Don't you have a pretty decent laptop?  Because it's 50% off on Steam.

I actually did see that and yes but the PC and console versions are apparently quite different. The PC version appears to be fully point & click while on console you fully control the characters and so on. I wanted to stick to that version because I learned that gameplay style with Shadow Tactics and loved it.

Thanks for the tip though either way!

PC version has controller support so I would gather you could control it the same way as the console.

Keep waiting for a sale on Desperados III but might just buy that at full price now, screw it.

Its really good, one of my favorites of last year.

I really want a shadow tactics sale now.

Edit: Shadow Tactics is on deep discount in this sale! Awesome!

I wonder if the controller ends up moving the mouse cursor though. But actually I just checked the Steam page and there's a demo, guess I'm trying that tonight. Thanks for the tip.

Shadow Tactics is a phenomenal game, it really is. I'm sure Desperados III is a refined take on that formula so maybe it's slightly rougher around the edges but it's one of the few games I learned, beat (which was hard enough) and then immediately restarted on Hardcore difficulty. Then I beat that and went back to try for speedruns which I've also never done.

The setting is amazing and highly atmospheric, the aesthetics are gorgeous and the gameplay just feels airtight. The controls can be a bit finnicky but it's still a 9.5/10 game for me, if not a 10. It's worth every penny and I can't wait for the DLC.

Desperados 3 already got dlc, so im not holding my breath on Shadow Tactics. But I just bought it for 5$, so I know what im doing today.

And I definitely understand waiting for a sale, but Desperados 3 is well worth full price.

They actually announced it for this year, the Shadow Tactics DLC I mean. It's called Aiko's Choice and is apparently a standalone expansion, not sure how meaty.

I considered just buying the Playstation version at full price just to support them honestly, they make amazing games and they can't be hot sellers.

Sale ends in 4 hours so you better try quick!

Or if I was nice maybe I could try out the demo for you and report back. :p

EDIT: That being said controller support for a game generally does not mean moving a mouse cursor around with a controller.

Thanks I appreciate it but I think I'll end up just getting it the PS, I prefer the convenience anyway and I think I actually wanna give them my money.

Man, im loving this. Which is no surprise, I love Desperados too.

Its easy to tell this game was made first, Desperados is a little more refined, but this game is brilliant.

I bought Desperados III full price last night as well actually. Didn't get to play yet because the Returnal addiction is real but yeah. I'm glad you like it, it's utterly fantastic. It even has a cool story and more importantly really endearing characters you get to like. Rarely happens to me with games. I also suggest playing with English dub, not the Japanese...it's pretty terrible.

PS: I don't know if Desperados has the "Shadow Mode" system where you cue up characters actions and then execute them all with one button push but if not, mess around with that early on. It becomes somewhat crucial later...and it's exciting as fuck to see it work out too.

Yup, Desperados has it. Its actually a little easier to use than in Shadow Tactics. Enjoy, because Desperados has amazing characters as well.

I'm living rent-free in your head now and I love it.

Don't be :salt: ; you have the advantage of living at home to find a PS5 easily, and then said grapes won't be so sour!

I’m waiting for the PS5 Pro Directors Cut Limited Edition system

So 'waiting' is what salty people say when they're angry about not finding what they want.

and Directors Cut is what people say when they are desperately trying to justify not finding any new games they want for their $500 paper weight dust magnet

The slew of fantastic games I've played lately is ridiculous. Desperados III is basically impeccable, especially gameplay design wise.

It's not too fantastic when you're angry you can't find one. :p Every time he complains after throwing a fit that he couldn't find one (which transitioned to, whatever, nothing to play!), I'm reminded of the wolf and grapes tale.

Also, now I googled Desperados III because that got lost in the 2020 shuffle. What's that like?

This is a dangerous question because Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, its spiritual predecessor, was my near-Returnal-levels obsession recently. I wrote about it quite a bit on here but don't think many people played it. They're both games I assume fare much better with the PC crowd...and just checking, they both have 10/10 ratings on Steam with 'Overwhelmingly Positive' for both. They're very niche I'd say and a new genre for me entirely. I could rant about it for a long time BUT good thing is both games have Playstation demos. Desperados is a bit more polished I guess so maybe try that first but ultimately they're virtually the same all around.

The devs themselves call it hardcore tactical stealth or something. Basically you have a set of characters that all have their strengths, weaknesses and skills and the levels, which are like beautiful diorama playgrounds, are meticulously designed around that. The idea is that you use them all in tandem in some capacity and use team work to overcome the overwhelming odds. There is no direct combat, everything is a planned strategic approach basically and especially on my first tries in Shadow Tactics, a level could easily take me like 2 hours or more on my first try. The games take patience, planning and trial-and-error is definitely baked into its design. You can constantly quick-save though, and the game encourages it actively, so it's not an issue.

The level designs, gameplay mechanics, tone, atmosphere, it's all just top notch stuff. The one big thing that'll take getting used to is the VERY unconventional camera. The levels look like dioramas and you kind of rotate the camera around it as if you were a person hovering over the board if that makes sense. It feels super weird at first and took me a while to get used to. That and sometimes the button prompts can get confusing in the heat of the moment and cause fuckups. Other than that, I have literally zero gripes. I'm not far into Desperados III yet but already, this is just an amazing game.

Edit: Also wanna add how playful and just how detailed these games are. The levels are stuffed with fun details like for example being able to cause 'accidents' that won't raise enemy alarms. Stuff like tricking several guards into the path of a cart that has its wheels locked on top of the hill, then having your other character positioned by said cart and pushing it down the hill, running over all of them at once. Certain enemy types won't fall for your tricks while others will, you can throw shit at animals which in turn will get pissed off and take out a nearby guard in a rage etc.
