there will be a "cocktail" of drugs. I don't think anyone knows what drugs will/won't be part of those cocktails (because I suspect doctors in different areas will use different cocktails).
  2. Another vote for RDR2 -- "dislike" is probably a strong word, "disappointed" is probably a better description. Other thoughts -- TLOU is a last-gen game. Horizon:ZD and GoW are awesome (and both are in my top 10 of this gen).
  3. There were a couple of comments on Canadian policing in this thread, just wanted to make a couple of clarifications. RCMP -- The RCMP are not analogous to the FBI. Yes, they do a lot of the things the FBI do in terms of federal investigations, but they are also responsible for policing some highways, and will do "regular policework" in some provinces, towns and first nation reserves. (And no, they didn't invade a first nations reserve.) A couple of other differences between Canadian and US police forces (based on my personal experience living in the suburbs of Detroit vs the suburbs of Toronto): * Death from interactions with police in Canada happen at ~1/3 the rate as in the US (On a tangent, I also lived in Brazil at deaths occur in Brazil at ~10x the rate of the US); victims of first nations and black backgrounds are over represented in these fatalities * Police forces tend to be at the "region" level (roughly analogous to a county ), rather than the municipal level (so they tend to be much bigger than some US suburban forces) * Tangent: They spend a lot less of their time enforcing speed limits in Canada. Which police force is most racist? I don't know how to "measure" racism, but the Toronto police force has had the reputation for having significant racial issues. But clearly, Canada is a BIG country, and the issues in Manitoba/Saskatchewan are fundamentally different than Ontario. Sorry for the tangent, back to your regular scheduled programming.
  4. Grading free agent signings. Grading draft picks. Grading offseasons. Power Rankings. Ranking NFL offseasons. QB tiers. Ranking "NFL triplets". Sports sites seem to be filled with pundits who are willing to offer an opinion, frequently with no tie to stats or advanced stats. Given the extra time I have on my hands I have googled draft grades from 3-4 years ago, and last years power rankings from a few of these sites (espn, cbssports, nfl.com, etc.). My learnings? These guys aren't any more "prescient" than your average guy on the street.
  5. You're right. My point was more that the theme isn't necessarily an "adult theme". I agree with what you're saying on Uncharted 4 -- the story telling is on par with an action movie. It comes out soon, so we don't have long to wait.
  6. It could also be a theme for a cartoon targeted at a toddler. Could you elaborate? I don't remember a the plot of that game being much more than an excuse for action, and a facile background for why Drake was a jerk. I am not saying that TLOU2 won't be viewed as a great game by a significant part of the community. There are clearly a lot of people who like the stealth genre much more than me, and the strength that ND brings to the dialog/voice acting/characterization will certainly appeal to a broad group of people. However, if they have nothing interesting to say, and the demo is representative of the game, where it seem to luxuriate in the graphic "realistic" violence -- almost to the point of sadism. I'm certainly not very interested. I don't think it would be enjoyable to play for 30 hours That said, I am still very interested in what people who have actually played the game have to say. TBH, I really want to hear what they have to say on the Bombcast, because I think that crew will let me know if this is something I should play.
  7. IMHO, Naughty Dog has created games with very interesting/likable characters, written their dialog VERY well, and then done a phenomenal job voice acting them. They put these characters in situations that are a lot of fun to experience. I like the characters, so I like "being them". HOWEVER, the "stories", the overall plot, have never been memorable/good. They are good in the same way that a great action movie is good. Let's not pretend that they have done anything that have ever done anything "complex" in the terms of their storytelling. Nothing I have read suggests that this story is targeted around honesty, and complexity of real adult life.
  8. Actual Questions from Monmouth poll: B7.Have you heard about the protests across the country, including the burning of a police precinct in Minneapolis, in reaction to a recent incident where a black man died when a police officer kneeled on his neck, or have you not heard about this? June 2020 Yes, have heard 97% No, have not heard 3% (n) (759) B7A.Given what happened, do you think the actions of the protestors were fully justified, partially justified, or not at all justified? June 2020 Fully justified 17% Partially justified 37% Not at all justified 38% (VOL) Depends on which protests 4% (VOL) Don’t know 1% Not aware (from B7) 3% (n) (759)
  9. Oil prices have been consistently improving. Back where they were? No. But significantly better than a few months ago.
  10. Racism In Canada Is Ever-Present, But We Have A Long History Of Denial Racism is very real in Canada, even though it is fundamentally different than that in the US. After recently moving back to Canada, I was shocked at the amount of "racist comments" I heard -- both from white people directed towards minority groups, as well as minority groups directed towards other minority groups. Even in the last federal election, listening to all of the political leaders refusing to fully condemn a fundamentally-racist law in Quebec was disheartening. (I've even directly experienced it in Quebec, in how I've been treated by a small group of francophones.) The holier-than-thou attitude I have seen on social media this weeks from Canadians baffles me.
  11. Yes. For the story and the thematic elements throughout the game. It is based on several leaked videos, so may be partially taken out of context.
  12. My comments reflect my personal taste. I appreciate that others may not share them, and in fact may really enjoy the same things that are initially off-putting to me.
  13. In Vancouver, they are having a solidarity protest. White people are listening to poetry readings in front of the art gallery. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. edit:
  14. Latest on COVID-19 in MN: As state surpasses 1K deaths, protests raise fears of new outbreaks
  15. Authorities, whether America, Canadian, or European, allow peaceful protests and marches to go forward. There is a certain level of tolerance to violence, looting and burning. That is no longer what is happening in American cities at night. The focus is now changing -- and is being partially taken over by people who are less concerned about what happened to George Floyd, and are more concerned with causing chaos. In the past, most of the "anarchists" are white -- and I don't see why this changes here. IMHO, the justifiable cause/frustration of black Americans is partially being co-opted by white left-wing anarchist Americans at night who want to see cities burn. This happened in my city 10 years ago, and IMHO I'm seeing it happened again across the US today.
