Movies Venom: Let there be Carnage Trailer and Discussion Thread
Ghost_MH replied to Pikachu's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
As a character, he's about as rich and complex and Trump's hair in the rain. He's just random violence for violence's sake, alone. He doesn't have a sappy past or some guiding principal. People do like to pretend he's Marvel's Joker, but like the Joker without the supporting cast or elaborate plans. Even comic-accurate Thanos trying to kill half the universe to impress a woman is more interesting than the serial killing symbiote that attached itself to a serial killer and wants nothing more than to continue killing people. Carnage comes from a time when blood, violence, and boobs was enough to sell comics and he hasn't really evolved into more more than that in the lasty thirty or so years. -
My mother had a fourth child they died during child birth some thirty years ago. My mother still talks about her sometimes and remembers her birthday every year. That's forever, and Biden telling folks that even well meaning people don't understand grief, even if they've lost someone is about as understanding as I've ever heard a president get at one of these things. Right wing media will never not find something to complain about. Fuck twisting ourselves in knots to meet some non-existent standard that will never appease them.

For sleeping, I like music and my wife likes having a fan running. The sound of both don't bother me, so it works out. I'm a super light sleeper, so I need the music playing in the background or the sound of like the dog digging at her bed will wake me. Even with the music and the fan running, I'll still wake up to the sound of one of the kids coughing even through closed doors.

They were totally hoping he'd get spooked enough to try to flee giving them "probable cause". -
I'm pretty sure Biden's point here was that even if you did "lose the same" it doesn't really matter because it's not actually the same. Just because I lost my father and grandmother weeks apart a year and a half ago doesn't mean that I really understand someone else who's "lost the same" because there is no such thing as "the same" here because every person is unique and the hole they leave behind is unique, so there's no real understanding here. Everyone in these situations feels the loss, but the loss is as infinitely unique as it is deep.

He brought them up specifically to talk about how nobody can relate to this kind of loss, even if they've experienced a similar loss and are perfectly well meaning. This was the most benign thing ever, but both sides, so the NYT has to report the outage even if nobody in all truth is actually outraged.

GoDaddy boots Texas abortion “whistleblower” site for violating privacy rule ARSTECHNICA.COM GoDaddy gave website "24 hours to move to a different provider." The Texas site is going to have to find a new host. Apparently, the entire purpose of the site violates GoDaddy's terms of service. I actually hadn't considered this and it may be a problem for them looking to host this elsewhere. I guess they could always go to Epik and join the likes of Gab and 8chan.

As I said in another thread here, Americans are incapable of self-reflection. 99% of the right is too wrapped up in American exceptionalism, as is like 90% of the left and it's only that low because there are a bunch of African Americans mixed in there. James Loewen died like a week ago and nobody noticed because nobody remembered Lies My Teacher Told Me because nobody actually cares about the white-tinted glasses this nation wears outside of limp wristed complaints on social media. Remember that thread about schools banning books about America's racist history because CRT? Yeah, I didn't until now because you know, abortion and Afghanistan and COVID and what were we even talking about? Anyone know if any of those banned books were pulled out of the fire after social media "outrage"? Anyone even remember which books schools were banning?

And for anyone that wants to read about this instead. They Hacked McDonald’s Ice Cream Machines—and Started a Cold War | WIRED WWW.WIRED.COM Secret codes. Legal threats. Betrayal. How one couple built a device to fix McDonald’s notoriously broken soft-serve machines—and how the fast-food giant froze them out. This is a wild story.

Cop gets to keep his job even after it became public that had a picture of Hitler hung up in his locker. He gets to keep it because there aren't enough members of the town council who think it's problematic. Cool. Massachusetts town says it can't fire officer for Hitler pic that hung in his locker for decades WWW.BOSTON.COM Officer Craig Eichhammer has said he hung the photo to make fun of a fellow officer who resembled Hitler. -
Ha! Dems will agree to not go after phone records on the promise that the targets will testify before the committee...not under oath...then they'll just never show up. Dems will bitch about rule of law at some pointless press conference that captures the attention of like twenty people and every conservative talking head will praise these Republicans for not taking part in the farse to their audience of 10s of millions.

Looks like there are a bunch of Massachusetts school districts that are planning to ignore the order to not offer any remote learning this coming school year. 7 Massachusetts School Districts To Offer Full-Time Remote Learning To Students This Fall BOSTON.CBSLOCAL.COM Thirteen districts applied to the state to start remote learning academies. Seven will welcome students this fall. Sounds like they're getting around the no remote order by opening new "schools" that are fully remote that any parent can send their kids to.
