  1. This last episode was so good. The quality of this show is everything I wished the sequel trilogy was.
  2. The obvious ones: alcohol (in moderation) and caffeine (in excess). If Rhode Island ever gets around to legalizing marijuana, I'll probably do that on an occasion too.
  3. There are not really any clear applications for even sub parts right now, or at least I've never seen one proposed that made me think "oh that could be useful." Part of the issue is QC doesn't even make intractable problems tractable (by the CS definition), it just makes them non-trivially faster, but still intractable. That's why the way you make symmetric encryption robust to the existence of QC is just by doubling the key size and calling it a day. (My understanding is the way asymmetric encryption works this is not as straightforward, but there are still other approaches out there that would be. To be clear though, I'm not an expert in encryption) Bearing that in mind, now note that basically every problem in AI is fundamentally intractable and the only way we make progress is by figuring out useful approximations. Maybe at some point in the future someone will find an interesting connection, but if I had to pick investigations into new kinds of computing architectures for AI, I'd explore other non QC architectures first.
  4. If it makes you feel better, quantum computing isn't really useful for AI. At least nothing has been proposed that indicates as much. I'll stick to downloading myself into conventional super computers for now.
  5. Didn't feel that way to me. I tried playing it mainly for story with just one other friend, but it still felt like a lot of MMO boring cruft.
  6. Because they make great games and unique hardware. Seems kind of obvious
  7. If you like the kind of game they were returning to (BG) I'm not sure how you could dislike Pillars. But if you still don't I think their games are great, and Pillars is perhaps even the most obvious example of carrying the torch Bioware used to carry, so I stand by my list
  8. It was, by design, made for a smaller audience And the gaming community is better for having devs willing to make games with specific appeals, which is why I still think it's worth mentioning them.
  9. Could be, but I'm certainly happy for it for now. Actually, I would even be okay if they did start charging on top as long as it was a reasonable price.
  10. The Outer Worlds was merely okay, but I'm a big fan of the Pillars games.
  11. Bioware is dead. It's sad. But then I remember that we have CDPR, Larian, and Obsidian and I feel better.
  12. I'm not so sure about that. HBO Max is also releasing WW 1984 on its service for no additional charge. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ to Debut Both on HBO Max and in Theaters VARIETY.COM "Wonder Woman 1984" is heading to HBO Max and movie theaters on the same day. So they already are setting it as a precedent of just being part of the service.
  13. Put me in the camp of "what story?" I think for a show like that the only relevant question is "did he add comedic value?" Childhood me enjoyed it. Adult me probably wouldn't if someone made me rewatch it. That said I do remember this scene forever, for some reason
  14. I had to shut if off because he spends so much time saying absolutely nothing. So what actually did it in for him?
  15. I probably could do it that way, but I find that kind of "AI" -- with heavy emphasis on the quotes -- incredibly boring to do. Perhaps even more boring than GOFAI chatter bots. If I wanted to make it interesting I'd have a system learn how to exploit sites, which means lots of attempts, which means lots of money I don't have
  16. Weird. Generally I see academic links. In the worst case, it links to a pay-walled academic link, in which case I just search the paper on google scholar and get it for free.
  17. How did phsycis papers not have stable archived links?? Is non CS academia still in the stone age?
  18. Not super recent but probably as recently as within a year and it was fine. But most of the stuff I reference are academic topics and those tend to have stable archived references.
  19. Hopefully this helps others feel more comfortable. Wikipedia hate is mostly old guard. Unless you're also opposed to citing encyclopedias, Wikipedia is just as good. But the trick I use to tell people about Wikipedia when there was a rule against it is a good Wikipedia article cites its own sources and you can just follow those, verify it, and cite it yourself. So you can basically let Wikipedia do your research for you. In this case, I'm guessing it was just the original source though
