  1. In what world does Aloy look masculine, I just don't understand the complaint at all. I know there's a non-trivial segment of gamers that mod the women in every major game to give them a "built for speed in late 90's / early 00's era porn" look, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut Aloy doesn't look masculine? At all?
  2. Yeah. It’s weird to see some of the stories from comics borderline copy/pasted into movies without having the authors of the original stories credited or compensated in a meaningful way. I appreciate there’s an extent to which nobody writing comics 15 years ago knew the extent to which the MCU was going to completely change the game and that B and C tier characters in terms of sales were going to become the cornerstone of billion dollar franchises. And comics in general have always had this problem with the initial creators of characters getting paid or even properly credited.
  3. I love Spider-Man 1 and 2, I really loved Dafoe as the Green Goblin (I maintain that the final fight between Spidey / GG at the end of Spider-Man is one of the few that really shows the hero in true peril), but… I’m not sure if I want this? I feel kinda the same way I do about having the X-Men come into the MCU, I worry at some point it’ll just be too much. I guess we’ll see where Phase 4 ends up heading in general, some of the revealed projects have the potential for Thanos style heavy hitters, bringing in whole other universes into that is gonna be a tough balancing act.
  4. One might, Ford doesn’t Kidding aside as someone who ordered a chase vehicle from Ford a few years back, I didn’t have to give them $100 this early!
  5. Motherfucker doesn’t even try aside from giving the Triwizard winnings to Fred and George.
  6. A muffin and a loaf of bread are baking in an oven. The muffin says, “sure is hot in here.” Then the loaf of bread says, “HOLY SHIT, A TALKING MUFFIN???”
  7. I’d wager it’s to keep the chassis consistent with existing F150s for both functional and aesthetic reasons. Little dick syndrome aside, it makes sense to keep it looking like the most popular vehicle in the country.
  8. Ford has a great fucking scam going on with this car, where if you want to be put on the waiting list to maybe buy the F150, you have to give them $100. It’s refundable, so if you end up not getting one, they give you the $100 back, and if you buy the car, it’s applied to the price. But it’s a great way for Ford to get loans from marks. Marks like me.
  9. Looks really good. Did Aloy talk to herself that much in the original? I can’t remember. It was funny that she did that underwater, I assumed she was speaking aloud but I guess not.
  10. I mean that only in relation to what Riley said, the claim that the most exciting thing about a franchise is what happens next. Before they came out we knew by the end of them that Anakin would be Vader, that Sheev would be Emperor, etc. They were still exciting (potentially, anyway, before we knew what they’d be ) even though we knew where things would end up. Same with Rogue One, the only thing that could happen to the majority of allegedly important characters we’d never heard about before was for them to die, but the movie was still fun. Also my use of “the narrative” was wrong, I meant in terms of when they were released.
  11. The less work the GOP does, the more their base loves them, it’s a good job if you can get it.
  12. Again, the OT started with a love triangle that involved characters who ended up being twins and retconning characters to be liars despite having no narrative reason to be that way, and those are still the high point in the series. Or on the other side of that coin, the MOST planned Star Wars content were the prequels and those were not great. I believe JJ is sincere when he says that lacking a plan was problematic, I just think he’s wrong based on almost all long-running fiction NOT needing one, along with his output having issues when everything’s contained in one movie. EDIT - I’m pretty sure the early drafts of ESB didn’t include Vader being Luke’s father, if that’s not evidence that “a plan” isn’t strictly necessary, I don’t know what is.
  13. I can’t imagine a franchise with a narrative I’m less interested in seeing a movie adaptation of than Portal.
  14. I think it’s technically Pokémon. I don’t know how true this is. Nothing that happened in The Prequels, Rogue One, Clone Wars, Rebels, or The Mandalorian “mattered” given where they happened in the narrative, but they’re beloved. Make shit that people like and people will show up. This is how so much storytelling works though. DC doesn’t have a plan for how Batman comics are going to go beyond the current arc, different comics come out with the same character all the time and they don’t acknowledge one another, and it’s fine. This insistence that something like Star Wars needs to have a plan in order to be good is really weird.
  15. I mean Paul Ryan planned the heist, executed the heist, then escaped with the loot. Now he’s coming back to the scene of the crime to piss and moan about how the next gang is approaching their caper? Fuck this man.
  16. Confirming that the pixels on my TV weren’t dead was a pleasant distraction from the parts of this movie where zombie heads weren’t getting clicked.
  17. Imagine being so fucking basic as to categorize this as needing “ten good people.”
  18. Paul Ryan is one of the most cowardly motherfuckers in the Republican clique.
  19. Also, I’ll say again… All you need to know about JJ as a storyteller you can get from watching Into Darkness. It relies completely on nostalgia and knowledge from outside the movie to work at all. New Spock has a conversation with Old Spock in which Old Spock says that Khan was their most dangerous enemy (no) and tells New Spock the secret to defeating Khan and then they cut away from the conversation… then to win the fight, New Spock just hits Khan in the head with a blunt object. JJ is really very good at selling the drama and emotion in scenes, I just wish it was tied to stories that didn’t consistently blow ass.
