Television Ted Lasso Season 3, to air March 15

I’m no expert on UK racism, I just thought the Poland thing was weird. -

It's maybe a huge stretch but anti-Polish sentiment is pretty big in the sphere of UK politics that Rupert probably represents. Upon meeting Jade he immediately and uncomfortably identifies her as Polish, and his coldness towards her might just be xenophobia. -
Movies Is "Lawrence of Arabia" worth watching?
Moa replied to Spork3245's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
The only problem is the actual history is much wilder than the movie. -
Movies Beau is Afraid - Ari Aster’s 3 hour horror/comedy romp
Moa replied to TheLeon's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Legitimately, can anyone name a movie weirder than this thing was? I just got out of the theater, and have no intelligible thoughts. -
I agree but I'm not sure it's because they're bad at it. It's because they're chasing their father's ghost and the approval they will never receive. They basically don't have any lives independent of their father or any metric to measure success other than their father's approval. They didn't really want the company, they wanted Logan to think they were worthy of the company. There's also something really sad about Kendall that I can't quite put my finger on. Everything he does and wants seems to be so childlike. He had a treehouse at his 40th birthday party, he really wanted the clouds for the presentation, he just seems like a man desperately chasing after his childhood who's constantly disappointed by the impossibility of his dream. I think part of the reason he's such a shitty absent father is because in his mind he's still Logan's son rather than his own person who is responsible for more than just his own emotional well-being.

I agree about the exec and Gerri but I interpret the scene at the end differently. I don't think Roman is upset with Kendall for the clip. In their relationship, stuff like that is a greeting card. I think Roman is grieving hard, spiraling out of control, and was overcome by emotion at seeing his dad say something that he actually would say. I also like how many times Gerri has simply un-fired herself.

Just finished it. I find it believable that the actor who played Isaac is a piece of shit since he played one so convincingly in the show. Full spoilers.

I kind of hate how much internet analysts have latched onto the “serious people” line. The Roy kids never had a chance with a father who just wants them to dance and kiss the ring. All of Logan’s offers to his kids have been in bad faith and calculated to maximally humiliate them when he finally reneges. Matsson isn’t serious when all he does is insist on haste while demanding to renegotiate just at the finish line. Everyone in this show is just fucking around yet somehow the kids are the only ones accused of not being serious. The whole thing is a dick measuring contest where the first person who pulls out their dick gets made fun of for actually wanting to measure dicks.

These last few episodes have been great. The Amsterdam episode is probably my favorite in the show, although the "did we" scene was weird kind of regardless of what the ultimate meaning was. Everything else about that episode was just as magical as it was supposed to be. -

General Entertainment Separating the art from the artist
Moa replied to Fizzzzle's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
This is 100% correct. The concept of separating the art from the artist, has everything to do with artistic criticism and nothing to do with the political complexities of supporting problematic people. Rosemary's Baby isn't a bad movie because Polanski's a rapist. Harry Potter isn't a bad series of books because Rowling's a TERF. Hitler's art is bad, but not because he's a nazi. That's it. Separating the art from the artist has nothing to do with whether or not you should stream Rosemary's Baby on Prime or buy the new Harry Potter game. That's a different, albeit valuable conversation, that has nothing to do with the quality of the art in question. -
I do think the whole thing begs a pretty important question about game design. A well-designed game should be most fun when played most optimally. If playing the game on the cutting edge is a worse experience than playing at a middling level, the game's design is flawed. That said, I can think of very few games that actually live up to this standard, and I wish designers put more effort into designing systems where the fun can't be min-maxed out. The recent DOOM games are the only example I can think of where truly the better I got and the harder the game became the more fun I had until my wrists fell off from frantic weapon swapping. I like that Blizzard is at least trying with Diablo 4. I think the benefits of not having a map overlay probably outweigh the costs, but not including QOL features to try to enhance immersion seems like a pretty inelegant way to force players to have fun.

Overcooked really brings out the worst in me. I can play Dota and still act like a human being, but Overcooked makes me see red.

Looks cool but I'm not sure about the True Detective branding. This doesn't appear to have been written by Pizzolatto, which makes me pretty skeptical. Season 2 was interesting and probably could have been really good if it was a little more coherent or had a little more to say about incoherence. Season 3 was good but ultimately was just chasing Season 1's tail. And, Season 1 is of course one of the best shows ever made.

It's going to be interesting to see how the kids act now that they're finally out from under Logan's heel. Their entire lives orbited around Logan, and I have a feeling they're going to be completely unmoored by his absence. I have a feeling they’re mostly going to keep dancing for his ghost but we also might see some previously suppressed desires and behaviors emerge in them.

The Harry Potter movies were perfectly cast and it’s going to be hard to come up with something that doesn’t feel like a cheap knock off of the original actors. Buuuuuut, the Harry Potter movies also sucked ass and the story could’ve been told much better. Inb4 the internet literally lights on fire when black Hermione happens.
