General Entertainment Just watched Legend.
Greatoneshere replied to best3444's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Yeah I mean I get people who enjoy the Tangerine Dream one, especially those who grew up with it, but with the extra footage to go along with it, you do get more film which is nice with the director's cut version. -
General Entertainment Just watched Legend.

I prefer the director's cut of Legend with Ridley Scott's preferred director's cut version which restores 25 minutes of footage to the film and restores composer Jerry Goldsmith's original soundtrack for the film (Scott's intended soundtrack for the film), rather than the studio-replaced Tangerine Dream soundtrack. Which version did you watch? -
Movies The Abyss 4K Remaster in Theaters December 6th
Greatoneshere replied to Keyser_Soze's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Exactly. The AI upscaling here is a more advanced form of DNR (or digital noise reduction) that would be used for film transfers in the past. Now, this can be easily misapplied (anyone remember the first pressings of the Gladiator bluray?) but so long as the film 4K colorist/transfer person applies it correctly, then the AI upscaler should be no problem. That aspect is what will always be up for debate (how much is getting rid of film dirt, etc. and how much is getting natural blemishes and natural film grain?). James Cameron said the reason these 4K's took so long is that he wanted to be there himself and approve of the transfers before making them and he'd been busy with Avatar for so long, hence the drawn out process. So it could still have been misapplied but if the creator himself thinks it looks good, that's something to take into account. -
Movies The Abyss 4K Remaster in Theaters December 6th

Both releases have AI upscaling used, but this is all Cameron approved and apparently it's moderately implemented. Apparently one suffers a little more than the other but HighDefDigest gave both 4K's 4/5 stars for video so I think it's probably being made to be a bigger deal than it is, but I haven't kept close track. Both certainly look better than any previous release imaginable either way. https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/124729/theabyssce4kuhd.html https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/124733/trueliescollectorsedition4kultrahdbluray.html -
Movies Scream VI - March 10, 2023
Greatoneshere replied to SoberChef's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Writer Kevin Williamson is also back, also directing this time. I don't follow the Scream franchise but the writer of Scream 1, 2 and 4, as well as I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty is back. After everything that's gone down, I have no idea if this will work out or not. -
Here's a quick breakdown here: Grandia on Saturn vs PS1 - insert credit FORUMS.INSERTCREDIT.COM The insert credit forums are a place to talk about video games for anyone who has thought, "but really, who will care about this specific thing I like?" But basically the Saturn version had a better framerate and better graphics/resolution, though the PS1 version had some better aspects compared to the Saturn version as well. And yeah, the PS2 version of Grandia II was noticeably rougher than the Dreamcast version.

I was behind but have finally caught up and watched episodes 3 and 4. This is an excellent adaptation of the book. Not perfect but as good as one could have hoped for. They are absolutely nailing the Marika-Blackthorne relationship and the authenticity with the brutality of that final cannon scene: goddamn. Everyone really needs to be watching this show.

To make it clear to others checking out this thread, this is the already released Grandia HD collection that you can find on PC/Steam from 2019, it's just now they are finally porting it to PS/Xbox. This is the definitive release of Grandia I (combining the best parts of both the Saturn and PS1 versions) and Grandia II (based on the original and best Dreamcast version, not the PS2 or PC ports). It's a shame Grandia III and Grandia Xtreme never got remasters to be added to this collection, at least those got international releases originally so it wouldn't be too hard. Luckily, there's always emulation with mods.

I'm definitely going to play this game, but after Astlibra Revision and FF7: Rebirth I'll probably go play a couple of other kinds of games and then circle back to this.

Not saying they will be better, but I'll wait for the director's cuts for both now: Netflix Likely Getting 6 Hours of Rebel Moon Director's Cut the Same Day, Zack Snyder Says - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder has said the director's cut versions of both it and its sequel will likely hit Netflix the same day.

Playing very old, frequently unavailable or hard to find games, often made by developers and publishers that no longer exist who wouldn't get any of the money from someone buying the game as a resale from someone on Ebay or Amazon anyway, has very little to do with the layoffs currently in the industry. No one is emulating FF7 Rebirth. This isn't a very good argument against emulation.

Television Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Trailer
Greatoneshere replied to skillzdadirecta's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Episode 5 from yesterday was one of the best episodes so far this season, really strong work by the comedy day players (the waiter at the Chinese restaurant and Jenna the girlfriend) with a pretty tight script. Now that it looks like Larry is definitely going to trial over the water bottle incident in Georgia, could we see a repeat of the ending of Seinfeld but done better so Larry can redeem himself in his own eyes about the ending to Seinfeld? Definitely interesting that it's heading in the same direction. -
That's true but it's just an example, I'm not buying a Series X for some OG Xbox backwards compatibility games. I also prefer the variety of emulation options to improve the game over Microsoft's good but sparing backwards compatibility code. I have an 80gb PS3 hardware backwards compatible PS2 and then and now I still prefer and use PCSX2.

It's kind of imperative that if you don't at least do the Chadley stuff, to at least do the side quests on the notice boards per city. With each side quest the game pairs you with one other specific party member (doesn't have to be someone in your combat party) and you'll get dialogue from the other party member while you do the side quest and upon completion your relationship with that party member will deepen, helping your synergy abilities, etc. in combat. So you do get story stuff and gameplay benefits from at least doing the story side quests. I mean, the one involving Broden (the innkeeper in Kalm) is a pretty direct side quest tie-in to a main plot point in the game. I do all the Chadley stuff too as it unlocks, but that's less involved than the notice board side quests. I just did a bunch of stuff in Junon and finished everything in Kalm and the grasslands. Gonna continue finishing Junon stuff.

I mean, you can emulate Xbox and PlayStation games, but Xbox Original, Xbox 360, and PS3 emulation are still in their nascent stages. Many games don't emulate fully or well, for the PS3 emulation it's because of the "emotion engine", not sure why Xbox Original is tough to emulate given it's old but maybe it's because of unique hardware architecture. Xbox 360 is the most surprising since that's just off the shelf PC parts essentially. My point being it is far easier to emulate Wii/Wii U/Switch games on your PC than it is Xbox OG/Xbox 360/PS3 games on your PC by a wide margin (I say this as someone who emulates frequently). Not sure about PS4/Xbox One emulation, never tried.

It's not, but you don't read a lot of my posts so you probably wouldn't know.

S'all good, I just want an unlocked hard mode like most games have, not sure why Square Enix the last few years decided to gate keep it behind New Game Plus.
