Queen Elizabeth being overthrown in favor of republicanism!

Recommended Posts

I'd like to point out that Barbados was colloquially known as "Little England" among the rest of the English-speaking Caribbean so this has come as a surprise to us!

Barbados will be the third republic in the English-speaking Caribbean after Guyana (1970) and Trinidad and Tobago (1976).

Your move, Jamaica!

Caribbean nation elects governor general to new role prior to former British colony becoming a republic

Barbados has elected its first president with just weeks to go until the Caribbean island becomes a republic and ceases to recognise Queen Elizabeth as its head of state.

The island’s governor general, Dame Sandra Mason, was elected almost unanimously by the former British colony’s parliament on Wednesday, with only one member declining to vote.

Mason, a 72-year-old judge and former ambassador, will be sworn in on 30 November, the 55th anniversary of her country’s independence from Britain in 1966.

It would appear that Her Majesty, Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her Other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith is not taking this development too well:

Queen Elizabeth II spent Wednesday night at a hospital while undergoing "preliminary investigations," according to a Buckingham palace spokesperson, after abruptly canceling a planned trip to Northern Ireland this week.
