Republicans pushed for it in the 2000s both times, and it was also something ridiculed by many leftists IIRC who laughed at the notion that people will try to stimulate the economy by buying something as opposed to using it to pay all or part of one bill. Democrats were literally out there pushing for permanent paid leave in the past week, which is significantly more important than a one-time check, not to mention Andrew Yang pushing for a monthly stipend along with other Dem candidates who either supported it or considered it (maybe it was just the latter, I forget). I don't think this is the hill anyone here needs to die on. This just ain't it; it's already happened twice in our lifetimes, maybe a third time coming soon

I don't think Democrats have historically voted against this kind of stuff. They voted against the Bush tax cuts of 2001 because of the huge cuts to big business and corporations that were included, but the 2008 one-time stimulus was bipartisan. A few Democratic Senators running against it doesn't seem like a big deal when a very notable Democratic candidate ran on giving people $1000 a month, along with several candidates open to exploring UBI. It's just not a new idea or something that saved Republicans in 2008.

I wouldn't use this as an example. He said we should give Americans $1000, not $1000 a month. That's not much different than Bush's tax rebate plan in the early 2000s that gave checks to all Americans, and his subsequent one in early 2008 with a Democratic Congress in place and bipartisan support. This idea isn't new, nor is an economic stimulus via tax rebates a new idea. See socialist Lewis Black:

Just to be sure, was this for The Asylum or intended for the current events board? I'm gonna take a look because I'm fascinated at them not just believing weird conspiracy theories, but what happens when you easily take down poorly thought out talking points and "evidence" for these far-fetched conspiracies -- they not only think of an explanation to try to reason through it, but they go all-in and 100% believe an explanation they just made up 2 minutes ago.
