Steam Deck is reportedly 1.6 TFLOP. Which is fine for a 7-inch screen. For it's price, it does amazing things. However, it is a $400 device that Valve probably doesn't make money on. Nintendo probably wants to make money at $300, and also have it play on a big TV...

Yes. You need a plan for retirement.

PC I finally took the plunge on the Steam Deck
AbsolutSurgen replied to CastlevaniaNut18's topic in The Spawn Point
The GPU on the Steam Deck is fine for the low resolution screen of a handheld. It's also fine for playing older/less demanding games on a TV. IMO, It's not strong enough to play modern games on a big screen though. -

I was only a member of a HOA once while I lived in Michigan. The only thing they seemed to actually do was prevent people from putting up fences. Very hands off.

Football is a sport that is SOOO much better live. [If the broadcast would zoom out so that the receiver's routes were on screen, I could be convinced to change my mind.]

PC Tech The gen5 M.2s are here
AbsolutSurgen replied to Spork3245's topic in PC/Mac Technical and PCCB
I even have 1 slot on my MB that can theoretically support 1! [Although if a GPU comes out that requires PCIe 5, then I am boned.] -
You will have to explain the term "big wallet energy" -- I've never heard anyone use that before. No one knows their future. I do know that their current management team has them in a distant 3rd in console sales. Like all big tech companies, I expect them to spend huge money on acquisitions, which they then proceed to destroy all their potential value through incompetence. This will be followed by huge layoffs in the acquired companies after several years. I could be wrong.

Played a bunch of Control with the HDR patch -- wow. Huge improvement over the auto-HDR. Black Rock Quarry, in particular, was very pretty.

That's what they have been doing for the last 10 years. They dominate shooters If you exclude Fortnite, Far Cry, Rainbow Six, PUBG, Counterstrike, Apex Legends/Titanfall, Battelfield, Battlefront, and Destiny. [And whatever other FTP shooter that is popular with the kids nowadays]. A CRPG is a "Computer Role Playing Game" -- and I struggle to understand how that is even a relevant term to classify games in 2023. They've squandered all of their biggest franchises like Gears of War, Halo, Fable and Forza Motorsports. Why are you expecting the same management team to have different results with the new ones?

Development resources don't matter if you keep pumping out games that don't sell. They don't monopolize any genres. CRPGs aren't a huge selling genre -- but you're also excluding CDPR, Bioware, ZA/UM and dozens of others. The thing about CRPGs is there are TONS of them, and many CRPGs are cheap to make. [Also, the distinction between CRPGs and RPGS is bizarre to me). What keeps blocking them is their failure to make great games and to sell large amounts of consoles (particularly outside of English-speaking countries). Potential doesn't mean shit when they continue to squander their assets.

Sony had 3 of the top 10 selling NPD games from last year (GoW, Horizon:FW and MLB) -- the only other company with more than 1 was EA (Madden and EA). GoW and Horizon:FW were both GOTY candidates. They're doing OK. Is it ever too late to compete? No. But MS hasn't shown anything to indicate that they are going to for over 10 years
