  1. I think it got worse with Halo 4 onwards, but I feel (having just played through Halo 1 and Halo 2 Anniversary) that you absolutely need to know the books (at least the aforementioned ones in my previous post). They aren't required to enjoy those games of course (I didn't read the books, just played the games when they came out and yeah, I was confused), but if you just go from Halo 1 and where it ends right into Halo 2 without knowing anything about Halo: First Strike, a lot doesn't make sense given where Halo 1 ended. That's just as a for instance. This is even more apparent if you go right into Halo 3 from Halo 2 as well. At least it still felt that way to me when I did it recently (I went back and that's how I know about these books now in the first place).
  2. I mean, as annoying as it is, Halo novels have always been a part of Halo's lifeblood. There were aspects of Halo 1 and a lot of aspects of Halo 2 that aren't filled out/don't make sense unless you read Eric Nylund's Halo: The Fall of Reach (to understand Halo 1 better) and Eric Nylund's Halo: First Strike, which really helps fill out Halo 2. Halo 3 and particularly Halo: Reach are made even better if you've read those two books as well as Eric Nylund's Halo: Ghosts of Onyx , Joseph Staten's Halo: Contact Harvest, and Tobias Buckell's Halo: The Cole Protocol. Halo Wars 1 also makes more sense if you've read Contact Harvest Hell, even the graphic novels/comic book series have always been important. To understand what happens between Halo 2 and Halo 3 better, you should read Brian Michael Bendis' Halo: Uprising. And if you want to understand Halo 3: ODST better, one should read Peter David's Halo: Helljumper. Halo Wars 1 additionally benefits from reading Brian Michael Bendis' Halo Wars: Genesis. And this is all under Bungie and Microsoft, before Microsoft and 343i took over the brand in 2010/2011 and that's when shit exploded in terms of novels, etc. But yeah, it's always been integral from the start. Again, that's if you cared about Halo's story, characters, backstory, and mythology in the first place. Which, I do, as a sci-fi and space opera fan, even though Halo has gone off the rails since Halo 4 in my opinion in terms of story. But I've always hated cross-media stuff. It should fill in small gaps and broaden the universe, not be necessary to understand the bigger picture of the main Halo trilogy story you're trying to tell (and then ODST and Reach). My suggestion? Read the Halopedia wiki recap summaries at this point and play the games as they each fit into the chronology.
  3. I hadn't heard that - definitely interested in seeing this new studio open up. I also think they will join the fold - I've always been surprised they didn't in the past (similar to Insomniac). I am also similarly thrilled! As a huge fan of the original two Getaway games (from 2002 and 2004), I say do it! I haven't played it because I don't have VR (yet) but I've heard good things about the game. I've waited for SIE London Studio to make a sequel (or spiritual sequel, in this case) ever since and we finally got one. That it's the best reviewed of the three games makes it even more enticing. As much as I love God of War, I do wish SIE San Diego Studio would go back to The Mark of Kri - I really liked that game. I know a different company made a sequel, Rise of the Kasai, but it was a good bit worse since it wasn't made by SIE San Diego. At least we got Blood & Truth.
  4. Direct quotes? I mean, this was the news over the months and years as both BvS and then Justice League came out. This was the chatter, and this is how I remembered it. I don't care enough to go back and find links from years ago about WB's disappointment with this or that to prove anything to you, since I've never seen you admit you're wrong once you are entrenched with your position, and your poor writing skills continue to make it difficult to suss out your meaning in posts as well as your standoff-ish tone with your random ellipses and caps. Believe what you want, I don't really care enough to prove my point further, as I thought what I was saying was generally understood to be true. @TwinIon thinking the same things I do (to a degree) bears this out. I have better things to do than get into yet another pedantic fight with you about something you are convinced you already know, it's not worth the time it would take even if I did succeed in convincing you. So let's just agree to disagree, and I can move on with my life then.
  5. WB execs and the world at large don't think BvS is a flop. I never said the word flop. I said it underperformed (which it did), which WB perceived as a failure, not a flop. You're being pedantic. to say: "it underperformed but wasn't a colossal failure". Okay, as I said, splitting hairs on verbiage. Point is it was a bad movie, a massive, colossal failure critically, and it underperformed commercially according to WB's projections as I recall at the time, and thus was considered not a flop but a failure by WB, hence their close oversight of Snyder on Justice League, which is clearly apparent was the case.
  6. SIE Santa Monica Studio typically releases a full game every 3-4 years on average, so we could theoretically expect God of War 2 between April 2021 and April 2022. The only reasons I see Fall/Winter 2021 not happening is due to delays thanks to Covid-19 and the generational leap to the PS5. But in theory, according to their past track record of releases, they should be able to do it.
