  1. Hey, getting more exploration and people on Mars is actually one of the few things I agree with Musk about -- even if I don't want to live there in my lifetime.
  2. Naa not me. But maybe in the not too distant future you all will get to see some of the stuff I've been doing.
  3. Now I'm starting to get pissed at the snowflakes of Wallstreet and may have to participate in this shit show out of spite. (I mean, they were always bad, but this is some horseshit even for them.)
  4. I don't understand how our society functions. :: Looks out window to pandemic wasteland :: Oh yeah, it doesn't.
  5. Haha maybe. It's already been a million years political time, so it will be hard to find where I read it. I'd be curious to see what their reasoning was though.
  6. But I mean why was it enough to only flip one of the Georgia senators to change majority leader? That is what I kept reading, but if what you're saying is true, then it seems like we would have needed to flip both (which we did of course, but that didn't seem to be what I was reading).
  7. Well now I'm a bit confused. My understanding is in Georgia we only need one of the senators to flip blue to make Chuck majority leader by making a tie that the VP broke. But we got both, which should have given us a lead. So what part of the calculus was wrong or what made it special?
  8. The article suggests that if she steps down, Dems lose control of the Senate, but (1) don't they still maintain it by the VP breaking the tie? And (2) how long would it actually take to get a new Senator appointed by the Governor? Newsom is a democrat, so presumably he would appoint a democrat.
  9. Gsync and HDMI 2.1 VRR works out of the box now (well, I guess you might need to update the firmware depending on what it was built, but it's an over-the-air update). Not sure about Freesync though. If AMD supports HDMI 2.1 VRR in addition to free-sync then you would be set with that. Not sure if their cards do that.
  10. Most things are already rigged in the GOP's favor so of course it's in their interest to obstruct change. Since they're so bad at governing, it also always gives them the convenient scape goat of "Well we couldn't get things done because of the damn democrats" (even when that's not true) and no one has any reason to hold their feet to the fire. Fucking get rid of it and let people be held accountable for their policies, good or bad. We're only going to make progress by actually trying things.
  11. Damn. Gonna feel weird. He's be around--and old--my entire life. RIP
  12. FWIW, I do appreciate how weird that would feel I don't know if this is true, but I think shady intrusions like this are more plausible than actively listening to voice.
  13. P-values are the devil But I think we can probably work out what sufficient demonstrations of control would be for anyone that want's to articulate what they think the scope of the effect is.
  14. Let me also say this: if you think it's listening all the time and displaying ads right afterwards, it should be really easy for you to test this hypothesis and we'd also have really strong evidence of its existence already as a consequence.
  15. I'm not a security guy either, but when you control the networking software *and* the network, you can customize exactly what is allowed and on what channels. You can even encrypt your data transfer directly to other known systems with only locally stored credentials.
  16. I'm going to go with no *especially* not without it being extremely transparent with hard evidence being produced of its existence. There are plenty of reports of weird observations in evidence of divine miracles too
  17. This doesn't really address my objection to it Life is filled with bizarre seeming coincidences even when there aren't reasons for them to be correlated. It would be more unlikely that you never experienced any and people are really good at noticing when they occur. Even with Mario, there is probably still better correlated information for why that kind of ad is something they would display to you, and every once in awhile a hit will feel oddly timely. Simply put, I just don't think remarking on the times you've observed something weird like that is good evidence when faced against the reasons it isn't likely to be realistic. Of course, there are plenty of other reasons we can declare Facebook a villain
