  1. I don't know about the Takis and champagne, but tomatoes with tajin is the bees knees
  2. At the very least, I've always thought of it as a "read the room" situation. Last summer I went on a hike with my (now ex) girlfriend. I brought my mask with me and would put it on when passing people on the trail going the other direction. At one point she was like "why do you keep putting your mask on?" I just looked at her and said "I'm only putting it on if people coming down the trail have theirs on, because clearly they think it's a big deal, so a few seconds of putting some cloth over my face isn't a big deal if it makes them feel better." Basic empathy is a hard thing for people sometimes.
  3. When we first opened for dine-in again, I thought to myself "I'm not going to be a mask nazi, people take them off when they sit down, anyway." VERY quickly it turned into an asshole check. I don't care about the mask so much as your refusal to wear one alerts me that you're an asshole and you can go somewhere else.
  4. Here is a video I found earlier today about how the Middle-earth Amazon series will fail (tl;dw it's because POC will be in it) In case you don't want to watch, this is a pretty small video (only <6k views) that somehow made it into my feed, but I thought I'd give it a bash. He starts by saying "it's not going to be faithful to the source material," so I thought "weird, since we know almost nothing about the story, but alright." Turns out the argument basically boils down to "it's going to suck because they have to put people of color in middle-earth these days." The dude gives a detailed account of how Tolkien "intended" for Middle-earth to be a sort of stand in for native English mythology (which is bullshit), and also says that somehow Beowulf doesn't count as English mythology because it was brought over to England by the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes? But also Tolkien using Anglo-Saxon as the basis for Rohirric *does* make THAT English. Anyway whatever, the point is he is saying without saying that having people of color in Middle-earth ruins it. And the comment section on that video is ridiculous. There's someone else bitching about how The Witcher had people of color in it. Like somehow this TV fantasy series about a made up land that doesn't exist somehow diminishes Slavic culture. I'm sure having black people play orcs is totally fine, though. Side note: Tolkien also very rarely gave detailed physical descriptions of his characters. The Orcs, for example, are never described as dark-skinned, that's just the way they've always been portrayed. Tolkien never even tells us Legolas' hair color - that was just a movie invention (also whether Elves have pointy ears isn't fully clear). No mention is ever given to the skin color of Dwarves, or really anything about them other than their stature and their beards. And while the Gondorians of Numenorean descent were described as "fair-skinned," it doesn't say anything about all the other people of Gondor. I... uh...
  5. You are correct here. That's why I think something like negligent homicide or reckless whatever that resulted in the criminal death of another human being, which all states have laws for to some degree or another, would be more fitting. Again, being a racist fuckstick is not a crime. When he aided the McMichaels in murdering Ahmaud Arbery, he didn't know he was doing it, at least in terms of it being an essential lynch mob. You can absolutely argue that he should have just fucking stayed out of it and called the cops, which is why I think prison time is justified, but he was not an instigator. He did not enter the situation with the intent to kill someone, whereas the McMichaels were totally ready to shoot the dude.
  6. I'll try it with you if you let me stay in your guest house for a week
  7. My favorite was an old video of his talking about a Hyperloop and he was like "you could improve the Hyperloop by linking the cars together so that they could all leave at the same time, allowing for greater volumes of traffic to ever and exit - oh wait THAT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE A TR----"
  8. His dunking on Elon musk videos are my favorite
  9. Agreed. I feel like there should have been some version of reckless homicide, negligent manslaughter or some other equivalent that at least most states have.
  10. That leads to a larger discussion of things like RICO laws and stuff, though. The only reason the mafia ever got taken down was *because* laws were changed that allowed for the prosecution of crimes that someone didn't directly commit. So that's a slippery slope. On this case, though, I feel a bit uncomfortable that the third dude got life in prison for unknowingly being party to murder. Prison time, sure, but life in prison, and he'll be like 80 before he's eligible for parole?
  11. You are correct in all of that. I also believe "but a black man would have been charged with [blank] isn't an excuse. That's curiously something you find a lot in felons. There's a lot of "they got 2 years when I got 7 for the same crime!" And like that anger is entirely justified. The solution isn't to hope others get the same injustice that you did, though. It sounds like the dude is a turd, but he never set out to kill anyone that day. Being a racist turd isn't a felony offense
  12. She wouldn't even get out of bed for anything other than a prolapsed anus
  13. I didn't pay too close attention, how true was it that the other dude didn't even really know what was going on? I've seen some people say that
  14. I know how legendary he is, but I don't think I've honestly seen a single thing he's ever been in.
  15. Are you one of those "for every animal you don't eat I'll eat three" people?
  16. As much as I love ES (I have an elder scroll tattoo) I feel like if it was adapted it would just be more bland fantasy garbage and maybe I'm not so much in the mood for that these days. Fallout makes more sense to me and sounds more appealing
  17. Burn southern California (oh wait they don't need help with that) Actually, I do know some people who have lived in southern California without a car. My cousin has lived in LA his whole life and he has gone without a car more often than not. My friend Hunter lived in LA for almost a decade without a car. For my money, Arizona is by far the bigger suburban car hellscape. Not that we should be awarding points to any of them.
  18. I've seen nothing that indicates they will cancel it. It's one of their most popular shows despite the first season being not that great. I know the recent cowboy bebop shit has people think they just cancel things all the time, but they really don't, all things considered. They kept black mirror going for like 8 years. I do think there's an inherent disadvantage to the "release it all and see what happens" method of show creation. Like it's basically a gig economy. I think that's why Netflix shows can vary so wildly from season to season. A lot of the people who worked on the first season aren't there for the second because they can't wait to see if the show will get picked up for another season before they move into other work.
  19. I forget where I said it, but if they just made a Witcher series that is basically a medieval fantasy version of the first few seasons of Supernatural, I would be fine with that. The first episode of season 2 was by far my favorite because that's kind of what it felt like.
  20. I get the fiery poops when I eat something that has capsaicin extract in it, because I'm pretty sure your body can't completely digest that, but I don't get them from things like ghost peppers
  21. I don't get flaming poops after eating spicy food, is that a thing most people deal with? I always thought it was just a joke.
  22. Yeah, I think the second season benefits a lot from not hopping around timelines a lot. The character development feels a lot more natural. However, I'll be the first to say that the books.. aren't that good? At least in my opinion. So far I prefer the games and the show. That's why every time I read about the author getting all controlling about shit I'm like "dude, if it wasn't for the games, no one outside of fantasy nerds in Poland would ever have even heard of your books." The games all take place after the books.
