Jason
Alabama town gets first Black mayor, but the previous one won't leave WWW.DAILYKOS.COM Newbern is a Black-majority town in rural Alabama that, according to residents, has never had an election. Patrick Braxton ran to become its first Black mayor in 2020. With no opponent, he ascended into the office by default, but you’d never know it....

Nokra
As a northern libtard, it always is shocking to me how some people act like the American Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement aren't "ancient" history whose lessons we should have fully absorbed by now. Bloody hell.
Guest
People might be surprised how many little towns like this don’t hold elections for public office. It really creates chaos when somebody challenged that, even separate from the obvious racial issues at play in this particular scenario. Tiny town politics are wild stuff

Didn't think I'd be surprised again, but here we are. >_>

If he's stuck doing everything out of his own pocket, it might have taken him a while to raise the funds to hire an attorney.