  7. Okay, that's really not how BvS is generally perceived, but okay. I think WB expected a good bit more, both critically and commercially, but technically yes, you are correct. A bit pedantic, I'd say, since most people do indeed view BvS as a colossal failure in a critical sense, and a failure in terms of not meeting projections, in a commercial sense.
  8. The link proves that it's in dispute, which is all I was ever saying from the start - that him leaving production was a possible cover. Believe it or not, but it makes a lot of sense to me at least. I think WB execs expected the movie to do Avengers money and at least break $1 billion worldwide theatrically. We're getting a Snyder cut for a lot of different reasons, but it's not because Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were critically lauded and made more than their franchises should expect to make. It's for other reasons.
  9. Just for parity's sake with the same list in the Xbox Series X thread, here's the current list of what all of Sony's first party studios are up to, for those who want to keep it straight: -SIE Japan Studio: Astro's Playroom -Polyphony Digital: Gran Turismo 7 -Guerilla Games: Horizon Forbidden West -Insomniac Games: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales; Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart -SIE San Diego Studio: MLB The Show '21 -SIE Santa Monica Studio: God of War 2 (most likely) -Clap Hanz: Everybody's Golf 2 (most likely) -Bluepoint Games: Demon's Souls remake (not a first party studio but still kind of counts) -Housemarque: Returnal (not a first party studio but still kind of counts) -Sucker Punch: just released Ghost of Tsushima (July 2020) -Naughty Dog: just released The Last of Us Part II (June 2020) -Media Molecule: just released Dreams (February 2020) -Pixelopus: just released Concrete Genie (October 2019) -SIE London Studio: just released Blood & Truth VR (May 2019) -SIE Bend Studio: just released Days Gone (April 2019) And there you have it. Bolded studios are ones who we don't know what they're working on yet (if anything). I'm most definitely interested in Horizon Forbidden West, God of War 2, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and the Demon's Souls remake. Depending on reviews, I'd also be very into Returnal. But with six studios with no currently announced games, there's still a lot to hear from. I'm sure others are excited for Gran Turismo 7 (racing fans) and Everybody's Golf 2 (golfing fans) and for MLB The Show '21 (baseball fans) and Ratchet & Clank (for Ratchet & Clank fans).
  10. I didn't say it was a flop. I said WB perceived Batman v Superman as a failure. It's right there on its Wikipedia page, and I remember lots of talk at the time that it was too late to right the ship for Justice League since it had just begun production at BvS's theatrical release. This isn't crazy news. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_League_(film)#Post-production
  11. Nice, these news updates help! We'll see if any of these rumors/rumblings come to fruition. I have played Contrast, and I actually loved it as an indie PS4 launch game. It didn't get good reviews at the time, but I think it deserved better reviews than it got for its style, music, and atmosphere. We Happy Few, yeah, that wasn't so good but there's potential with the company. I love most if not all the companies Microsoft bought up, so I'm hoping all these new games/IP's get good reviews and word of mouth, I'll definitely play them if they do, it's just many of the games right now are unknown quantities (whereas Gears 6 and Hellblade II are known quantities) so I'm hoping for the best with all the ones I named that I'm interested in. I mean, Avowed, Fable, and Everwild could be really good. Psychonauts 2 probably will be too. Halo Infinite and Age of Empires IV will need to prove they are really good iterations of their respective franchises before I jump in. I don't do racing games so no Forza for me, and I didn't play State of Decay 1 or 2 so no interest in 3. I also don't really do online multiplayer so Frostpoint and Grounded are also out for me. But I imagine racing, State of Decay, and online multiplayer gaming fans are amped for those games. It's a solid lineup, and Microsoft no longer cares where you buy their shit, it's great.
  12. It doesn't matter whether Batman v Superman made enough money or not. WB saw it as a failure regardless (whether it actually was one or not), both clearly critically (and underperforming, for their expectations, commercially) and they got involved heavily with Justice League's production as a result since it was Snyder behind the helm again. The rest is moot to debate.
  13. I mean, Derek Kolstad wrote three great John Wick movies (and the mediocre movie The Package), but he's also writing on the pretty mediocre Quibi series Die Hart. He's also a staff writer on the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. I'm certainly interested in a Splinter Cell series, and it could work better in animation, but it'll all depend on the animation studio and directors.
