  1. There might be some rights issues adapting stories from the games. Iirc CDPR "owns" those stories, as there have been disputes between them and the author. Which I think is stupid, no one outside of Poland would have ever even heard of the Witcher it wasn't for the games, but whatever. Kind of like how the rights to anything middle earth related were always really tricky until recently in terms of what you could or couldn't use and depending on what medium it was presented in. At any rate, at the pace they're going, they'll probably blow through the books in like another 2 seasons. Maybe that's all they want to do? Who knows.
  2. Should have just committed and got each other's initials tattooed on your butt cheeks. Congratulations on the engagement
  3. I'm not going to theaters these days, mainly because I usually start getting for work at like 2:30, so unless I go on my days off it ain't happening. That was true pre-covid, too, though. I might sail the seven seas for this one, at least until it hits Disney+, which I'm assuming it will (the other Spider-Man MCU movies are if they haven't already) I don't know. There's a room in my house with comfy chairs and a 9 foot projector. Perfect for getting a theater experience while also being able to watch movies at 2am
  4. Also, and again I understand why they can't do it for narrative reasons, but I want Geralt to do more... witchering. The first episode is one of the best because it involves sort of a one-off monster-of-the-week Witcher case. I understand they can't do it all the time because Ciri is really the driver of the show narrative, not Geralt, so he can't be fighting a bruxa or whatever every episode, but that really is the most fun part of the show, at least for me. They're not trying to make a medieval fantasy version of the first few seasons of Supernatural... buuuuut I kind of wish they were. Geralt roaming, solving monster cases, sometimes accompanied by yennefer or triss or dandelion or Zoltan or Yarpin or some combination of the above, in my opinion, would make for a better show than the whole child of destiny arc. Not that I don't enjoy that, too.
  5. It's out, and I just finished watching the entire season. You can definitely see the budget increase in season 2. The action scenes in general are much, much better, and there are a lot more of them. I'm starting to not remember as much from the books anymore, but the show still does seem to mostly be keeping pretty close to the large beats of the story, while leaving out a lot of the stuff that's fucky and weird, which is probably for the best. The big knock on the show is that any time they shift away from Geralt/Ciri/Yennefer it feels like the pace just stops dead in its tracks. I understand that we need to check in on the scheming of Fringilla, Vilgefortz, Vizimir, and all the others from time to time, but it's just kind of boring. I'm starting to understand why HBO just decided to put a bunch of boobs in those scenes during the early years of Game of Thrones. Another interesting thing is that the show ends with a post-credits teaser for another upcoming show, The Witcher: Blood Origin. There wasn't much to see, but it looked fun.
  6. I don't parciularly care if a movie is historically accurate or not as long as it tells a good story, as long as the historical inaccuracies aren't dangerous. Like who gives a shit if the Scots wear kilts in Braveheart, or if they have Samurai using swords and arrows against rifles while wearing armor from the 1600's? That's why I'm totally fine separating accuracy vs. "is it a good movie."
  7. Probably. It was a good show.
  8. My favorite middle name story is when Macaulay Culkin ran a twitter poll to change his middle name and the winner of the poll was "Macaulay Culkin." So his name is now Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.
  9. Living in a haunted house would be fucking rad, as long as the spirits or whatever you call them don't do that whole possession thing. Killing your family is no bueno. Real talk, though, I don't believe in ghosts, HOWEVER there was one time I went to a place called Fort Stevens, which is an old fort on the mouth of the Columbia. Me and a bunch of people went camping there. We got a guided tour of the actual fort, and I remember walking by this ventilation shaft that went down to the bunker/basement, and me and my friend could have sworn we heard yelling from down the shaft. We mentioned it to our guide and he was like "there's no one down there." Then, that night, me and that same friend had the same dream about a guy standing outside our tent, and it was one of the most restless nights I've ever had. Ghosts? I'm assuming not, but it was pretty fucking creepy. Anyone else have ghost stories?
  10. That's not why it's preposterous from a historical perspective. I can get behind a white outsider to ease us into the struggle as an audience and therefore have no problem with Tom Cruise being the main character of the movie. The "last samurai" were not fucking shooting arrows on horseback while riding into machine gun fire. The samurai were a privileged class that lost their privilege in the Meiji era and fought to protect it. It wasn't a noble cause and they certainly never brought a sword to a machine gun fight. Not to mention the impractical armor used in the movie. It basically paints a romantic portrait of bushido culture that never existed, let alone in the late 19th century when they definitely were using guns. I could go into a whole thing about the depiction of the "noble savage" in films and why it's patronizing colonial apologism, but I'm a WASP so even me saying it is also patronizing in its own way. ... still, it's a good movie. I can appreciate a good story regardless of context.
  11. Yeah, that was crazy to me that he didn't at least get concurrent sentences or something. Even the judge was basically like "you don't deserve to spend the rest of your life in prison, but..." Was it a mandatory minimum thing or something?
  12. My other sister's middle name is Lynn. Lynn is also the name of their mom.
  13. The fact that you have a sibling makes me feel better
  14. Her middle name is Dean. I think it's one of those things where her grandfather didn't have a male heir so they named her middle name after him? I never met him, but he sounds like he'd be a Dean.
  15. I can remember where @Jasonwent to college and @Rachel's bench warrant in Washington but I can't remember my own sister's middle name
  16. Also aren't you an only child? Why do I know that, if that's the case? This board can't be doing good things to my brain.
  17. No, she wasn't just born. She's about 15 years older than me, as a matter of fact. She's actually the one who named me, ironically. I know all of my other siblings middle names. It never occurred to me that I didn't know her middle name. I guess it just never came up? I was going over some forms and her middle name popped up on one and I went "... huh." In my 31 years on this planet, all of which she has existed for, her middle name has somehow never come up. Not knowing someone's middle name isn't exactly uncommon. I couldn't tell you my ex's middle name and we were together for 4 years (I'm sure I did know it at some point), but I have literally known my sister my whole life. I know the middle names of at least two of her children.
  18. I made the mistake of Chinese food last night. I shat like 3 times last night and also ate everything.
  19. Just as my twitch thot career was in its infancy. I was going to wear a thong in a hot tub and run a just chat thirst trap channel where all we talked about was lost cause mythology. Foiled by the man once again...
