The bipartisan group working on legislation to codify same-sex marriage has the votes needed for the bill to pass and is urging leadership to put it on the floor for a vote as soon as possible, multiple sources told CNN.

Don’t like the valid marriages bit

It seems like a very defensive bill that is doing everything it can to stop itself from being taken before our very conservative and partisan Supreme Court. This passes, then who would have standing to sue over it? This bill seems aimed at keeping the number of people who would to the bare minimum.

County clerks like Kim Davis (iirc) could not issue one under “religious liberty” grounds for standing

Do you think courts will use that to declare certain marriages invalid and thus not applicable to the bill?

That part? No. They’ll strike it down on same grounds they did in Hobbs. It would only force states that ban same sex marriage to recognize the marriages (though I’m sure they’ll try and wiggle their way out of it)

id like to see congress make any review of marriage on the basis of sex stripped from the jurisdiction of the courts as they have already ruled on it, and congress affirming the ruling. I think that’s a stronger place to be politically as the legal issues are being made up as they go by a partisan, reactionary court.

The silver lining to her overstepping her bounds was Huckabee got to her:
