It's no secret that I'm an atheist but this does not seem like a compelling argument at all. A lot of people's religious beliefs come from what they feel is true about the world as a starting point. So lets take that starting point that you believe a God something like the Christian God exists. From that belief you may be inclined to believe that some miraculous events did in indeed occur in human history. But that belief in itself in no way demands you also believe some very specific religion and interpretation largely constructed over hundreds of years is an absolute perfect reflection of the prior events and the ultimate will of God. It's very easy to believe that there could have been some things lost and others inserted into churches for arbitrary reasons. In fact the diversity of churches that all supposedly come from the some place kind of requires that this has happened to some extent. So obviously I think neither relaxed beliefs in God nor strict adherence to some specific church are correct, but neither is on a stronger ground than the other either.

A big disappointment for my wife, because the Fable series is one of her all-time favorite game series. -

Interesting. Skyrim was released on 11/11/11; this one is then exactly 11 years later on 11/11/22. -

I want to play the expansion, but I refuse to until I get my PS5, which means I'm probably going to be waiting another year given the current trend. -
El Salvador makes Bitcoin legal tender
legend replied to Remarkableriots's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
I think the argument is massive energy consumption just to play the speculation game is a net loss for humanity, regardless of whether it's comparatively clean to other energy generation schemes and regardless of whether a few powerful actors benefit. -

That big games are still keeping last gen alive right now isn't terribly surprising. I would not have wanted to start a big project that *demands* the new hardware until you were really sure what that hardware was and how you could lean on it. Developers will probably need time to get a feel for it before they go big. My guess is we'll see next-gen demanding games start showing up in 2023 -- long enough to have had a feel for the console and develop the game.

terminator is pro capitalist propaganda/robots are the answer not the end
legend replied to stepee's topic in The Shower
Read the I, Robot series (not that fucking movie!). Robots are ultimately dedicated saviors and champions of humanity. That said, Terminator 2 pulled it back some and dealt with robot and man cooperating. -

PC Rumor: Valve working on handheld Steam console
legend replied to Brian's topic in The Spawn Point
I feel like they'll drop support for it, or just let it languish. Much like the steam controller (which I otherwise liked a lot) I wonder if you can setup streaming on a Raspberry Pi. Plenty of people have built switch-like Pis. If there's a good streaming software solution then that might work? I think Steam itself supports PC to PC streaming already. Not sure it works on a Pi though. This seems to suggest it's possible (except replace TV with some other small form factor screen for the Pi): How to Use a Raspberry Pi and Steam Link to Stream PC Games to Your TV WWW.PCMAG.COM Valve may have discontinued the hardware, but you can still can use the Steam Link app on your Raspberry Pi system to stream games to your TV or anywhere else. -
In all seriousness though, I think there is a good way to make that work. Core challenge is one thing, but souls games also ratchet up the effective difficulty by having spaced out checkpoints/savepoints which is a divisive approach that need not be adopted to make a good game. Of course, Square tends to like spaced out savepoints, so maybe they'll make it mechanically easier before they abandon that

Well if you personally think it's evil that's one thing. There are issues with the pornographic industry that I could maybe sympathize with for having a distaste for it. But masturbation is not the same thing as pornography and not all pornography is the same. So I don't quite see how you can get there to banning yourself from all masturbation. Self control to stop yourself from doing something that will ultimately hurt you or others more than it will gain you in the short term is a good trait. Self control for self controls sake is kind of pointless though If I were you, I would search why you think it's "evil" and see if you can really justify that belief. And I suggest that because beating yourself up over pointless things is going to have a negative net effect on your mental health. It will make you feel bad for no reason. So seriously think about just why you think it's evil. Better yet, lose words like "evil" from the equation altogether. When people start thinking about what is "evil" or "moral" it has a tendency to cause people to just lean on their preconceived notions of what good and bad is, without investigation into those very notions. Instead ask yourself who is harmed by you masturbating. Work from there.