  14. Same, I loved both Human Revolution (Director's Cut) and Mankind Divided. And the Tomb Raider trilogy (the first two by Crystal Dynamic, the third by Eidos-Montreal) was also solid. A real shame. We haven't even seen a new Legacy of Kain in ages and we got one new Thief reboot and that's it. And now years between all of this just spent solely on Marvel's Avengers?
  15. Yeah indeed, perhaps too many cooks in the kitchen or something. Or Marvel mandate, etc.
  16. I gotta be honest, FF7R didn't impress me that much, and it was only the "plot characters" that got good models and mo-cap and animations. And I really liked the game, ending included! The backgrounds and environments were pretty average. I actually think Square's Luminous Engine for FF15 is way more impressive than FF7R's modified Unreal Engine 4. To be fair, I played FF15 in 4K on PC (the Royal edition) whereas I played FF7R on a PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV. But let's not forget, FF15 was also open-world and FF7R was primarily small towns/areas and corridors connected to boxed battle arenas. FF15 was also a full game with a wide range of environments, whereas FF7R was not. It'll be interesting to see how the PC version of FF7R ultimately turns out.
  17. Anyone else think this project is just a huge waste of talent, time, and resources? To have both Crystal Dynamics (Legacy of Kain, Tomb Raider) and Eidos-Montreal (Deus Ex, Thief) and their respective satellite studios, Crystal Northwest and Eidos-Sherbrooke, all under the Square Enix Europe banner (formerly Eidos Interactive), ALL working on this one game for years? I just don't know. We could have had a good new Tomb Raider and Deus Ex game by now separately, rather than . . . this.
  18. I meant, like, in that it was a bad movie, and WB execs tried to right the ship with Justice League in the midst of production. I didn't mean in terms of box office (though I believe WB expected the movie to make more than it even did).
  19. Since Wasteland 3 comes out in just a few weeks, inXile Entertainment has announced one of their new games, Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds (a multiplayer VR shooter, team-based, PvPvE and definitely not my thing). This doesn't sound like the game @JPDunks4 was referring too, which definitely seems to be coming (since Frostpoint comes out just later this year). As a result, here's an updated list of what Microsoft's first party studios are up to: -343 Industries: Halo Infinite -The Coalition: Gears of War 6 (most likely) -Double Fine: Psychonauts 2 -inXile Entertainment: Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds; untitled triple AAA RPG -Ninja Theory: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II -Obsidian Entertainment: Avowed; Grounded -Playground Games: Fable -Rare: Everwild -Turn 10 Studios: Forza Motorsport -Undead Labs: State of Decay 3 -World’s Edge: Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition (with Tantalus Media) -Relic Entertainment: Age of Empires IV (not a first party studio but still kind of counts) -Compulsion Games: ????? -The Initiative: ????? -Mojang Studios: just released Minecraft Dungeons I took Wasteland 3 off of the list since it has been essentially released now. It's a solid slate of games, many unproven but could turn out really good. I'm definitely in for Gears 6 and Hellblade II at least. Depending on reviews and word of mouth, I may also be in for Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2, Avowed, Fable, Everwild, and Age of Empires IV. That's a pretty good turn out for me personally.
  20. The idea sounds great. And an original film to boot. I'm tentatively in!
  21. He left after principal photography had finished, just no pick-up shots/reshoots were done yet. His daughter committed suicide in March 2017, he left the production in May 2017, and the movie came out in November 2017. So it wasn't that long between when he left the movie and it came out (just 8 months). And let's be clear, Snyder leaving the production due to his daughter's suicide is just a cover - he was forced out, with that being the excuse, once test screenings were done and WB execs hated it (though they may not have been in the right mind, wanting the opposite of Batman v Superman at the time due to its colossal failure). You don't wait two months after your daughter's suicide to leave production - you'd have left right away. WB had also ultimately mandated a film under two hours, which won't happen here. Yeah, this.
  22. It looks great, I agree. But it's a tough choice for me, it's art syle accounts for its beauty as much as the technical aspect to it (in good ways). Like, I would say in terms of in-game character animations and clipping and mo-cap, Death Stranding (modified Decimus engine), FF15 (Luminous engine), RE2Remake + RE3Remake (the RE engine), and The Last of Us Part II have it beat. But the art style and breadth of visual colors that pop overcome the slightly less technical visual marvel to make it all look really good overall. But in terms of pure visual engine that impresses me the most, Sucker Punch's engine is great (I see a lot of improvements on what Infamous: Second Son started) but not sure which engine is my favorite yet.
  23. I think he definitely means anything shot after he left production. Anything done under him, even second unit, I imagine he'll definitely include. He just won't include anything that was done under Whedon, even second unit under Whedon, is what he means I think.
