  1. There is entirely, entirely, entirely, too much handwringing at WBD about a shared DC continuity. This has been an issue with DC comics since at least 1985 and it's wild to me that it's gotten to this point with the movies and TV shows and games and all of that. You're not going to be able to just... will people to care about a shared DCCU. Marvel caught lightning in a bottle, emulating that isn't going to work. Not as many people care about the continuity as these studios seem to think. I can think of 10 people who have played a live action Batman since I've been alive, meaning it changes on average every 4 years or so. This shit just doesn't matter to the average person who's interested in going to see superheroes punch one another on the big screen. Maybe figure out why the Guardians of the Galaxy, who fucking nobody had heard of before that movie came out, made more money than Justice League, or why Thor Ragnarok made more money than Man of Steel. Getting James Gunn is a start I suppose. But from what he's said it seems like his plan is to try to boil the ocean too, which probably isn't going to work.
  2. Nobody should take Musk at his word on literally anything. I’m pretty sure publishing publicly available flight information is specifically protected by the first amendment.
  3. What do you mean by "doesn't work"? My understanding was always if you put someone who hasn't seen video content before in front of a 24 fps and HFR presentation, they might have a preference, but the notion that 24 fps is "filmic" is just conditioning.
  4. Between Mbappe’s handling and the deflection there’s just nothing that could have been done about that.
  5. I dunno how much subtext there is in a movie where the monster occasionally looks like a camera /lens and is literally chewing up auteurs and spitting them out.
  6. I do wonder about the extent to which COVID hit a “sweet spot” of dangerous enough to justify the lockdowns while we were fearing the worst, never deadly enough to cause the general public to REALLY shit bricks. If people were bleeding out of the eyes and drying in the streets, I assume some of these people would shut up? Hopefully we never know.
  7. The only thing I want DeSantis to launch is himself into the indifferent sun.
  8. “Studios stop making live action versions of games that are already cinematic” challenge
  9. Pretty sure gimmie god of war is the hardest and you need to unlock it… gimmie no mercy is the hardest available from jump / second hardest overall, also what I say when someone asks me what N64 wrestling game I want to play
  10. The fact that this is the brainchild of Marco Rubio should give everyone pause.
  11. In hindsight I think some of the weaknesses of ME1 and DA:O is that their influences are just so, so, so transparent. Some of the scenes in DA:O look like they’re just straight up lifted from the Lord of the Rings movies, with the soundtrack being close to cribbed as well. I feel Ike in the original ME there’s a lot of, “look, we’re doing the things,” from a lot of sci-fi classics. They get more of their own vibes later to varying degrees. Fun thread!
  12. I have no idea, that’s an amusing notion. But the more I think about it, honestly, given Jackman’s theater bona fides… just make this a stage musical. I think it could be legitimately great!
  13. The third one is going to be Ellie fighting against the woke mind virus which has all the infected dancing like they’re in the Thriller video.
  14. If Reynolds hadn’t just done a musical, I’d say the funniest, most unexpected thing for them to do would be to have Deadpool be the first G rated MCU musical. Honestly, fuck it, it should be a filmed stage production like the Disney+ presentation of Hamilton.
  15. Just get hold fast tattooed on your knuckles and give Rian Johnson his trilogy you absolute cowards. Or let Knives Out 3 just be the exact same cast as The Last Jedi. I demand one or both of these things.
  16. It's been a thing for a while longer than 10 years; Carlin made the observation way back when and he's not the first. But I'd agree that it's caught on more recently particularly online. I think jokes that punch down can be funny, a lot of it is content, tone, and delivery. There are funny jokes and observations to be made about trans people and the experience of being trans. Someone as talented as Chappelle is probably equipped to write and deliver them. But he's decided it's funnier to get a rise out of people by saying he's on team terf, or to have an SNL monologue where he puts the thinnest veneer on the positively ancient, "Jews run Hollywood," bit, so... that's what we're left to talk about. Maybe in hindsight we shouldn't have expected more from someone who thought it was funny to have a draft to determine whether Tiger Woods was black OR Asian? Who knows. Regardless, i assume this is a largely online phenomenon, as Chappelle still packs people in, CK is getting Emmys, etc. This is fucking dumb, nobody is trying to censor Chappelle. Fans clapping back at comedians is not the same as censorship, he's at no risk of being deplatformed, he could show up at any comedy club and be given the stage, his checks from Netflix have 8 digits before we get to cents. Stop. On behalf of white people... we CAN do better and we almost certainly WON'T do better. My woke-ometer started blowing up once people other than white people started posting ITT, and if confirmation bias muscles were physical and not mental I'd be fucking SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE
