Maybe common knowledge but wasn't to me: Wayfair is absolute shit

I moved a few months back and decided hey, why not try Wayfair for an office desk. My friend and his girlfriend moved around the same time and told me to give them a shot.

Three months later and I still have an incomplete $400 office desk that's help up by a stack of books on one side and has approximately four crushed corners elsewhere. My friend got two broken chairs and some busted glass. We're both still getting emails that "unfortunately your replacement parts are on back order, sorry". They pack their shit so insufficiently, it's kind of funny, and the only option appears to be to somehow send back an office desk that weighs a ton for a refund.

I don't know if I'm just a dummy and this is common knowledge but holy lord does this company suck ass. I'm looking at this piece of shit they sent me right now while deleting yet another "lol sorry replacements parts, nope!" email and had to vent somehow.

They have a lot of issues; one time I had some patio furniture ‘lost in the mail’, and basically all of the evidence pointed toward them running out of stock and just pretending to ship it rather than refunding me. Sucks though, because finding good mid-level furniture can be tough.

Never ordered anything from there myself, but I was doing a job and a customer ordered a vanity for their bathroom. The way it was packed provided no support for the center of the vanity, so the granite top cracked in middle.

They ended up just telling the customer to keep it and gave a full refund, and then I had my granite guy put a new top on it.

We ordered a king size bed frame from them last year, cost about $350.  It was honestly a perfect experience. I just don't have the highest hopes for the frame to last very many years. I have to tighten up the screws every other month. Lean on the headboard and it makes some creaking noises. We lucked out with no shipping problems, and it was packaged very nicely with a comical amount of protective foam that we had to throw out.

I've heard a lot of negative things about them lately though and I doubt I would ever blind buy a piece of furniture again.

They totally pack their stuff like shit, but I've always found their customer support to be more than flexible so that generally keeps me going back. I ordered a wood filing cabinet from them like a month ago. Box was torn up and some hardware was missing. By some, I mean the lock. That's it. It would have been nice to not have to chat with them about it and I did my best to keep them from sending me too much landfill material, but try as I might, they sent me WAY too many replacement parts. Like enough that I was half way to another filing cabinet.

My rule of thumb is, don't go to them if you need something fast. However, if you need something that's a good, clear step up from Ikea and can wait, they're usually pretty great and you'll often get free stuff without much hassle. I swear, it's like their customer support is paid for incidents closed with no regard to how much it costs them ion the end. I guess when they compete with the likes of Amazon who will routinely landfill 90% of the stuff people return to them, I get it.

I was to pay for the shipping back to them if I went for the full refund which would've been like 1/3 of the actual cost. I just didn't expect the replacement parts to literally take almost 3 months and counting. My friend's order situation is even messier.

That being said, I can imagine them working quite well for smaller shit and knick-knacks. Maybe a smaller storage shelf or something.

I did also order a bed frame from them which had two dents in one part and I didn't even mention that because I can live with it. It's more that the quality is shoddy garbage but that I take 100% responsibility for. You get what you pay for.

PS: The reason I didn't buy any Ikea is because I think their shit is flat-out depressing looking. I can't look at one more of those "square vertical OR horizontal storage shelf!" things.
